WIW : Grey Wrap

Hi Ladies,

A sunny winters day today, Spring is coming!

Today for church I wore the following:

Monki Cocoon Dress in black
Rubi Knit Grey Wrap
Target OTK flat boots
Mushu Coral Clutch

To be honest, I am not quite sure where this wrap fits in my 5 Piece French Wardrobe lol.  But let's worry about that later ;)  I recall last year about this time I purchased a black knit cocoon cardigan just as a refresher piece for the final weeks of winter.  I think this wrap was that kind of purchase.  A little something new to keep me motivated so to speak.

I loved the grey tone and the chunky knit.  Despite how it appears, it's not quite as heavy as it looks and will probably transition nicely into early Spring and then resurface again next Autumn:)

For a pop of colour I carried my coral clutch (it's first outing having bought it months ago). It'a a great size for a clutch and I can fit keys, phone, glasses, purse, etc.

Thanks for looking and hope everyone is having a fab weekend.

P.s. looking a bit stern in these photos!  I was under pressure to be making lunch for my hungry boys ;)

WIW : (New) Motto Draped Jacket ;)

Hi Fabbers,

Now that Motto has come to my town I am going to have to exercise a great deal of self control lol.  They share a very similar aesthetic to Metalicus.  Great washable fabrics, drape, comfort and everything goes with everything.  Thankfully, they do a lot of pattern which makes it easier for me to resist.

This jacket came into my closet recently and two similar, but not quite perfect ones exited.

I wore this to work today.  I only had to go in for a couple of hours to a meeting, and was meeting a friend for coffee first, so I wanted smart but comfy and didn't feel the need for a 'blazer'.  Our weather is warming slowly.  15 degrees today but quite mild so wore pumps and not stockings wohoo!

The jacket can be worn open or fastened at one or both shoulders.  I have worn it fastened on one shoulder with a peek of a white top underneath.  I am really enjoying the ladylike but still edgy vibe of the sharp pointed toe pumps and think I may need to add another pointed toe pump to my spring / summer wardrobe... hmm but what colour?

Thanks for looking.  And I want to say thank you for always being so kind and encouraging. I know I kind of wear the same thing all the time, and wear a very limited colour palette which possibly seems a bit "samey" every WIW.  I really appreciate that you 'get me'.

WIW : To A Wedding

Hi Ladies,

I posted about what to wear to this wedding about a month ago and really appreciated your input.  But of course, I changed my mind about what I would wear last night lol.

I really shouldn't think about it until 24 hours before because I really never know what I will 'feel' like wearing!

Quick snap and flash went off so sorry not a great photo.

At the last minute (almost) I decided I wanted to wear my Metalicus Plaza Drape Dress.  This dress is amazing and seriously it can go anywhere.  It has short sleeves and we are still in the throes of winter so I wore my navy Metalicus Chios Washed Jacket.  Black sheer hose, Wittner pumps and Green Clutch.  Accessorized with silver.

There was no dress code on the invitation, and I was probably a little more 'smartly' dressed than the majority (Aussies can be quite casual) but that was ok and I felt great.

I am really grateful to Angie and YLF as weddings used to cause me quite a bit of stress and now I simply shop my closet and feel confident ... wohoo.

Side note:  I am glad I didn't go with the black Laura Ashley Dress as it really would have been a little 'dramatic'/ OTT for the event:)

Thanks for looking.

WIW : Culottes & Tall Boots

Hi Ladies,

I am SO SICK of wearing leggings and skinny ponte pants lol.  I never thought I would say it, but I am:)  Spring please come soon!

Still cold here but I really needed a change so out came the culottes.

I am still working on what toppers work best for me with culottes, generally they need to be short-ish and not oversized which means I have had to keep a eye out for a couple as I don't have much that fits the bill.

Today I started with the culottes, added wedge heel, tall suede boots, a short sweater, semi tucked and a thin belt with silver hardware.  I really liked this and feel it's indicative of a shift to a more minimal look.  it may get repeated for work and/or church this coming week.

The sweater is from Motto http://www.motto.com.au/on-sal.....71_1001273 and is textured.  It is longer than my Metalicus sweater which is a truer 'cropped' cut.  I can see I may have to split my loyalty between Metalicus and Motto lol:)

What do you think?  I know the culottes are not a traditionally flattering look, but I am really do love them and would like to develop more pairings for them.

Thanks for looking.

WIW : Classic Edge!

Hi Ladies,

Here's the back story which you can feel free to skip:)

My mother gave me this gorgeous Laura Ashley cardigan. Despite not having been a 'classic' dresser for quite some time, she still tends to buy me classic pieces when she gives me clothing. Now I love everything Chanel and when I saw the cardigan I did love it, with it's jacket cut and Chanel style detail, but had no idea what to do with it. Pairing with classic items just creates a frumpy look on me. So it's been hanging in my closet most of winter until last night when I had some time to really consider how I might wear it.

I knew I would wear skinny black bottoms but it was the top that was challenging me. If not for YLF, I wouldn't have thought to consider what I wouldn't ordinarily pair with it as an option. I tried a silky front abstract patterned tshirt, which I liked a lot but not for the office, so at the last minute this morning I grabbed my Metalicus tunic and tried it with that and really liked the end result.

My photos were taken after work so lighting is poor, sorry. And I am 4 days off a haircut and my hair is so 'boofy" lol.

What do you think? I do love the cardigan and I am hoping this works. My aim was to edge up the classic piece.

Thanks for looking and for your thoughts.

WIW : Cocoon Jacket

Hi Ladies,

Thanks so much for your thoughts regarding this jacket yesterday:)
I did review it carefully and believe the size is correct and I really like how it looks... so tags off and I wore it today.

I know it looks like a heavy jacket but it isn't. It is quite lightweight and unlined. It is cool today, 9 degrees and with the shirt (and cami under the shirt) and a scarf I was warm enough. However I think it will work just as well with a sleeveless top and less layers and be quite comfy on a warmer day.

For those who asked how much wear I would get out this, I imagine I will wear it from now until high summer, and then again in Autumn to early winter before it gets really cold, so I feel happy that it's enough wear to justify being one of 5 :) And I work in aircon so I often need a jacket in the warm months.

Thanks for looking and for all your advice re the jacket. I wonder if it looks better to those who weren't sure, now that is pressed and styled?

Item One - Five Piece French Wardrobe!

Hi Ladies,

Some of you will know that I am attempting to embrace the concept of the Five Piece French Wardrobe.

http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....h-wardrobe

So!  Here is my first purchase.  Please  note, not styled but anticipate I will be wearing it with skinny leg pants and simple top (just not the ones I have on).

It's a cocoon shaped jacket, in light grey. Warm enough to wear now with warm layers underneath and then perfect for Spring with lighter under layer.  It does need a press:)

I don't have anything similar to this and I am wanting to add soft grey into my wardrobe.  The idea with this is to add just  5 new (on trend/statement/special) items each season and I feel this meets the criteria.

Appreciate you taking a look and letting me know what you think.

Thanks so much

WIW : Casual Black and White

Hi Ladies,

Day off today.  Lunch with DH and then a visit to a school we are considering for Master 12 for next year.

I think this outfit is very much indicative of what I am thinking at the moment re my style, and where I think I may be headed.  I seem to be yearning for more simplicity:)

I think I will repeat this tomorrow (fresh shirt) for the drive to Melbourne to attend a birthday function tomorrow night.  Just sorting out what to wear tomorrow night, I think it will be casual so I am thinking skinny pants and my Motto moto!

Thanks for looking:)

WIW : Blue, Striped, Belted

Hello Ladies!

Last weekend when my sister visited, we both had a bag of clothing for each other (we tend to give each other first option on items we are ready to move on, or items that we bought that didn't work ).  I took two draped cardigans, and a fantastic sleeveless jacket (brand new that she hasn't worn) from her 'pile' and and she had two lovely (almost new) handbags for me:)

I was unsure of this grey and cobalt striped cardigan but grabbed it thinking if nothing else it would be nice over leggings for around the house.  I had coffee with girlfriends and a meeting at school today and didn't feel like all black so I had a play and this is what I came up with.

I will show you the pics from completed outfit back.

#1 - #4
The cardigan seemed too long and a bit drab worn as is in #4, so I put an obi belt around it and pulled one side up creating an uneven hemline and had the fabric from that side fold over half of the belt.  Then for going out, I put my Motto Moto over the lot :)

I have to say that I feel that I still need to trim down a bit more before I would consider regular belted outfits but I hope this is passable.

This is the version I wore out today.  My girlfriends love it and wanted to know how the outfit 'worked' :)

#5
Motto Jacket layered over the open cardigan which I thought was another option?  What do you think?  Too long and overwhelming?

This is a bit of an outfit lab!  What do you think of the cardigan.  Should I keep?  If the draping and belting JFE??

Thanks so much for looking and letting me know what you think.
