WIW : Blue, Striped, Belted

Hello Ladies!

Last weekend when my sister visited, we both had a bag of clothing for each other (we tend to give each other first option on items we are ready to move on, or items that we bought that didn't work ).  I took two draped cardigans, and a fantastic sleeveless jacket (brand new that she hasn't worn) from her 'pile' and and she had two lovely (almost new) handbags for me:)

I was unsure of this grey and cobalt striped cardigan but grabbed it thinking if nothing else it would be nice over leggings for around the house.  I had coffee with girlfriends and a meeting at school today and didn't feel like all black so I had a play and this is what I came up with.

I will show you the pics from completed outfit back.

#1 - #4
The cardigan seemed too long and a bit drab worn as is in #4, so I put an obi belt around it and pulled one side up creating an uneven hemline and had the fabric from that side fold over half of the belt.  Then for going out, I put my Motto Moto over the lot :)

I have to say that I feel that I still need to trim down a bit more before I would consider regular belted outfits but I hope this is passable.

This is the version I wore out today.  My girlfriends love it and wanted to know how the outfit 'worked' :)

#5
Motto Jacket layered over the open cardigan which I thought was another option?  What do you think?  Too long and overwhelming?

This is a bit of an outfit lab!  What do you think of the cardigan.  Should I keep?  If the draping and belting JFE??

Thanks so much for looking and letting me know what you think.

xxx Deborah

Wow! That is gorgeous on you, Deb!

You are super creative to think of putting that belt and pulling on just one side to create asymmetry!!! Where do you come up with such fab ideas, woman! You have me in awe....

This look is stunning, vibrant and works beautifully for your colouring. You are killer in cobalt and black with your bold red lip! I'm sure you turned many heads today!

An excellent outfit lab and a 110% success, for sure!

I think 1-4 work brilliantly and I do not think you need to fear the belt.

I am not so keen on 5, I think this is a little overwhelming.  Without the jacket I love the cardigan open though.

    What a great swapping scheme.

  • ananthimathur replied 8 years ago

Personally I loved the 1-4 looks amazing!!! Not too enthused about 5!

Wow! You have a real knack with pieces that are unusual to begin with and turn them into 'your' unique look. So, so fab! I love 1-4. I do find 5 a little overwhelming, but you should definitely repeat all other iterations.

Wow it look gorgeouse,,i like the outfit

Wow! Love the colour and style of that cardigan on you, and it looks great with the belt! Such a great idea!

  • Cococat replied 8 years ago

I really like it! It looks great with the Obi belt, but my favourite is the last pic....not just because of MM either...there is something very avant garde about that look.

Your instinct is perfect Deborah.  #4 is fab and inventive.  I love it with the belt and initially thought the belt was wide on one side so it fooled this eye.  The color is lovely and you have done a great job styling it.  Sadly, I think it is overwhelming the moto in #5 but it is definitely a keeper.

I would never have thought you were trying to lose weight because you look so perfectly proportioned in all of your WIW.

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

Thanks Cheryle!  I have actually lost 9 kg since January but would still like to drop a weeny bit more:)

  • Lucy replied 8 years ago

Absolutely gorgeous ! I love it belted - it's not a look you should avoid at all! The colour is fabulous on you, so flattering. And as always I love your creative layering ... YLF.

I LOVE the way you wrapped an obi belt around the piece in #2 and #3. You wear that beautifully RIGHT NOW.

FWIW, I do find it too long othwewise, Debs. And prefer the piece un-layered and belted. May I suggest a longer black topper if you're cold. Less chopped up that way.

I love all the bright blue that has entered your wardrobe. VERY nice refresh.

I love the creative way your belted the cardigan and how it shortened it up.  Great thinking!

  • viva replied 8 years ago

I love it most belted and without the jacket, so you can really see the lovely belt and your lovely waist. The color is beautiful on you!

  • Elly replied 8 years ago

Oh-- that is gorgeous. I love it with and without the belt.

  • Carole replied 8 years ago

What a great piece..I like it best belted and on its own.

  • Laurie replied 8 years ago

You must wear this color more.  You simply must.

And what everyone else said about everything else.  I also like it belted the best.

  • replied 8 years ago

I agree with Angie here - I quite like it belted.  Worn on it's own though, and layered?  I just see too much length and fabric overwhelming you.  Nice belt too :)

  • Staysfit replied 8 years ago

The color looks gorgeous on you! It's a bit long, and I agree with your assessment somewhat, but it's easy to overlook all flaws because the color is stunning so it just looks amazing on you.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 8 years ago

That cobalt blue is just magical with your coloring Deb - so gorgeous. The belting with the obi belt is incredibly clever and really helps to reign in the cardigan. I like it best in pic#1. I'm afraid I do find the cardigan too long on its own.

  • calmwave replied 8 years ago

    Sensational of you!  Wow!

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

I love this piece in 2-3. The color is spectacular on you.

  • deb replied 8 years ago

OMG, I do not know how I missed this post but this outfit is the best!!! Well, done and thank goodness for sister who share.

  • Brooklyn replied 8 years ago

I love the colour on you and the belt is fab on you. I like 1 to 4. For No 5 I like the idea but I think there may be too much volume as you say.

  • Peri replied 8 years ago

Holy cow! How did you think of that??? You are so amazingly creative! I would never have thought of that ever, and I really love it the way you have it in 2 & 3. You've made it look like a dress. Amazing!

  • MsMaven replied 8 years ago

More than just "passable." This is great on you and such a gorgeous color of blue as well.

  • Lyn D. replied 8 years ago

I love it with the belt Deborah- it reigns-in the extra length in a dramatic way

  • celia replied 8 years ago

I really love it belted, otherwise I feel it is a bit long.
I have mixed feelings when you add the jacket on top, I have a feeling that it might work better or worse according to the angle from where we are seing the outfit.

  • Caro in Oz replied 8 years ago

#2 & #3 look good imo but I'm nodding along with the others about the jacket & the volume/ length when unbelted.

  • christy replied 8 years ago

Again with the cobalt! SUCH a gorgeous color on you. I love it as you've styled it in #1-3 and I also love the drama in #4. #5 isn't my favorite - too much going on and overwhelms you IMO.

  • Jaime replied 8 years ago

#2 and 3 are terrific. Blue looks great on you!

  • shedev replied 8 years ago

It looks great belted. It seems really long unbelted but maybe a little more heel would help lengthen the lower leg.

  • replied 8 years ago

Another stunningly dramatic look from you, Deborah! As others have said, you're so inventive. I like the looks in pics 1-4, I agree that the belting is fantastic with this item. It's a keeper for sure!

  • Meow replied 8 years ago

So on trend with the wide Obi Belt! Deb - you must be clasisified as a "winter" in your colour analysis? You look great in the black and bright colors.

  • CocoLion replied 8 years ago

I love what you did.  You are so resourceful!  The last styling is quite dramatic, and I like it.  How did it move?  The belted look is more approachable and conventionally flattering.  The last outfit looks like something that would look great at an art opening.

And fear not, you look amazing with waist definition RIGHT NOW, as you are!  It actually surprises me that you would think this way.  Although I understand the desire for a slim midsection, I chase that dream as well, harder and harder to achieve as the years add up.

  • lyn67 replied 8 years ago

My god! Can it be more creative that that!! The belted version is something I have seen it first on You only, and LOVE, but I don't really like it with the short jacket layered on...Maybe you can wear it on it's own, and layer only for driving  the car, or so?  Agree the last look is a bit owerhelming you:-(.
