Summer Dresses

Unfortunately I missed out in the Metalicus dress I was planning to buy, but I decided it wasn't meant, and the fact that I hesitated to push the buy button when I had the chance suggests it was probably for the best.

But I have discovered a new brand called Layer'd and have ordered this dress (#1) tonight. The colour is described as pewter and looks a gorgeous tone. The look is a little complexgeometries but a little cheaper and no outrageous shipping g costs:)

Fingers crossed:)

WIW : A Day of Eating;)

Hi Ladies,

Friday here and my weekend has started. Met a girlfriend for breakfast, met DH for lunch and then MIL for a cuppa...it will be a very small dinner for me tonight;)

I have been struggling to get this top (and another in light grey) into regular rotation. But last night I had a bit of an epiphany. The top is a jersey and if I layer say a jersey tank underneath it catches on the fabric under it and doesn't drape at the back. Realised that I need a silky top underneath so the jersey just flows over it, not sure why it took me that long to work it out?:)

So black cross over drape top worn over a white silky tank, and black jeggings and OTK boots. Wore my new silver earrings and a silver cuff, wedding rings and silver mesh ring.

I am happy with this and pleased I have worked out how to make the top work comfortably. You will probably be seeing the grey one soon;)

Styling ideas and thoughts always much appreciated.

WIW : For the Seniors

Hi Ladies,

Today I was guest speaker at a group that is predominantly made up of very senior aged people. I knew it would be a pretty conservative environment and wanted to make sure I dressed appropriately and with respect for the group.

So I went with my Metalicus drape dress, which I felt till conveyed "me" and added a more conservative blazer, in grey to lighten the outfit.

I must admit I have an association with public presentations and blazers (as in I always wear a blazer) But upon arrival I was pleased with my choice as the ladies were very smartly dressed (and dressed up) and many of the men were in suit and tie:). It was actually quite lovely to see.

I was going to wear my black boyfriend blazer but I asked DH what he thought and he suggested that if they were filming (they were) or taking photos I might look like I was wrapped in a black cocoon! Now I thought that was quite cool, but decided adding something lighter would be a good idea and hence the grey blazer:).

And on another note, it seems we are entering that time of year I always forget I love (stylewise). It's this season where I can wear tights/leggings and booties with a sleeveless (short sleeve) dress or tunic. Blazer gets worn to work and due it the morning but comes off for the afternoon:). Wohoo.

So what do you think, did the outfit work? In your opinion does it tick the boxes for appropriateness for the event?

And while I wasn't specifically adjusting my style for loved ones... I kind if was:).

Thanks for looking:)

WIW: Ensemble Variation

The vest with sleeveless top is a favourite ensemble of mine but as we are still in our cooler months I am wearing it with a long sleeve top.

I am in that transitioning seasons funk where I seem to loose all clarity and am spending way too much time fussing in the morning. Not sure how to avoid it.

Wearing new boots, slouchy pants, abstract patterned high low top (semi tucked) and vest.

How does this work to your eye? I like the way the vest takes my hips captive and provides some structure.

Comments, critiques, suggestions all welcome.

WIW: Animal!

Hi Fabbers,

As far as patterns go, I still quite like animal print and that's about all I have now in the way of pattern in my wardrobe.

It's has been too cold for this tunic but I got it out today to wear and see how I feel about it. It's about three years old but I think it's still ok. It's a nice piece to layer with and for when I don't feel like solid black.

Layered it under my grey drape vest "thing". I think it worked.

What do you think? Does the tunic still work for me?

Thanks for taking a look.

WIW : Out of Chaos!

Happy Sunday Fab Ones!

For the first time in a long time, this morning was chaos! I hadn't planned my outfit but often find I no longer need to. What struck me as particularly funny was that the there was a mound of black clothing on my bed when I left the house and of course I was wearing black... seriously... how could it be that hard lol

I was doing the welcome and announcements at Church this morning. I wouldn't say I get nervous, but I do take it very seriously. I count it a privilege to be asked to do these things and have a very strong sense of doing it properly. So I was extremely well prepared but hadn't thought about what to wear on the platform 'duh'.

You have seen the dress before, but I often change around the toppers (and I realise it probably doesn't look that different to last time despite that, but that is how variety works for me).

This is my Metalicus Plaza Drape Dress topped with a Portmans long tail jersey cardigan, opaque tights and my new boots, which made me feel very tall and they are super comfortable.

This worked well and I felt good. We have large screens in the church and I felt the outfit was sleek and not distracting when looking at it on the screen. But I think I will be back for advice. I am speaking this Thursday to a local church group and in a month I am preaching at two church services... and after this morning I will most certainly be planning what I will wear.

I feel I have eliminated the stress of day to day dressing, even event dressing but these church things still stress me out a bit :)

Thanks for looking, and reading. Suggestions, critiques, etc always wonderful to hear.

PS... #4 new earrings I ordered on line. Sterling silver to replace a pair a little similar that I lost. I am applying the one in, one out policy to accessories as well. These arrived and two other pairs are out :)

K/R Black Ankle boots

Hi Fabbers,

As per an earlier real time post today, I bought these boots while out grocery shopping with DH. They are a little reminiscent of the Acne Pistol Boots which I have always quietly coveted:)

So here they are for your consideration.

In the earlier post (where I wasn't wearing them), Shannon asked it if I needed them, Anna mentioned that her Pistols hug her ankle and Gigi pointed out that the round toe can be quite stumpifying...all really excellent points to consider.

So, they are more of a want than a need, however I wear my Hush Puppies Black ankle boots all the time. They have a wedge heel that is about 4 to 5 cm high, a round toe and I adore them. At Winters end I will be taking them to the shoe man for a "service". I have been wanting a second black ankle boot with a higher heel and a slightly different look. These have a heel of 7.5cm, are comfy and quite sleek but still a little more substantial than the HP's.

These don't quite hug my ankle, but I am ok with that. I have skinny ankles and don't mind some room as long as it is not too much. And I have included side shots to check out the length. What do you think?

I have photographed them with leggings as this is how I would frequently wear them. I may wear them with a bare leg and dress in Spring. Please excuse my legs! I forgot I had my leggings tucked into my sock hose because I have been wearing OTK boots today and it stops the legging pulling up when I put the boots on...took me a minute to work out what was going on with my legs in the pics lol.

I think I am keeping them, so please let me know if you think I shouldn't.

They also had the same boot in a camel tone *sigh* so tempted! but keep telling myself the colour is too warm for me;)

Thanks for your thoughts, and for taking a look.

Experimenting with Culottes

Hi Fabbers,

Some free time this afternoon, and I rescued my culottes from the donate bag:)  They were in the donate pile because they have been a little tight.  Well I tried them on and they are fitting better so I might just hang on to them until I can find a replacement.

I had an idea of what I want to put together not many of my tops work.  I tried it with the top in the pictures worn backwards and then with the front to the front.  I was attempting to style the culottes for Spring.  I might need to look for a top that works better but generally what do you think of the proportions here?

#1 High low top with low worn to the back. &
Low hem worn to the front (this is actually the front of the top)

The pants are still a firm fit across my tummy and I think in movement they will be too firm in the area of one's lady bits!! That is why I think I need to replace these.

I am thinking I would like a jersey pair.

#2 Jersey culottes I am interested in from Asos (more budget friendly)
#3 Rick Owens pants that are not so budget friendly :)

Would love to know if you think this styling idea works, keeping in mind the items are not quite perfect.

Thanks for taking a look

WIW : An Old Fave

Happy Weekend Everyone:)

Well not so old but definitely a favourite. I am not sure why I haven't been wearing this draped cardigan this year. I wore it a lot last year and loved it!
Anyway, I was trying to avoid reaching for my cocoon cardigan "again" and popped this on. I immediately remembered why I bought it. Great drape, nice weight but still light (it has relatively sheer layers) and very easy to wear. I am so glad we have been reunited:)

Slow day today with a visit from my brother and sister in law in the morning and a coffee and catch up with a girlfriend this afternoon.

I felt like some "light" today, possibly because I am still getting over a head cold and I am feeling quite tired. All black never works as well if I am tired and looking it;).

Outfit is ponte leggings, new over the knee pull on boots (my second mid season refresher), cream tunic and black draped cardigan.

Thanks for looking! And in the wake of IK's recent thread, I am genuinely pleased to hear all constructive comments. I know my love of wearing black is not everyone's cup of tea but thoughts on proportions, layers etc are always well received. I'm a sponge! Lol. And thank you for your friendship and always being here to share with and for always having fun with fashion with me x
