WIW : A Day of Eating;)

Hi Ladies,

Friday here and my weekend has started. Met a girlfriend for breakfast, met DH for lunch and then MIL for a cuppa...it will be a very small dinner for me tonight;)

I have been struggling to get this top (and another in light grey) into regular rotation. But last night I had a bit of an epiphany. The top is a jersey and if I layer say a jersey tank underneath it catches on the fabric under it and doesn't drape at the back. Realised that I need a silky top underneath so the jersey just flows over it, not sure why it took me that long to work it out?:)

So black cross over drape top worn over a white silky tank, and black jeggings and OTK boots. Wore my new silver earrings and a silver cuff, wedding rings and silver mesh ring.

I am happy with this and pleased I have worked out how to make the top work comfortably. You will probably be seeing the grey one soon;)

Styling ideas and thoughts always much appreciated.

xxxDeborah

What an amazing top! And great save. i like the touch of white under. They have something very similar at AllSaints right now. Fortunately it looked terrible on me.

Hi Deborah! I like your idea of a silky top when you have a jersey jacket.  I will try that with my new Metallicus jacket for sure.

Having a great time in Melbourne, love the styles though haven't bought much because I am spending so much cash on meals out, wine, and transport.

Just got back from Koonwarra, where I saw just about all the animals I wanted to see on ONE bush walk!!! Didn't get to see a wombat, but I heard about Patrick the 29 year old virgin wombat!

I tucked into the new Emporium in the CBD twice already, have been to CHadstone with Imogen for a shop, been up and down Chapel and Acland Streets.  It's all fab but I really like Life With Bird and Seed.

Have a great weekend! We are going to the footy tomorrow and have a fancy dinner out tonight.  On Sunday we are going to the Vic market in town and then preparing a big family lunch for my friend's extended family.  I think Monday I will go see some more animals at the zoo or aquarium, or perhaps get in one more shop before I leave for home on Tuesday.

What a great epiphany, I love when it happens, and thanx for sharing  it with us, as it can happen to all! Love the white top's clever appearance here. I always struggle whith black and white (big blocked) outfits, but this topper is so clever. It is completely different from a common a black bottom and white top, or black suit with a white shell fromula, and I just love it. Taking notes:-).

I am not going to lie.  It has taken me a while of viewing your WIWs to adjust my eye to your style.  Once I adjusted my eye, I have come to love your style and look forward to seeing your WIWs.

Oh, and we are in exactly opposite weather climates.  That too has thrown me off a bit.

I said all that to tell you I love this outfit featured.

Haha. Snap, jumper twin! :) This looks great- really congruent with your style. Can't wait to see you in the grey.

Deborah - that's a really astute point on the material of layers.  Will be tucking it away for future reference.  Adore the OTK boots on you.  So elegant.  Love that cardi on you too, almost like a knit drapy cutaway.  I would think it would work with almost anything, skirts, dresses.  Have you tried it?  Kind of reminds me of a flowy Gibson riding jacket and that baby is one of the only jackets that looks good with everything all the time.  Just a thought!!

Una, money saved for something else:)

Karen, sorry I missed you but so glad you are enjoying your time here:)

Lyn, Thankyou! Some fabrics work better together for layering:)

Sterling, I really appreciate your comment. We are a diverse bunch here and I am flattered by your comment and love that you took the time to "get" my style. That's one of the things that makes the YLF ladies so special:)

Sharon, thanking you for inspiring me to get this top out and give it some attention.

Gryffin, yes I think the top will work over quite a few things as long as the fabrics work. I'm going to have fun trying out some combos:)

I love the shape of this top and the white under it highlights the shape. I know you will remix but the black and white combo is worth repeating!

Loving the cross-over top, glad you found a way for it to work.

  • Sara L. replied 9 years ago

Great top!  I'm glad you figured out how to make it work.  Also really like your boots.

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

A brilliant solution that is only obvious in retrospect!

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

K-word worthy. LOVE. Good job making that top work.

I like to think that the white component of your outfit is just for me. xo

  • claracluck replied 9 years ago

superb as ever totally fabulous.i'm adding a find inspired by your style IMHO.

  • Lyn D. replied 9 years ago

Yes, as Alana says, the white underneath allows us to see the great detail of that topper.
    Happy Weekend :)

  • Deborah replied 9 years ago

Thank you ladies and Angie, the white is all for you:). I always thought I was too big to wear white but you are the one who encouraged me to work that out:).

    Claracluck, LOVE that dress:)

  • Sarah A replied 9 years ago

Love your crossover top over the white silky blouse. Great layering concept. Am I seeing right your boots look suede in front and leather in back? I really like the interest that brings to the monochrome. Brilliant and inspiring :)

Looking good & a great save Deborah :)

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

Deborah, that is a valuable layering tip, especially with all the knits out there. I love the white with your black and can't wait to see the grey version of the jersey drape top. I think you would look amazing in a tonal outfit of grey and white for your spring/summer
