WIW : White Stripes!

Happy Weekend Fabbers,

We are enjoying a lovely sunny Saturday here in downtown Bendigo:)

Today was the first wearing of my black and white striped skirt.  This skirt is reminiscent of the one some or you lovely Fabbers have and this Aussie version was brought to my attention by Caro, who wore hers with such edge and cool, that I had to give it a try.  While I do like stripes, I generally don't feel they are reflective of my style so my mission was to see if I could edge up the striped skirt.

How did I do?

I have paired the skirt with a long, draped tee top and suede sandals.  Long tail cardigan was added for outdoors.

Love to know what you think:)

xxx Deborah

    Hi Deborah!
    Great day here too :)
I like this outfit the best without the long cardi.
You are getting lots of wear from those unusual suede sandals- I love their casual thrown-on vibe!

Deborah, I have admired your style from 'day one' and follow your posts. The striped skirt is a subtle tangent to your style, and a welcomed one. I imagine it would be nice for your summer season, and it adds some lightheartedness.

You do black to perfection, with hits of cobalt. Flawless! Plus we have seen other colours. Melon? I do not doubt that you could do an all white wardrobe in an equally fab/killer way but I have not witnessed you venture that way.

Throwing down the gauntlet, I challenge you to introduce some lightness into your wardrobe and pair this wonderful skirt with your cobalt and other colours and maybe pursue a little more white. I think you could do this in an impeccably flawless way, but it might be a challenge and a stretch outside your comfort zone?!

Thanks Lyn:) Yes I agree the look is lighter without the cardigan and I also prefer it.  The sandals are from Target and are a few years old, but every summer I really enjoy getting them out again.  They may be replaced soon tho as I am considering these as my Christmas present from DH )

You definitely edged up the striped skirt with your black pieces and sandals for a cool look.

This is a fab outfit and looks totally in tune with your style. But I won't hear you saying that stripes are not edgy. :) If Caro wears them, they are by definition cool. :)

Oooh, I like! I think this is a great outfit for summer - edgy but also cool. I bet the skirt is super comfy. Where did you get it from? Seeing you and Anna and  remembering the outfit Caro posted has given me skirt envy!

I really like this in theory - but, I wish that your top was just a bit shorter in the front - like the top that Anna is wearing (in her outfit that she linked to.)  I know, it's a miner detail, but to me a little shorter top would make the proportions a little more flattering (that is, give you a longer leg line.)  Also - love those sandals - but, because of the length of the skirt, I'd try a shoe with a lower vamp (again, to lengthen the leg line.)  However, regardless - mission accomplished on making it edgy!   And, of course you look great - I'm just being picky - because I consider you one of our "advanced stylists" I feel like I can be a little more picky.  ;-)

Carla, what a challenge!  I am keen to embrace more white, but the whole colour thing is tricky because... and Im going to say it (I think for the first time) I don't like colour .... *sigh* I have said it.  But you have me thinking now and I will see what I can come up with :)

Anna, yes I recall this outfit of yours now.  I do prefer your top to mine.  You proportions are perfect:)

Suz, no question.... Caro is super cool!

Sharon, the skirt is from Kmart.  I think it was all of $12.00 and it's an amazingly well made skirt and it a good decent fabric.

Marley I really appreciate your feedback and you may be as picky as you like.  I am a student of you wonderfully stylish women:)  Anna's top is much better... I wonder if she would like to send it to me (just kidding) and i will consider this next time I wear the skirt. I also agree re the high vamp, however that I did this on purpose :)  I decided to sacrifice the leg length because I find the look of the midi with the high vamp more interesting.  The good thing is the skirt has a thick flat waistband so I can fold it easily (and smoothly) and wear the skirt at different lengths.

Love this! Very different for you, but I think it fits in nicely. Love the choice of sandals - unexpected chic!

  • Debra replied 10 years ago

Love this look :) I have a skirt with thin stripes, but I really like the boldness of the wide stripes. Very edgy IMHO :)

PS love the new sandals, hope you've been good and Santa leaves them under your tree :)

  • Lantana replied 10 years ago

Love it so echoing the fabbers above but I am not keen on the black bag.
ETA I don't mean the bag itself, just the fact that it's black.

    I am loving these sandals!

I think your outfit looks fantastic. I especially love the drape of your shirt in the back! And echoing all the sandal love :)

You have really nailed a personal style that always seems fresh and non-repetitive. Not to mention how black NEVER gets boring with you. So crisp and fun. I love the shoes.

Oh I missed this, where was I? YLF.

Glad you bought the skirt & I love it on you. I've found the same thing Marley mentioned - a slightly shorter top works better for me too.

  • Lisa replied 10 years ago

Perfect mix of some color but still keeping your style here.  I think the bold stripe helps add to the edge factor because it is a very bold print.  And the drapey top is lovely paired with the slimmer fit bottom.  A nice outfit!

Plonk(for the longtail cardi...and all!)! Too much fabness for today. Angie&You, and haven't seen the others yet:-)

  • karymk replied 10 years ago

I see what Marley is seeing too.  You've got a 50-50 proportion going on.  If you either wore a shorter top, or pulled up or rolled up the knit skirt to make it knee length you might get a better proportion.  But otherwise it makes a cool addition to your blacks and largely knit wardrobe.

I agree with Joy, you nailed it Deborah! The sandals and tail on the top definitely add edge to it!! Looks cool, fun and comfy :)
