WIW : Shop Girl Style ;)

Hi Ladies,

As some of you know, skirted leggings were such a HEWI for me and now that I have a pair I will apologise in advance for wearing them all the time and for posting what will probably be way too many outfits featuring them :)

Today for work @ Motto :)

Skirted Leggings : Motto
Jersey Cha Cha Top : Motto
Open Toe Boots : Rubi
Silver Cuff :  Cannot remember
Silver drop earrings : Secret Santa from Karie xx

Very simple black on black outfit, the neckline of the top is kind of cool and made me think of the HL bra top, I don't  think it needs any further embellishment at the neck?  Hard to see but the top has an asymmetric hemline which follows the asymmetric line of the skirt.

I am actually feeling a little sensitive to all black the moment and have been wearing a lot of white with my black, not sure what it's all about??

Thanks for looking.  Your thoughts, suggestions etc all much appreciated.

xxx Deborah

You look super chic in this outfit, Deborah. I wouldn't feel self-conscious about all-black, as you look stunning in it. It is curious though, isn't it? I wonder why the change in your feeling about it.

  • Adelfa replied 8 years ago

You do look wonderful. The neckline detailing and the toes break up the black!

Beautiful outfit Deborah. I must admit, the skirted leggings didn't appeal when I saw them on the Motto website, but now that I've seen them on you, I really like them. I think I will get a pair when Winter comes around again. Do you think they will be available year round, or should I get them now and put them away?

Love! Awesome shop girl work because this makes me want to buy the top AND the leggings :)

  • rute replied 8 years ago

you look AMAZING and that red lip is perfect!

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 8 years ago

Back to black too I see.  :)  This is a great example of layering done right and adding visual interest to an all-black outfit.  Very inspiring Deborah.

Thanks so much ladies! As much as I love Motto, the challenge (and fun) is in making it mine. I don't want to simply copy their catalogue stylings, I want to bring my own "flavour" to the outfits:).

Coco, if it works for your budget I would say buy them now. They sold out and they have restocked but I don't know about next year. I can find out tho if they are a staple in their range. They have quite a few versions of the skirted leggings this season but these would be the most pure of the designs:). I'm quite excited as I am spending two days in Melbourne next week with Faye Browne the designer and the team learning all about Motto!

Lol Lucy, I can only encourage you !!

Deborah, you look fab as always : ) Your visit to Melbourne will be really exciting - I hope you can give us some of the highlights when you get back!

Deborah - Congrats on the new job!!  I am sure you will be brilliant but I don't want to think about all the temptation!!  Well dear girl, welcome to the dark side of skirted leggings.  I wear mine at least twice a week, and have them on today, and I could literally wear them every day.  I am squirrelling quite a stockpile.  Two in rotation (one in hard use, the other for dressier wear) and three in the duplicate holding zone and I'll probably add a 4th (since I can't live without them now).  Thank heavens Nordstrom has them on the replenishment plan but, as you said, you don't know how long this windfall will last.  Chic, easy, endlessly versatile - enjoy them.  BTW, look marvelous with the top and booties!!

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

Thanks Helen, I would be thrilled to share.  I adore Faye Browne's style she has a very cool edge:)

Gryffin thank you!  I am seriously considering another pair of the skirted leggings.  I get quite a generous staff discount so it wouldn't be too much on the budget.  Like you, now that I have them I am not sure I could be without them.  Hmm now lets talk about temptation lol.  Of course I have had to buy a few things so I have a little capsule for work but I can't see it stopping there ha ha.  Today I came home with a new skirt (#1)!!!  I am seriously considering selling off a few things in my closet as I can see myself 'replacing' some staple type items with the Motto versions now.

Total 11/10 from me. It's too bad you're not "feeling" the black, because you look absolutely stunning here.

And I'm seriously thinking about getting you to send me a pair of those leggings... I love my EF ones, and I think I like these even more!  They seem slightly longer, and asymmetry always tugs at my heartstrings.

  • replied 8 years ago

If I had those skirted leggings and that top, I'd be wearing them every day too.  That top is perfect as is, and any accessories around the neck (including large earrings) would only detract.    I'd love to work with you as a style guide if I ever were in your shop!

    Lisa... Road trip?

  • dakotacheryl replied 8 years ago

Deb, I have been so busy with work and traveling (combined with poor sleep habits due to hot flashes), that I haven't spent my usual amount of time reading and posting here at YLF.

I totally missed your posts about the new job!!!!  How exciting and fun and so perfect for you. And they are so LUCKY to have you on their team at Motto.

Love this look, and those fantastic boots!!  And I agree with you on not wearing a necklace when the top has a neckline detail...I usually reserve my "statement" earrings for my no-necklace days.

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

Ooh Lisa and Elizabeth a road trip indeed! Shopping with you both would be too much fun:). My offer stands if you decide you want a pair xxx

  • replied 8 years ago

Stunning, Deborah. I love the neckline on the top and agree that accessories would only detract. I know what you mean about black--I'm not loving my black items like I used to either--but in this case I think the low scoop and drape detail of the outfit are best in black given their dramatic standout factor. I covet those leggings too. Like Elizabeth, I like my EFs, but they are short (I even sized up to get more length), but yours are perfect. So .... when is Motto opening in the US? ;)

  • Jenn replied 8 years ago

Ooh, that does look a lot like the HL bra top. I agree you don't need any more embellishment at the neck. The lines of this outfit speak for themselves.

I wonder if maybe your discomfort with all black has to do with the season change, rather than a style shift. It seems like there's always an impulse to lighten up for the summer and revert to darker colors in the winter.

  • replied 8 years ago

I love the neckline of this. It is so pretty.
I find wearing black in the spring a bit odd because you still have to wear a lot of fabric, and that much black feels odd with the spring lighting conditions.
In the summer, because you're showing more skin, going back to black feels ok.
    That's my take anyway ;-)

  • Carole replied 8 years ago

Seriously want a pair of your skirted leggings! Every outfit you out together looks fantastic..including this one!

  • shedev replied 8 years ago

Love the layers. They add a lot of interest.

  • rachylou replied 8 years ago

You look great! You're keeping shop?

  • Beth Ann replied 8 years ago

Love the detail in the top, Deborah.  It's open, face framing quality is lovely.  It's rare to find an open neck that isn't gaping and low!

Glad you're enjoying your new job!

  • kerlyn replied 8 years ago

You look fantastic!  I agree, no embellishment needed with that lovely neckline.  Just great earrings!

  • replied 8 years ago

I absolutely want a pair of these leggings!!  What would it cost to ship to Canada?  And shopping would be fun indeed, although I'm a bit adhd when shopping and totally lose focus and interest rather quickly :) More than a road trip- it would be an intercontinental adventure!

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

Lisa $AU25.00 flat shipping rate for overseas:)

  • Lyn D. replied 8 years ago

You are looking fantastic Deborah, and I like it that we have an inside adviser for Motto now :)

  • Aida replied 8 years ago

Lovely outfit Deborah. Minimal yet dramatic lines. I was thinking similarly to Smittie. Is this a little less texture than you usually incorporate with your black? Over winter you can go crazy with texture and in summer you can show skin. Perhaps something of those qualities feel missing.

  • gryffin replied 8 years ago

Deborah - is the quality of Motto better than your other pieces?  or is it their ability to take that basic and make is special? that is making you want to replace?  Love the new skirt and I can see it working brilliantly in your wardrobe!  Glad you get a great staff discount because it must be like being a chocoholic at godiva!!

  • Brooklyn replied 8 years ago

You look great Deborah. Love the neckline and agree no further embellishment is required. I tend to agree with smittie and Aida about black in spring. But it will feel right again come summer!

  • Peri replied 8 years ago

I really like these, and I have never been tempted by any other pair. It seems they are a bit longer than the EF ones that hit the board a while back. True? They look more like an actual skirt.

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

Gryffin quality is excellent! As good as Metalicus but their pricing is better:). Yes it's really my essentials that I am talking about because Motto produce the same kind of items as Metalicus and it seems silly to replicate but I need the Motto versions for work...and ofcourse they translate perfectly into my 'regular' life xx

  • Jaime replied 8 years ago

First time I have really seen the advantage of these skirted leggings. I hope Motto uses you in their advertising campaign!

  • Cococat replied 8 years ago

Thanks Deborah. I'll order a pair next payday. I also like the split cropped pants and might have to put them on my list for the pay after.
