WIW : Summer Culottes

Ingunn asked about culottes and if they have staying power in her recent post, which reminded me that I need to be wearing mine more because i really to enjoy wearing them.

These ones were actually wide leg regular length pants which I had stopped wearing, so last year I had my dressmaker shorten them for me. They are drapey and swishy and I love the fabric and how they move when I move :)

I don't however always find it easy to put the right top with them.  Usually I go for a hi low hemmed topper, but today I felt like a little volume on volume so wore a long tunic.

Side Split Tunic : Metalicus
Cullottes : Suzanne Grae
Shoes : Isabella

I felt good, but do wonder about the proportions.  What do you think, is the tunic too much or does it work to your eye?

Thanks for looking:)

xxx Deborah

I think it works! Although it has more of an arty vibe to it than your usual look. Makes me think of my arts and crafts teacher in school who designed and made her own clothes...

I love this look on you Deborah! I have the same top and I wear it with boot cut jeans/pants and wide leg pants. I don't have culottes but I think the silhouette is similar. Works well for our hot climate. Like your accessories too :)

I find it very elegant on you, and the proportions work and are not overwhelming.

Great idea to shorten the trousers into culottes!

I also like the necklace very much.

The necklace puts a beautiful finishing touch on the outfit. I think the proportions look good. Good idea turning the not-being-worn pants into culottes!

Wow, I love your culottes with that tunic vest!

I like it too :) I don't think I could wear this look, but it's great on you. Is it the hi-Lo hem on the tunic that works so well?

I love your tunic! I love your necklace--and especially how it works with the neckline on the tunic--and I think your culottes are fab! The look works, but since you mention proportions: I wonder how it might also look with a longer necklace, scarf or some other item to bring a vertical line into the look? Or perhaps a more pointed toe or higher heel? I feel awkward being the spanner here, and of course static photos can be so off as there's no sense of movement. It's a lovely look that definitely achieves your volume on volume intent, so this is just a minor suggestion.

Helen, yes the tunic is shorter at the front!

Aliona, never felt bad:). I actually thought a scarf would have been better but I had already left for work! And normally I would go with a pointed toe but these shoes are new and were bought with a gift voucher (for my bday in June) and I really must start wearing them;)

I do like those shoes, Deborah! The lines are lovely and they have the added bonus of looking SO comfy. As an aside, here's a question about your job at Motto: if you get to work and want to switch up what you're wearing, are you able to accessorise with jewellery or other non-clothing items while you're in the store? A couple of the boutiques near me allow this and it's so helpful to an accessory challenged person like me to see the SAs modeling items--I often purchase jewellery that I'd never have noticed or picked up from the case.

Aliona, yes! We have to wear all Motto clothing of course but we can wear our own accessories. Having said that Motto have a small range of jewellery, scarves and belts too. The two belts they do are signature pieces and I will buy one soon (#1). The jewellery is a little pricey but lovely. What I'm finding fun is styling there prices my way:). I'm not sure if we can pop items (accessories) on that we haven't bought but I suspect we can ... I must ask.

Ooooh! I love that belt. It is so you! Can't wait to see how you style it.

I love the jumpsuit effect of the top and bottom. Nice necklace too, Debs.

I quite like this culotte look, and the proportions of the top-over-bottom look good to my eye. The only thing I'd change would be  the shoes - to something without an ankle strap.  It's drawing my eye to the area between the hem of the culotte and the top of the ankle, and adding another horizontal line on the leg.....
