WIW : Karate Grading & Hair Advice

Hi Fabbers

Master 11 had his first Karate grading this morning.  He started doing Karate about 4 months ago and today achieved his yellow belt.  He is one proud little man.

I hadn't really thought about what to wear and our weather demonstrated why it is wise to keep all seasons in my closet all year round.  It was cold!
Not my greatest work, but out came the black skinny jeans, open toe boots, Metalicus top and Metalicus jacket (new) worn with silver accessories.

On another note, I have been having so much trouble with my hair.  I have been using good quality shampoos and conditioners and my hair has been a nightmare to style.  Frustrated to the point of starting to think that short hair was a mistake, I bought a supermarket brand conditioner (have used it before) that is supposed to have all he bad things in it, and voila my hair is looking so much better today.  Does this happen to you?  I am also wondering if I have been over conditioning my hair?  Any advice on managing short hair.  I do have to wash it and style it every day, and I don't like using product.

BTW, cut and colour next Friday.

Thanks
xxx Deborah

Congratulations to M11! One of my daughters started judo this year and her test is coming up.
You look terrific. I find my short hair is very particular and the wrong product does make a difference. I generally shampoo with conditioner only but occasionally use shampoo just to re-boot it. But I have very dry hair and there is no such thing as over conditioning it.

Congrats to your son on his yellow belt! How wonderful. :-) He is adorable... And so tall (compared to mine). Your outfit is beautiful!

Have you tried doing a vinegar rinse after the shampoo and skip the conditioner? I use distilled vinegar diluted about half in water, but I have heard that apple cider vinegar is more softening. The other idea would be shampoo and then when you get out of the shower, use a light spray (leave-in) conditioner. And my third idea is to shampoo twice. A long time ago, my stylist said that the first shampooing loosens all of the dirt and opens the cuticle, but it takes a second shampooing to wash it all away. Not sure how that translates to the bad shampoo working better... But those are my ideas for what it's worth. :-)

What a cutie...DS and you smile...I love the impish grin on his face...I'll bet he is fun to have around...
For the hair...sometimes hair just misbehaves..I would think it may be your humidity...And switching shampoo is a great plan...I wouldn't worry about the cheapy drugstore brand if it works..
(Thanks Sarah for the info on shampooing twice...)

Congrats to DS! It's a big achievement.

As for your hair, it looks fantastic, so I am at a loss! Do you think the seasonal change could be part of the trouble? I do find mine is ornery (along with my wardrobe, LOL) when the seasons are in flux.

Deb -huge congrats to master 11!!  Awesome!!  On hair, I used to use logics for years no problem.  One year my hair started to feel like straw.  I do single process color to keep it the original brown.  My colorist gave me about 6-7 different salon shampoos/conditioners until I hit on Loreal Professional Liss Ultime.  I use their entire line - shampoo, conditioner, serum.  Two years ago again started to dry out and found Keratase (also a loreal professional product) ciment thermique (meant for blow drying)  So shampoo/condition (or just condition in shower), keratase with blow dry plus/minus serum.  A lot of product by my hair is shiny and soft.  I have baby fine hair, a lot of it, it has a wave and I like a sleek bob, so it will frizz in humidity.  But I do think you have to swap it up with time.  So feel your pain on this and I am in the product trenches with you!!  Glad you found something that works.

Wooohoooo. Well done Master 11. You are a clever lad, and look brilliantly fab in your karate togs.

Mama Debs, I love your natural hair colour weaving through your hair to break up the one dimension of the blonde. It adds texture and interest to your outfit and makes your light blue eyes dance. Super fabulous.

Your hair looks beautifully styled in these pics. It's hard to believe you've had problems styling it. Perhaps you need a little texturizing and thinning out to make the volume more manageable. I use Redken and Pureology shampoo and conditioner for blonde hair, which work really well. Have a word with your stylist about that. xo

Hi Deb- wonderful picture of you and your son - he does in indeed look proud!  (and should be!) .  What specifically is giving you trouble with your hair?  (and I too love the way it is right now !)   I do find that what use in my hair absolutely makes a difference in how it styles up - but only in terms of styling products, not shampoo or conditioner.   I have used every single brand and quality of shampoo /cond on my hair - from drugstore to premium salon-and-better brands, and it NEVER makes a difference.  What I put in afterward is what makes the style.   Anyways - are you happy with the cut itself?  The colour?  (because that changes the texture of the hair too - at least it does for me, and makes it far easier to style when it's freshly coloured)

Nothing but commiserations about hair issues from here Deborah!
Perhaps it is the recent humidity, but I have felt the same about mine too lately. Just a frizzy nest ATM.
Yesterday I tried an olive oil mask before washing, but it took 3 shampoos to get it out, and there is still some residue that is making me itch a little :(

Thanks for the hair input and acknowledgment of Master 11. It is an insane time for us.  School finishes for the year tomorrow and Master 11 is off school until February.   I finish up work in 8 days for Christmas and will having all of January off (yippee) and DH is frantic with all the things he has to get done for work (church) for the Christmas season - he is responsible for our Carols services etc.

Shevia, I have tried just using conditioner but my head felt kind of weird.  I might give it another go though.

Sarah you have shared the vinegar wash with me before and I haven't tried it.  Will do so.

Crutcher & Suz, thanks.  One of the issue is I have some breakage from my foray into platinum blonde and that it definitely impacting my styling.

Thanks Gryffin, will take a look at the products you mention.  All are available here.  Sounds like your hair is similar to mine.  Fine, lots of it, has wave and frizzes in humidity and I like it sleek and smooth.... not too much to ask is it?

Angie, thanks for the recommendations.  I am pretty hard on my assessment of my hair.  I feel it's one of my key signature style elements so I live in a world where it has to be 'perfect' lol.  My flirtation with all over platinum is over, it was fun but I wont be doing it again.  I am also loving the darker tones but it is in dire need of a colour... bring on Friday.

    Neel, thank you.

Lisa, I suspect the colour freshen up on Friday will make a difference.  My stylist did use a different colour product last time and I am wondering if my hair doesn't like it.  I haven't felt the colour has helped up as well as normal.  I will talk to her about this on Friday.

Lyn, did you make the olive mask?  You are game.  We don't usually experience humidity this time of year.  We get it in February and spend most of the month looking quite frazzled.. and frizzled lol
