WIW : Blue Monday

Hi Ladies,

Sterling's post about not wearing blue jeans got me thinking about my two pairs of blue jeans.  One of which is a skinny cut, the other a nice slim straight leg. I rarely wear either pair but occasionally they are just the right thing.

So last night I cropped the skinny pair.  How did I do??

Tunic : Witchery
Jeans : Kmart
Sandals : Novo

I think they look ok but cropped pants are kind of out of my comfort zone and the cropped lengths these days appear to be all over the place so hard to know if the length is right.

Was it worth the DIY?

Thanks for looking
xxx Deborah

Hmm Deb - seems we are both into the cropping right now!!  I'm not loving your crop - to be honest - thought maybe it is just how you've styled it. I think that tunic really needs bare legs or leggings.

Yes I think this is very successful, I like this length particularly with a longer tunic.  I love your sandals with these jeans and the tunic is beautiful - a stunning column of colour.  I like cropped pants for Australian summers as they are cooler than full length pants but give a bit more coverage than shorts.

I'm not a cropper either but I'm keen to try cropping next Winter and I'm looking forward to picking up my cropped Mottos tonight.

I like this look. I think that the 'column of colour' is a great way to wear them. I like that the long pendant does a nice little balancing trick too. It seems to be the same length as the amount of your jeans that are exposed. Nice!

I think that this is a cropping success. :)

Hi Deborah, I think they should be just a smidgen shorter. They look like they are sitting right on your ankle bone. I think just above the ankle bone would be better - just a bit more skin. About 3 to 5 cm shorter. I like this look - it's a nice casual change for you. However I do think cropped leggings would be sleeker/more polished with the tunic dress and more your usual style. But there is nothing wrong with varying your style, so I say if you feel like a change, go for it :)

Wow, that dress is always so fab on you but I would crop the jeans a bit shorter (esp. for warmer seasons) to have a bit of a wider gap between shoes and hem! Otherwise, just gorgeous!

Ha, I'm about to try this too, but keep hesitating on length. On yours, I agree with Brooklyn and Lyn: I think you could go slightly shorter. I also wonder if there shouldn't be an unfinished hem, or maybe stitch the original hem back on just to make it look more intentional. I'm planning on unraveling my original hem and re-stitching it to give the look of the cropped Current Elliott pair Angie's been wearing.

I love your tunic but am also with Brooklyn on pairing it with leggings or a more fitted skinny. Can we see these jeans styled with a shorter, boxier top maybe?

I'm flipping out over your sandals. They are gorgeous!

I am getting ready to try this too. I think with these boots they could go a bit shorter but might work with lower vamp shoes as it. Will be following for guidance.

I think you could go a bit shorter, which might slim up the opening a bit...which I feel could be more flattering. Alternatively, you could try to roll them once or twice, but perhaps that wouldn't fit your style aesthetic.

    Gorgeous tunic!

I love that dress! I think the proportions are off. Either a shorter tunic or perhaps heels instead of flats.

  • Meredith replied 8 years ago

Could go a touch shorter. I'd pull out any other shoes you might wear with the crops and pick a length that works with several pairs. Fun to see you in color these days!

Wow - that is a beautiful tunic/dress. I'm hopeless with cropped pants but I would probably wear my cropped leggings with that length of dress.

I'm no expert on crop length but I like the outfit overall and LOVE the tunic!

  • Sal replied 8 years ago

You look beautiful in that colour.  It is a stunning tunic and I also love the sandals.

I tend to agree a smidgeon shorter with the jeans....

I love the tunic and think it would be perfect with these sandals with bare legs....but I think with jeans or leggings maybe a heel might work brilliantly?

We need Angie's expert eye here-
I think the length is OK- enough to show a little skin and look intentional.

SO not the expert here, so FWIW:

    Tunic is fab.
Tunic to me should go with dressier or more fitted legging type pants--possibly some silk skinny pajama thing, though--and I favor darker like black footless tights or something (I guess that is leggings--I am so  not a leggings authority, as I don't have any) , instead of denim color.

For cropping the jeans, I would go a bit shorter though as mentioned, it could depend on footwear--higher shaft needs more crop.
Also, for the denim, a dark shoe would look good, so that instead of bookending hair, you are continuing the pant color but just inserting the sliver of skin.

You did great! Keep in mind I am not an expert on proportions, I struggle with this myself. Could you go shorter, perhaps but I love this outfit as is. It is so simple but elegant, casual and easy but chic.
