WIW : Colour & Pattern 2.0

Hi Ladies,

Was a member of a panel at a community meeting today and I just didn't feel like conforming and a wearing a suit (like the other panelists did) so wore my new Motto dress.

I have worn this to my Motto job, but not my office job before and I received some lovely compliments:)  I think the pairing with pants as opposed to leggings might cause some divided opinions, but that's ok, I am all ears:)

Would this dress be classified as a 'wild card' for me ?

Jersey Boheme Dress - Motto
Black Pants - Katies
Shoes - Rubi

At Motto I wore the dress with black cropped leggings and a platform wedge sandal, but for today I wanted height and I feel the dress is just a tad short at the front for bare legs at work.  The designer actually styles this dress with black pants that are similar to mine.  I think my next wearing will be  with my slim white pants??

Thanks for looking:)

xxx Deborah

You look lovely, Deb. I adore the print and the beautiful colors on this dress. I think the black pants give it an elegant touch here. And I agree, it'll look equally fabulous (and a lot more summery) paired with your white pants. Great outfit!

PS: I really really - really really love your hair! <3

Maneera, thank you for the hair compliment! After nearly 2 years of short hair I think I have finally settled into my short style.

    Wildcard, maybe. Statement, definitely :)

  • Emily replied 8 years ago

    Such a gorgeous outfit!

I think this is a wildcard that works beautifully.  I love neutrals (black, ink, white and grey), but when I want to add some more colour to my wardrobe, I find that prints (such as your dress) that have colour with neutrals, make them easier to wear.  This is a great summer dress/tunic.

I really like this! I like the pants with it, a little more unexpected than leggings. It is a bit different from your usual outfits, which I think is what you were hoping for. I expect you made an impact in the meeting!

Oh, Deb! You look sooo elegant, stunning and dramatic. Love it!

Wow, wow, wow! I would love to see this with black tights and pumps for an evening or special event statement!

Whowhowhow:-)) My goodness, I love this dress like u have styled it here, and can't wait to see it next time with the white pants, too! YLF Deb as you have the right attitude for it!!
I dunno if it's a wildcard, as to my eyes each time you wear  it's rather getting closer (and closer) to a signature piece! How does that sound   for your nonconformist persona?:-))

Another gorgeous outfit! I have worn dresses over pants before (sweater dresses over slim pants in winter) and I like the look of a dress over pants, no matter what the season. It'll look great with white pants too!

Deborah I am probably one of the people who veer away from pants under a dress but in this case, it looks wonderful.  The dress is a lovely print and predominantly B&W which is in line with your aesthetic but it is not your usual style so I suppose it would be a wildcard.  Whatever it is, it looks fab on you.

  • Colette replied 8 years ago

Wildcard or not, I really love this dress! It's a pattern I might even wear. I like the way you styled it as well as the other styling options you mentioned. You look great!

Oh, Deborah, I am speechless with how lovely you look in this. It's just stunning, bringing light to your beautiful face. I adore it. I do think it qualifies as a wild card for you due to the overall light tones and the pattern (but those diagonal lines also make it very "you" -- and appeal to me, as well, as a bit "sharper" than a typical paisley, say...) and although I'm one of those who has some trouble with pants under dresses, I think this works as is just perfectly. Anyway, my trouble is all for myself and is about how I feel in pants under dresses, not with the look, which I generally quite like. Probably more due to some apple tendencies here on my part than aesthetics, in other words. ;)

First of all, congratulations on your lack of conformity, lol!  I tove this and think it defintely qualifies as a wonderful wild card for you, only due to the print , not the silouhette.

    Looks really good. Nice wildcard.

  • catgirl replied 8 years ago

This looks stellar, and I totally see the attraction to this particular graphic print.

  • abc replied 8 years ago

Wow, this looks great on you.  A departure for sure, but still very you with the asymmetry and lines.  I do think it qualifies as a wildcard.  I can't wait to see it styled with white pants underneath as you mentioned.

You know I adore your hair but I must mention again how fab it looks.

  • Elizabeth P replied 8 years ago

Wow, this looks great on you.  I think abc summarized my thoughts... a departure, but still very you.  I'm not generally a fan of pants under a dress, but this appears to me to look more like leggings... which I wholly approve of :)

  • Sal replied 8 years ago

I love this Deborah, it is a great wildcard.  I think you will have fun wearing it.

And the great thing with bolder prints is that you don't have to worry much about layering nor accessories, just throw them on and go!!

Your hair is looking lovely I agree.

    YLF :)

    Stunning!

  • Peri replied 8 years ago

OMG that is gorgeous! You are gorgeous. I love this outfit so much! You just never cease to amaze.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 8 years ago

It's a wildcard, and a great pick, because it looks fabulous on you and fits right in with your style. This pairing with the black slim pants and edgy open-toe booties is fantastic. (You, rebel, you. I'm sure you were quite appropriately dressed for the panel, suit or no.)
Did you say white pants? I am behind! I haven't seen them. But yes, I think that would be a great outfit, too.

  • Bonnie replied 8 years ago

This is a great dress and I really like the colors on you. Your hair is perfect, too.

  • Missey replied 8 years ago

I love it!  So elegant and quirky at the same time.

  • Runcarla replied 8 years ago

No contest. This is a '10'.

  • E replied 8 years ago

Wow!!! You look so stunning; something about that top is just playing with your hair perfectly. :D

  • dakotacheryl replied 8 years ago

Simply Stunningly Wonderful !!!!   So different from your usual pairings, and so Fabulous !!

  • amiable replied 8 years ago

I see it as a wildcard for you, but it's really terrific!  And I love it with the jeans under it :)

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

The dress and your hair...a fabulous softer look for you. Suz said what I was thinking. I like the pants with this. It seems a bit dressier than leggings, especially with some heel, for your panel. I hope that you felt gorgeous in this outfit because you are.

  • AJ replied 8 years ago

You have such a great eye for polished, sophisticated, arty outfits! I really like how you styled this. The hi-low hem of the dress, the crisp and tailored pants, the modern peep-toe booties, your gorgeous hair, and signature red lippie all add up to FABULOUSNESS!!

  • Cococat replied 8 years ago

I would never ever think to put pants with a dress like that...but it looks amazing!

I hope that the Motto people realise what a star you are and that your fab style translates into sales for you. I saw that dress online and thought 'meh' but not any more.

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

Overwhelmed by your dress love...thank you!

Unfortunately, the fabric seems to have a fault and has developed "runs" across the front of the dress:(. Taking it back tomorrow and may have to return as I think its find out. Feeling a bit disappointed :((
