WIW : Xmas Cantata

Happy Sunday!

Beth Anne mentioned recently I seem to be in an exploratory phase with my style and I would definitely agree.  I have been enjoying looking at different (for me) things and seeing how they might serve to 'enhance my stye' rather than compromise it.   However I have been missing wearing some of my more edgy black looks so I got out my summer open to ankle boots(so need to replace these) and went back to a more 'typical' outfit today, to attend church for our Christmas Cantata which I co-narrated :)

Outfit is:

Lauren Crop Pant / Motto
Kaffy Cami / Motto
Ankle Boots / Rubi
Necklace / Recent Gift from a friend:)

I think there is enough skin showing to balance the heavy black for summer??  I would say this type of outfit really does define my taste and style.  It's what I always come back to.

Do you find you will expand your style but still have that base or foundation that you always remain true to?

Thanks for looking and as always appreciate your thoughts.

xxx Deborah

Your black outfits area.ways stunning. I can understand why you come back to them.

ETA:  The foundation that I probably have is classic pieces...sheath dresses, pencil skirts, neutrals or a column of color, some sort of jacket/blazer, button-down shirts and blouses.

Great balance between black and skin - you look fab! We were just looking at pictures from when the kids were younger and they repeatedly said to me that I would never wear that now, so I am not sure I have a core style, but if I do it definitely involves jeans.

Black, layers and drape always look fab on you!

    Classic Deborah - Lovely!

And yes - I am pretty loyal to my "base"

I think my core base is what makes me feel happy when dressing...I never stray too far from it, or for more than a day at a time.

Your black, with an edgy top and cool footwear is always wonderful on you!!

I think the amount of skin showing does suggest a summer look. I don't subscribe to rules about which colours should be worn in particular season. I wear whatever colour makes me happy. Which means I tend to wear the same colours all year round! So I guess that is my base that I come back to (although I love trying new styles). You look fab Deborah. :)

This is the Deborah everyone knows around here.  It really works for you, the black has never washed you out nor aged you (the way it does on me).  It's hard to look modern, edgy while still looking polished and you pull that off with your strong sense of style.

Black is always a great choice onstage!  There is something that relaxes the eye in an all black look.  Done well, it frames the wearer and brings the person, not the clothes forward.  Add a true modern and slightly edgy look to the clothing items, and it sends a message that the wearer is confident and engaged, but serene.  It makes sense that performers and artists would adopt an all black aesthetic!

This absolutely works for you.  The drape is still fairly close to the body, which keeps it from overwhelming you.  The neckline opens and highlights your face.

Beautiful! I love all black best when one can show a bit of skin and to me, this is perfect! What a lovely neckline, too -- it highlights your face and the interesting accessory.

Well of course this looks gorgeous on you.  It's so you!

This comment got me thinking: Do you find you will expand your style but still have that base or foundation that you always remain true to?
I think I'm doing it all backwards!  I feel like for the past few years I've been circling around, playing with the style expansion, yet am only now honing in on that base or foundation that is truly me.  This might be worth a thread of it's own!

Classic Deb at its best. Love it!

I think the all-black look is fine for summer.  You have plenty of skin showing with sleeveless top, neckline, and open-toed shoes.  Great look and I also love the necklace.

    Fabulous as always Deborah.

I've had my eye on that top for a while now. I wonder how it would look with a knee length pencil skirt.

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

Coco this top has just been restocked. It's really nice! I'm planning on wearing it with my midi length pencil with asymmetric hem. It would work very nicely with a pencil skirt IMVHO xx

It is a lovely look on you Deborah - very elegant with a stunning drape.  Modern but timeless.

I have been lurking more than commenting this month, but I see you have been experimenting.  I think it is fun to have a core/base look and flirt with other styles as well.  I think the key is knowing how much to flirt/experiment.....

I agree this is a lovely top, stunning shape!
