Crushing on this!

Hi Ladies,

I have had this sitting in my cart for some time now! It's now reduced and I have a voucher !!

I have mentioned I have a low colour mixing tolerance and I really prefer solids but every now and again pattern and colour will catch my eye, interestingly when I am attracted to pattern, it will usually be a jacket as evidenced in my finds.

So may I ask you what you think of this one. I really love it. It's my style of jacket and I think the abstract nature of the pattern would work for my style. I am very attracted to the colours and think they would be flattering?? I haven't tried it on and would have to order on line. For your info it's from Metalicus:).

My one hesitation is the yellow in the pattern. I don't wear yellow at all.

Thanks for looking, love to know what you think.

xxxDeborah

It's quite a departure from your usual style in that it's much lighter than your other patterned jackets. I'll be frank and say that it doesn't grab me as such, but that I do have a lot of faith in your ability to choose great clothes!

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

Appreciate your thoughts Anne, sometimes I do loose the plot lol. Maybe I need to try it and get it out of my system one way or another:)

  • Sal replied 8 years ago

How were you thinking of styling it? I can see white pants and denim as good partners. It looks a lovely jacket.

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

Sally I was thinking black bottoms and white top to start with for the office, I don't do much blue denim but you are right it would work. White pants and white skirt yes:). I also have a white dress it might work over.

  • Brooklyn replied 8 years ago

I think it would really suit your colouring. I could definitely see it with white. I am not so sure about black but I trust your judgment on that! I would not worry about the yellow as it is not the dominant colour. It is very pretty - like an impressionist painting.

  • Cococat replied 8 years ago

I think it could work and if you decide yay, I will be really looking forward to seeing how you style it. White seems a good choice and black might be an interesting contrast.

  • harmonica replied 8 years ago

I say go for it! I think it would work with your wardrobe if the fit is great. The jacket style and pattern is sharp and arty. :-)

  • approprio replied 8 years ago

The print is glorious, the cut is very you and I think the dominant white will play beautifully with black. You should at least try it.

  • Maneera replied 8 years ago

Wow! That's a work of art!!! Definitely try it on. I think that despite the bright colors, the abstract print will mean that you can easily pair it with black, white & navy.

  • replied 8 years ago

It is rather lovely! I definitely think you need to get it home and have a play with it. The print is fab and so is the cut of it.

  • kkards replied 8 years ago

i can see why you are attracted to this…the colors are lovely and the cut is so you….but like anne, i wonder if it's something you would really reach for. but its worth getting home and playing with….

  • lyn67 replied 8 years ago

The print is beautiful, right up your (and probably mine, too:-)) alley-but would hesitate to pair it with all blacks you mostly have(maybe with lots of bare skin to it). I would pair it with all whites instead, or at least light greys(silver), maybe light(or even darker) denim, or one other  color in the print. Curious, how would you style it?

ETA: Hah,  I have just found out my answers in your comments above, and then think is worth to give it a try!:-)

  • replied 8 years ago

I think the yellow is counterbalanced by the blue, so I don't see a problem there (unless the colours vary by piece). I agree with others that the cut looks nice too. maybe it would play best with white, denim or navy/midnight, but you could find a way to successfully style it with black I'm sure!

I'm having trouble seeing past the print as it looks a bit dated to me, but my eye is having to readjust to the reintroduction of prints and looks from my past, so perhaps the fact I feel that way means it's very on trend ;). Give it a whirl and see if you fall in love or it get it out your system.

Every time you step outside your norm, you seem to nail it perfectly. Love your sense of adventure!

  • lynn replied 8 years ago

I think this would be beautiful with navy along with the white and denim that others have mentioned. Maybe with black...

I have been drawn to similar prints, Deborah.  They are not my usual by a long shot, as I am a multiple neutral wearing, generally solid colors type. I call them "go with everything abstracts" and they appeal for that sense of vibrant versatility. For me, they play out one of two ways: complete disaster that reads muddy and almost chaotic with my already "busy" freckled skin or a rare pleasant surprise. I generally talk myself off the cliff, as I have to love the print to want to wear it for real. Sometimes I regret not giving them a chance; like the gorgeous floral jacket recently recommended by Angie and worn beautifully by Janet and others.

If you are not sure, why not try it out?  Your ability to create stunning looks, some signature ultra Deborah, as well as the distinctive and lovely variants, is epic. I think if the colors and print play well for you, the outfits you create will be wonderful. Also, if it doesn't suit you, you'll be able to refine your search based on what you learned.

I love the colors and find the pattern to be very pretty in an artistic way.  My only concern is that it is a big departure for you and I wonder if it would be worn often.  Most of your pieces are neutral and drape which makes them almost interchangeable.  This one would be a stand-out and perhaps less flexible.  I do think it would look lovely and the yellow is a minor player in the color scheme so I doubt that would be an issue.  This comes down to personal choice I'm afraid.

  • Sara L. replied 8 years ago

I think it's a very interesting piece and I love both the colors and the style.  I think it would be worth ordering and playing with your closet.

  • Angie replied 8 years ago

Go for it. It's that simple!

  • Janet replied 8 years ago

I think it's worth trying. Outlier items like this require a little time at home experimenting with styling, in my experience. Either way, you will find your answer better than you will with it sitting in your shopping cart! ;-)

  • Beth Ann replied 8 years ago

I could see it looking sleek with grey, as well as white.  What about lower contrasts --- grey top, white bottoms?  I think you can easily just ignore the yellow, since it's like an accent in the print.  I like the fact that this pattern is in a completely different colorway that is your usual, and is a more diffused, rather than geometric, abstract print.  That would make me more likely to purchase, not less.  Also, I sense you're in a bit of an exploratory mode at the moment.

I find a print woven top, or a jacket, can make an instant outfit.  Do I tire of prints?  Sometimes, but I think the energy they give an outfit is worth it.  I have two print sweaters in my closet at the moment -- both wildcards for me.  I wear both a lot, particularly when I want a simple outfit with some punch.

You have excellent taste so if you've been longing for it, I would go ahead and try it.  This new color may be just what you need

  • catgirl replied 8 years ago

It reminds me of your wildcard dress and also jackets by Alberto Makaki. This kind of color pattern with white clearly speaks to you so why not?

  • AviaMariah replied 8 years ago

I love it and think you should go for it!

  • Brooklyn replied 8 years ago

Deborah, 30 % off metalicus today!

  • Dee replied 8 years ago

I vote that you go for it!  As others have said, I can't wait to see how you style it.

  • Meow replied 8 years ago

    Deborah,
I'm not a print person either. But I am drawn to this as well. Beautiful abstract colors. I think it works well with your avant Gard style but leans to the artistic side. I see this with a white column of color or really any neutral. I say go for it!

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

Ladies thank you! And Brooklyn thank you!!! I did get an email but have been at work and wouldn't have seen it. I bought it! Cost me 29.95 with shipping:) thanks to voucher and 30% off:). Cannot wait to get it! It is final sale, no return I think so here's hoping.

I have a good history with this jackets and I love each one I have bought. They have become really special almost signature pieces for me. I have just collected my current Metalicus jackets below in my finds if you are interested.

Will let you know when it arrives xxx

  • Elizabeth P replied 8 years ago

I really like it!  It will be a bit of a "wildcard" for you, but I think it's in line with your style.  I can see it with that new white tube skirt.  Don't worry about the yellow... it's part of a pattern.... you're not really wearing yellow :)

  • Aquamarine replied 8 years ago

I think you have to try it and style it with other items. I don't think I would like it over head-to-toe black for your style, but if you wore a black dress for example and showed some leg, it would help soften it. A white shirt or bottoms would probably be a no-brainer.

  • texstyle replied 8 years ago

I think it looks great for you and can definitely see it being styled with black, white or gray - look forward to seeing how it works out!

  • DonnaF replied 8 years ago

IMHO, the jacket is compatible with your style; I hope you try it out!  I think the challenge will be whether its length will give you the proportions you want in your proposed outfits.

  • Cococat replied 8 years ago

I saw it IRL in Myer today and it was really nice. I'm looking forward to seeing you style it Deborah.

  • Lyn D. replied 8 years ago

I have seen it IRL too- it is very bright indeed!
Of course you should try it as you can always return if it doesn't,t play well with your black :)

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

Now you have me crushing on this jacket. It may not be in the neutrals that we are used to seeing on you, but it has assymetry and drama. I love the print.
