WIW : To An Ordination

Hi Fabbers,

It's been a great Sunday. Our Senior Pastor was ordained today, which is a big thing in the Baptist Church. It was a big service with 4 other local ministers being ordained also and our auditorium was full to overflowing with attendance of about 650.

I "stage managed" the event and had a ball. A few challenges along the way but this is part of the work I used to do in Melboune before I moved to Bendigo, and it felt really good.

With my outfit, I wanted comfort, to look like me and still have an air of authority and professionalism. So I went for a trusty ensemble....leggings, booties, draped tunic and draped jacket. The leggings and jacket are both black ponte so kind of gives the impression of a modern suit?

Pics taken after the event and I must say I'm a bit ragged...need a hot cuppa and a sit down.

Thanks for looking and suggestions for improvement or ideas for restyling always very welcome.

xxx Deborah

Perfect :) I love the idea of a modern suit, I just look and feel frumpy in a traditional suit.
You have put together the perfect take charge, professional but approachable look in your own wonderful style.
Sit down and have a cuppa. Now :)

A wonderful example of an artistic modern suit. It's nice that you got back something you like after a move.

Great outfit for the occasion or anything. I love the shape made by the cut away of the jacket with the hem of the tunic. Congratulations on a successful event too!

    Lovely, Deborah! And congratulations!

I love how appropriate and modern this outfit is, given that the circumstances would make more traditional options expected and perfectly acceptable.

It's subtle, very "background" and no taking the spotlight in any way, but infused with your signature all over.

That tunic is divine :) the outfit looks comfy enough for running around and "stage managing" yet still looking very sophisticated.

Lovely outfit! Enjoy your well-deserved rest!

    Killer

I love blue with black. xo

Stage manager?  Well, that explains your love of black, lol!  Of course, stage managers can't scream obscenities when they're in the church -- which is a blessing!  Managing events like this is such an important job and can make such a difference.

Love the blue/black and the generous draping.

Love the blue and black! What a great way to do a suit look in your fabulous, individual way.

Beautiful! It's professional and conservative but still stylish, with your little "Deborah" touch of the asymmetric hem.

I can only imagine how stressful something like that must be to manage! I agree with Beth Ann that it makes such a big difference when everyone knows what they're supposed to be doing and when.

Gorgeous! I love the black/blue with your beautiful hair. The perfect right level of drama.

Congrats to your pastor! How exciting!

    Looks perfect Deborah!
I thought a senior Pastor would already be ordained? How does that work?

  • Caro in Oz replied 9 years ago

Fab look. Is that the Target tunic?

  • replied 9 years ago

Deborah, I love your ink and black together! The detail that thrills me the most is the way the right side of your tunic and jacket hems line up exactly. It's all in the details! Well, unless you took that picture in the mirror. In that case it's the left hems (I think. I'm getting really confused, lol)! You get the picture!
You look fantastic, modern, approachable and In Charge. I'm glad the event went well.

    Thanks so much everyone:)

Lyn, apparently many baptist pastors are trained and certified but full ordination is the final step.  You can work and serve in ministry with the correct training without neceassarily being fully ordained.  Our Pastor has been studying for some time to get to this point.  Truth is I don't fully understand it but that's how it's been explained to me. Maybe it's kind of like getting your "Masters", its taking you study to the highest level.

Caro, yes, that is the target tunic.  Katies have a quite nice hammered satin one at the moment too:)

    Happy Monday everyone.

Love this look Deborah. The blue tunic is fab.

  • Deborah replied 9 years ago

Thanks Carolbee. It's an easy piece to wear:)

Have you posted yours Caro? How do you wear yours?

  • Caro in Oz replied 9 years ago

No I haven't posted. Been busy with recording all my clothing in Stylebook :)
I've only worn mine once, with my dark wash blue jeans, blue booties & a cream jacket.

    That top is so interesting!

And interesting about the ordination... So a pastor becomes a minister?
