WIW : Thrifty Thursday

Hi Ladies:)

I have meetings out if the office today so comfort and professionalism is the order of the day.

Navy & White flecked jacket - Perri Cutten
Ink blue satin blouse - Suzanne Grae
Blue & White spot scarf - Myer
Black Ponte slim leg pants - local boutique
Black leather pumps

Oh and the thrifted pieces are the jacket and shoes (brand new unworn).

Hope this works:). Thanks for looking.

xxx Deborah

Oh it most definitely works Deborah! I adore blue and black together - one of my favourite colour combinations. These pieces all work so well together - great thrifting!

Oh, Shannon just reminded me that the jacket and the shoes were thrifted?!! No way! I love this sophisticated pairing. The scarf is a great addition. Can you tell me what the difference between ink and navy is? Is ink lighter? More purple?

Love the jacket! What a great thrifting score!

Very beautiful and professional. i like how the outfit works both with and without the jacket, and is still very interesting without.

Another gorgeous ensemble in your signature black and blue. You always look so elegant and this is professional as intended without being boring or stuffy.

    Thanks Shannon:)

And Claire, yes I had an amazing thrifting day not so long ago. There is a newly opened thrift store (Opp shop) here that has the most amazing things (i.e. quite a bit of designer stuff) at ridiculous prices. The jacket is Perri Cutten, a well known Aussie designer and the jackets sell for $300 plus and this was $6.00. Its in perfect condition and looks barely worn. The shoes were $3.00 (new and unworn) and I also bought my MIL a beautiful black short pea coat, as new, for $6.00 - again a very good label. Its the same store I picked up my Table Eight Grey blazer. Wish I could take you there.

And maybe Angie could make the definition between navy and ink blue. I can see the difference but I am not sure how to articulate it.

Lovely as usual! You really rock those inky blues Deborah.

    Pinned! Enough said :)

LOVE it when you break up the head to toe black, Deb. I find it so very pretty, fresh and sophisticated when you dress in this way.

OOOOooooooooh pinned is the new KILLER. very sophisticated look Deborah!

Deborah, you look classy, sophisticated and modern. I cannot believe that jacket was $6?! And $3 for the shoes?! Incredible finds.

  • Fruitful replied 11 years ago

Really love the silhouettes Deborah (the trim fit of the jacket, then the looser drape of the top). Perfect. Amazing op shop finds too! xx

You have given me a lovely boost today ladies.. thank you. I am fasting for 24 hours for a routine colonoscopy tomorrow (hope that's not too much info) and I am feeling a bit average and nervous, so your lovely words are taking my mind of things.

Angie I am flattered to be "pinned". Please excuse my ignorance but are we pinning to Pinterest?? I am just getting into this. Or can we "pin" through YLF?

I have been 'exploring' a bit recently with styles but I realise that this outfit really symbolises what I see as my style and how I feel most comfortable and your comment has really confirmed that. I am also working hard (and it is hard given how much black is in my closet) at developing outfits that are not head to toe black. Where I once used to love it, now I see clearing how harsh it is!

Christy you know I think the fact that we can thirft such good items is sadly indicative of a growing attitude of everything being so disposable and how quickly we become bored with 'things'. On the other hand I see it is as environmentally and socially responsible to donate things we no longer wear as many people shopping in thrift stores do so because they can't afford to shop regular retail.

Ah...food for thought Deborah and a great insight as to the thrifting finds. If I had more thrift stores near me, I think I'd be more inclined to try to shop there. All I have nearby is a kind of "fancy" consignment shop where there are a fair amount of designer items, but they are still pretty spendy....

Very professional and chic! I love the jacket.

I added this to my favorites, Deborah. One of my goals for fall is to mix blue and black. I like the term "ink" blue. It implies to me a deep, but clear and distinct blue. Navy can run the gamut -- so dark it's indistinguishable from black -- purple tinged, etc.

Gorgeous and elegant. Are you tired of me saying that? I also agree with your insights about the level of stuff found in thrift stores (for those of us lucky to live near good ones). I have found brand new shoes that someone has apparently donated without wearing out of the house on more occasions than I can count. And my shoe collection reflects it!

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

WOW! Your new Op shop sounds unbelievable! I don't know quite how I am going to do this...I need to make a trip to Winnipeg to thrift with Shannon, and then to Arizona to get some tips from Claire, and then to Australia to thrift with you?!

The problem with my local stores is that the quality can be quite poor (except for very lucky finds).

This looks sensational on you. And I agree, it's a real signature look.

I might be worth a trip to your area to find a P.C. jacket and shoes like those.
Love the blue on you Deborah!

You always look so polished and sophisticated! I love the way you combined the dark colors. Fab outfit!
