WIW : The Same But Different;)

Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend, or at least heading into a great weekend.

I know my outfits this week have all been very similar! I go months and months, sometimes a year without wearing leggings and then all of a sudden I am in love with them again lol.

The ones I am wearing are from Brown Sugar and are a dressier, slinkier fabrication than my others. They are also long so I get scrunch and what I consider to be a more 'relaxed' fit.

This dress is a Melbourne purchase before I relocated 3 years ago so it's a bit old. Having lost some weight I found it fitted quite fluidly today so I popped it on for lunch with a friend. I was considering putting it in the donate pile but may consider keeping as it is so easy to wear and might be useful to hand on too, though I think I might prefer it if it was sleeveless.

Anyway if you are sick of seeing black dress, leggings and sandals, look away... I do understand:)

For reference:

#1 : Today
#2: Yesterday
#3: Earlier in the week

Otherwise your comments and thoughts are always appreciated.

xxx Deborah

They are all gorgeous!  Not sick of it at all.  (In fact, just bought myself a black summer dress.  Now to wait six months to wear it....)

Actually I like today's the best. If you are going to donate...donate it to me! No, you should keep it! But I love the sleeves and the center draping.

And...they way you have them is the only way I like leggings. With shorter things I just feel like it looks like someone forgot their pants. The way you wear them looks artsy and beautiful.

I just love your leggings with those sandals. It really makes the look intentional. Each looks so Deborah. I can't pick a favorite.
Your hair is looking especially beautiful.

Elegant, chic and I say:  Keep, keep, keep!

Deborah, you get more gorgeous by the minute.

I would keep because it does have sleeves and a different neckline.
The way you are wearing the necklace looks very good too!

I have to agree with everyone else.....I love this look and am thinking I need some long scrunchy leggings now. These looks are easy and elegant.....
    PERFECT. :)

You are a master of making black look fresh and arty each time!  Although I think this is the first time I've seen leggings with open toe, high vamp sandals.  It strikes me as a little bit seasonally confused.  I don't dislike it...just need to adjust my eyes to the look.

Deborah, you know your own style so well and I admire that confidence.  I wish I could hone in on mine in the same way, any suggestions?

Also -- do you feel your style is becoming more avant garde?  Or is there another way to describe your style shift?  I see fewer classics on you than I used to.

Thanks for your lovely words ladies :)

Denise I think I have two strong aspects to my style based on the two areas of my life, which are my work life (3 days per week) and my non work life (4 days). My natural leaning has always been toward the more 'avant garde' stylings. Black, layers, drape, to my mind interesting silhouettes.

You can see from some garments that I have had for years that this style has been common in my wardrobe forever, but it's been YLF that has given the confidence to dress they way I like and has taught me how to assess elements of garments. So now rather than just buy every black dress I see that is in my price range, I assess carefully the design elements, the quality and does it fit my perceived style persona. Also perhaps it has something to do with being 40+ where I find myself no longer concerned with what others think (I mean that in the nicest way) about how I dress.

I am aware of having become much more intentional, giving thought to my style and what feels good and how I like to look. Rather than just blindly buying what I 'like" but maybe doesn't suit me or really feel like me. I find I "like" many looks and styles but not necessarily for me.

My work style does tend to me more classic. This works because it provides all the variety I need and makes my 'personal time" dressing all the more enjoyable. I am trying to incorporate some drape and interest into my more classic work outfits in attempt to bring more of me into my work wardrobe.

The outfit in #2 is not one I would wear to work. I could but I like to keep it for 'me'... does that make sense?

As far as suggestions go, the biggest thing for me has been giving myself permission to dress as I like. I recognise that my style preferences are limited. I can walk our Mall and see many beautiful clothes that I appreciate, but there are very few that I would actually wear.

I find your style extremely well honed Denise. I think you embrace more trend than I do, but you do it in a way that has a lot of integrity in that you make it yours, you don't look like a carbon copy of the catalogue version. You also dress with incredible consistency and there is an edge to all your outfits. xxx

Wow, all three outfits are amazing. I actually think they look very different from each other - they might superficially be the same, but the differences in drapes of each of the dresses really makes each one unique. You really have amazing and inspiring style!

These are all great looks :)  My personal favourite is the last one - it looks very streamlined & minimalist & I love the proportions.

Not sick at all, Deb, just amazed how you can do this work day after day without looking blah or even too extravagant! You  do really own this style, cut and color! It's like your second skin! Happy for you, as you are able to infiltrate more of your private style into your work outfits! That's a big accomplishment, and it's my aim, too:-)

Great idea to pair leggings with a long dress, it looks nice and warm!
