WIW : Sporty Luxe ??

Hi Ladies,

I was going to say I am a late adopter, but as you know I am more of a non-adopter lol so this wasn't exactly intentional.

I really felt like comfort and ease today AND I needed a non boot day.  As much as I love my boots, winter can get a little "boots and leggings AGAIN", so I started with my slip on sneaks, added leggings, striped top and draped long vest.  Scarf for warmth.

I think the sporty is communicated via the sneaks and the leggings, and the luxe through the wool blend draped vest and Oroton bag.

Wore this to church and for the rest of the day.  It had enough dressy for me to feel like me:)

#4 is are new earrings.  DH said they were interesting!!

In other news, I haven't been on the forum quite as much as we are trying to cut back Master 12's time on his computer games and social media (he has an Instagram account and spends time on You Tube(.   I feel I need to set an example and cut back on my computer / social media time (I am a little addicted myself). I also bought a bike on Friday and have been riding with Master 12 daily, again to get him out of the house and away from screens.  So I will popping in mostly when he is at school or asleep lol.

Thanks or taking a look and your thoughts, suggestions, etc much appreciated.

xxx Deborah

I love the stripes on you. The vest is kind of unexpected. The combination really works. Thumbs up.

  • Cococat replied 8 years ago

I really like it Deborah. I would never think to pair the blue and white stripes with black, but it works so well! The Oroton bag certainly gives your look the lux touch and the shoes, the sporty touch.

I have missed you here! I tried a 'Deborah inspired' layering look with my CG top. I was very nervous about it because it was way outside my comfort zone but the lovely ladies here said that it worked. I would like to try it with a more fitted jacket next. Anyway, sorry to make it all about me, lol.

I can see why you had to set a good example with Master 12. The computer can be so addictive, and then there's the added problem of sedentary behaviour. The bike sounds like fun!

CocoC, I loved your layered look.  I did comment but should go back and check as recently some of my comments have disappeared.

OK - so, how are you able to combine sporty luxe with dramatic - and look so darn good????  I love this Deborah!  Very few people could pull this off - you are one of them!

  • Sal replied 8 years ago

I like this, the layering works brilliantly. Perfect for a Sunday!

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

Marley, thanks so much!  That is such a lovely compliment:)  If I have learnt anything, I think it is how important it is to be true to ourselves when we dress.  The vest is a very me item and may be an usual pairing with the overall outfit but I think it helps to make a more sporty (I am not sporty at all) outfit more "genuine" to me :) xxx

I like your new earrings Deborah :)

  • Maneera replied 8 years ago

Deb...I have missed you here! I was about to send you a PM today to check all was good with you and ask what you wore to church (I look forward to that every Sunday!) So it's great to see your Sunday post.

Love the stripes! What a great shirt, Deb! And you wear slip on sneakers so very well!

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

Thanks Maneera:)  I will still be here as much as possible.  I realise that my time on YLF and the interactions we all have are really food for my soul.  It does me good :)

Love this look. I really like the striped shirt, and the colour looks great with black. I hear you on reducing kids screen time, and needing to set an example. I hope you have lovely weather for bike rides.
    PS I now have a Deborah-inspired drape cardi....and it's even black .
I will try to do a travel capsule WIW when I'm home again.

Love this! It so great to see you in a more casual look. You can do it all! Can't wait to see your summer outfits :) Could you tell me where the sneaks are from?

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

Helen11 thanks :) Do you have similar age kids?

Brooklyn, thank you!  The sneaks are from Target.  I bought them last year but I think we will see them around again this Spring:)

  • dakotacheryl replied 8 years ago

Love the stripes...love the sneakers...love the earrings LOL !!

We are also into cycling and have a great path to ride on close to our home that's exclusively for non-motorized traffic, so hiking, biking, horses etc. 100 miles north to south...not that I've ridden the whole length, especially as it has some areas with a pretty steep grade. It follows an old railroad bed.

  • Suz replied 8 years ago

This is brilliant! I love the mix of sporty and dramatic. I don't know how you do it, but I must study it all carefully and see if I can figure it out.

Also, I am CRYING that this counts as "winter" wear where you live. No wonder you can be more fashionable!! This kind of outfit would be mid-to-late Spring, mid-fall where I live. No way no how could I go out without socks in any kind of winter weather.

May I cry to you this Canadian winter when "boots with skinnies" gets old for me? Or move to Australia?????

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

Suz, it was a low of 6 today and I know you have it much colder:). I was wearing nude stocking socks:). Truth be told, a jacket would have been good when I went to church but my time between car and buildings today was minimal so I didn't bother. And yes, I will be your shoulder when you are totally over boots and skinnies lol.

Thanks for your kind words, I was just feeling a bit adventurous this morning ;)

And yes, move to Australia! You would receive a very warm welcome xx

    One word:  Plonk!

  • unfrumped replied 8 years ago

So fun! Truly Sporty Luxe as you have a very polished, sharp look but so comfy. I am always amazed at how you can wear black shoes with your hair and it looks so right.

  • Word Lily replied 8 years ago

Yay! I love how you're stretching/pushing the edges of your established style but remaining so fully you.

  • replied 8 years ago

Love that vest !  Great accessories too here :)

  • Angie replied 8 years ago

    Killer

LOVE THE BLUE AND WHITE ACCENTS.

You have a brilliant eye, Deborah. I love you in cobalt and adding the black vest to tie the look together is genius. Those earrings...wow. I seriously want a pair of these.

As much as I'll miss your frequent presence here, can I just shout out loud how much I APPLAUD your decision to set an example by cutting back on screen time. Kids and screen time has been a huge issue for the American Academy of Pediatrics, and they've really been struggling to find a balance when making recommendations between practical use (school, teaching kids how to self limit, parent need to entertain kids at times) and the possible tendency of young brains to come 'addicted'. A big drawback is the gap in what pediatricians notice but a lack of real study on the actual effects of screen time. Asking parents to cut back and set an example seems to be a real winning strategy, especially for kids in your son's age group. I work with 2 MDs who've been involved in this area and one will be running a Twitter chat on it this week. Sorry to go off topic with the rant, but as someone who works on pediatric behavioural health issues, I feel the urge to give you some serious props! It's not easy.

  • kellygirl replied 8 years ago

    Whoa! This is killer!

  • christy replied 8 years ago

Love this! I know you love your black, but this cobalt is such an amazing color on you. And congrats on reducing screen time for both you and your boy...I know how hard that can be!

  • Style Fan replied 8 years ago

I echo Suz about the winter.  I look like a giant marshmallow.

You look great as always.  Love the cobalt with black.  I also applaud cutting back on screen time.  I do the same.  It is so easy to spend hours on the computer.

  • frannieb replied 8 years ago

Great sporty luxe outfit. Your riff on the trend is one I could totally get behind.

Love how you are setting an example for master. I know I have to watch my screen time. I used to read a lot on my kindle but realized my daughter thought it was all screen time so I have purposely gone back to reading paper books. The example really does help. Much easier to get her to read now.

Deb - you are a killer stylish woman and a killer fabulous Mom :)

  • Jaime replied 8 years ago

Love the blue and white top and the earrings - and you put it all together wonderfully!

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

Thanks for your kind words gorgeous ladies! And thanks for the encouragement re screen management. Nice to know we are not the only ones challenged by this;). xxx

  • jackiec replied 8 years ago

This is outstanding, Deb. Love the pop of cobalt with it all. And those earring are fab. Love them.

I hear you on the screen challenges. We are deeply entrenched in similar situations. Trust me it can get a lot worse. A lot (speaking from experience, and from lots of limits as well). I find my time here on YLF comes in waves exactly for the same reason. Keep up the good work. Have fun on your new bike :)

  • shedev replied 8 years ago

    This looks great.

  • anne replied 8 years ago

    Yes, looking good.
I have to confess , re Suz's comments, that the first thing I thought of were your bare ankles. But I see now that you were covering them!

I admire and sympathise with you on the screen time issue. We had always been quite strict about TV watching, and our girls don't have any video games, but after saving up for an ipod between the oldest two (which took them a few years) they are using it way too much for my liking and I have kind of signalled to them that I'll be looking into it. DD12 has a computer for school work and I found it hard to supervise how much she uses that too.

So well done (and I'm a little envious. My girls would LOVE me to go bike riding with them but I need a new tire, which has been bought months  and DH hasn't put on - and he doesn't want anyone to do it!)
