WIW: Ensemble.. Winter Interpretation.

Hi Ladies,

I loved CocoC's winter interpretation of the Casual Black Summer Dress and it was just what I needed to inspire me to wear this new (4 months old) dress for the first time.

#1 - #4
Black 3/4 length sleeve draped dress.  I bought it at a market after having seen the same dress in stores in Melbourne and Bendigo, but at a price that I thought was a bit steep.  Same quality jersey and a better price point so I snapped it up, but because the sleeves are 3/4 I haven't worn it as it's been too cold.

Dress:  Wishbone
Cropped Sweater : Metalicus
Chelsea Pendant : Liberte
Ankle Boots : Rivers
Scarf :  Adele's Shoe Boutique

This Metalicus Cropped Sweater has already paid for itself!   I knew I would wear it, but I didn't realise how much.  It is light but so good for layering and is so warm when layered that it's been the perfect item for my freezing office:)

#5 - #7
I wore this yesterday for coffee with a friend and then to attend an afternoon church service at school.

Mixed Media Jacket : Blossom
Tunic : C/- Birdsnest
Ponte Leggings : Target
Ankle Boots : Hush Puppies
Bag : Nine West

Thank you for looking.  All feedback and suggestions much appreciated.

xxx Deborah

Once again you are demonstrating how to layer with great skill.  I don't know how you come up with the combinations you do Deborah but they have such great flow and proportion.  I particularly like your outfit for coffee with a friend.

Deborah, I really like your casual black dress Winter interpretation! Layering a sweater over your dress is a fantastic idea. It goes with the more casual theme, but gives it an edgy look. I also love that your dress has a very interesting cut.

Outfit number 2 is fab as well. It looks like it's still very cold where you are.

CocoC it was 6 degrees when I left for work this morning! So still cold here:).

Love that crop sweater!!  Great layering and you look fabulous once again!!

I love your winter version of the little black dress. I can see that your cropped black sweater has become a workhorse in your wardrobe! You look lovely!

I particularly love the 2nd outfit. Skillful layering that is so interesting, dramatic and artistic. I wonder how you do it! Love the proportions of this outfit, and the bag is a great addition.

Great looks with striking pieces! I just love the skirt shape on your dress, and how beautifully the dress works under the sweater and with the scarf for winter. Do you think you'll wear the dress in transition seasons on its own? It will be a different look that really makes that dress a wardrobe workhorse.

It's so fun to see you Southern Hemisphere ladies in your winter wardrobes. Like getting a preview of autumn and winter fashion for us Northern gals.

Left me speechless, both! Again!! I just wish me stronger specs, to see better the details of your so very exciting all black, textured, and layered outfits! OMG, YLK2K every single day!:-)

You've mastered drape and proportions, Deborah.  With dramatic clothing items, it takes a bit of trial and error to learn how to make them play well together -- you are now the drape-master!  I would imagine that the subtle movement in your clothes is terrific IRL.

I love your style Deb. Full stop. It is uniquely yours and that's what I love the most - you are true to yourself.

Both outfits illustrate masterful layering that results in outfits that are visually interesting, flattering and funky.

    Taking notes here...

Cheryle, thank you!  I really liked that combo as well.  It was comfy and warm... very easy to wear.

Maneera, I honestly just try things as the ideas come to me.  Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't :)

Aliona, yes when it warms up I will definitely wear the dress on it's own.  I think for Spring it will be nice with some jewelry and open toe ankle boots :)

Lyn, thank you!  I tried to over expose one pic so the layers were clear but not sure it helped:)

Beth Ann, thank you.  Such a lovely compliment.  I think movement is important with layering so fabrics are really important.

Shannon, thank you!  I really do feel I have now 'found' myself stylewise.  That doesn't mean I wont evolve but I think I may now have the foundational elements of my style pretty set :)

You kill me.  I really don't know what to say, the way you combine things is just... amazing.

So, so fab! You make black really work for you! The textures add interest, and the drape is divine.

    Fab & cosy :)

Loving the shapes and silhouettes; I could not see much of the detail on my screen sadly.  You truly are a master of layer and drape.

Looking Good Deborah!! ( I wish I could tolerate wearing 3/4 sleeves under things - it annoys me and it cuts out so many dress/top options)

  • Brooklyn replied 8 years ago

Love :) I am continually amazed at how you can take an all black colour palette and make it so interesting with the use of different layers and textures. Love the volume on the dress in no 1 too.

Layering level EXPERT! I would so copy this dress sweater combo if I a) had access to your shops, and b) had the neck to pull it off with a scarf. Am bookmarking nonetheless ;-)

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

Elizabeth you make me blush.  Thanks:) I think dressing is where my creativity must come out.  I am not really artistic or creative otherwise:)

Kiwigal, I have to work on photographing black clothing.

Anne that usually annoys me to, but they kind of stayed put under the sweater :)

Brookly, thank you!  What can I say.. I just LOVE black:)

Dashielle, this dress would look awesome on you.  I wrapped the scarf two times to create the length and bulk but I usually only wrap it once and it falls a little lower.  Totally doable for you;)

  • Shelly replied 8 years ago

Deborah, I love all of the looks and especially the interest the bag adds.

Although I must say I am really looking forward to some spring weather and not having to wear so many layers :)

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

Hi Shelly, are you in Aus? I love winter but this one has been cold and I am starting to really look forward to Spring:)
