WIW: B&W Stripes & Spots

Hi Ladies:)

Worn to church this morning.

Black Ponte Skirt

Black Top w White Dots

Black & White Striped Jacket

Sheer Black Hose

Black Boots & Bag

This is the first outing for the striped jacket. I bought it months ago but it's taken a bit for me to get used to the look. I found putting block white or black under the jacket wasn't exciting for me, so I bought the spotted top specifically with this jacket in mind. I don't find the top overly flattering alone but I did purchase it as a layering piece. It's actually tunic length but I kind of scrunched it up:)

How does it all work? Your feedback is much appreciated.

Hope you are all having a lovely weekend.

xxx Deborah

i love the stripes with the dots. Bridges the gap between white and black and black of the skirt.

    So classy as usual :)

Gorgeous! I love the stripes with the dots. Glad you brought the jacket out to play! I don't know HOW you wear black so beautifully, but you do. No wonder it is tough for you to look to other colours. Even though you look gorgeous in those colours, too!

I'm with Suz! Black and Blonde works beautifully on you, Deborah. Love the happy mix of patterns.

OMG that jacket is perfection! Lovely outfit. So classy!

You must wear that jacket more often -it is perfect on you.

  • pil replied 11 years ago

Very sharp - that jacket is fabulous!

I really like you in this jacket, and you're right - the dotted top underneath is the perfect layering piece for it! Smart girl ; )

I like how the white stripes lighten up your black outfit.

Yay - the striped jacket comes out to play! :) Great thinking pairing dots with stripes. Funny how we start to think of our previous "go-to's" as boring, right? I'm sure solid black or white would look terrific with this jacket, but the dots certainly elevate the whole look beautifully!

I love the subtle dots of your top under this jacket. Super flattering pattern mix with the jacket. I love that the jacket is 50% white (because the stripes are equal size). This will be great for you going into spring, too!

This works beautifully together Deborah - love the pattern mixing! And that striped jacket is beyond fab on you.

Thanks ladies, I am happy this got the thumbs up. I felt good in it and very me.

Suz and Vicki I have recently had a bit of an internal conflict taking place with respect to wearing black and white versus color and I have just decided that I love black and white and just because I do want to include more color doesn't mean I have to forsake my beloved b & w.

Zap, Shevia, Pil, thanks so much.

Sarah I felt quite risque with my pattern mixing, subtle I know but a bit of a step for me.

Christy, yes it is funny isn't it. I think I am just so inspired by the clever and interesting combinations and ideas I see here that sometimes the more classic combinations can feel a bit bland, even though I don't really believe they are.

Claire this is the jacket I mentioned in one of your posts a while back.. it has taken that long to feel confident in my styling of it.

    Shannon, thank you!

A lovely jacket Deborah, and did you notice that the scrunch at your elbow creates a very appealing zig-zag effect too?

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Thanks Lyn. I would love to say yes that effect with the scrunch was clever and intentional but it wasn't lol.. just had a look at what you mean and it is kind of cute.

Love the pattern mixing! I like how the jacket reads as fairly light. (I'm thinking selfishly about my thread about how to wear black this fall.) This jacket points to exactly what you and others were saying -- that if you wear black prints it will not be so intense or potentially unflattering. I think you look great in black btw. Your hair stands out beautifully, and you wear lipstick which looks great with black clothing.

I LOVE that blazer on you, Debs. Wow! An 11 out of 10. It's great for Spring too. With white bottoms.

Great outfit! You look chic and polished as ever.
