WIW : Blackout!

Hi Fab Ones!

No surprise here I am sure!

One of the things I often think about is how to replicate my winter looks in summer friendly versions. Winter is my season of choice and hot summers that limit layering opportunities can get me down a little.

My winter version of this would be closed in boots, ponte pants and a long sleeve oversized sweater. I felt this was a good summer translation of a winter look:)

Outfit is as simple as it gets. Skinny black pants (Katies), fluid button down shirt (Jeans West) and open toe ankle boots (Rubi). Accessorized with silver and white necklace and silver rings and silver stud earrings. I always forget to take pics with my handbags but this bag is deserving of a picture. It is by Sandler and its such a fun bag for an all black outfit. It's one of those items that makes me feel very glam lol.

This is one of two button down shirts I own. I find button downs are best for me in soft draped fabrications rather than the crisp version. Far kinder to my bust area :) And with my shorter hair, I am loving the look of the collar done up:)

This outfit had a very high happiness factor, and I felt great as I delivered training in it today.

I should have linked to Angie's blog post but I think this outfit also demonstrates Angie's point about the slimming factor of fluid fits:)

Thanks for looking and your thoughts, opinions, suggestions for improvement are much appreciated.

xxx Deborah

P.s. Glad I felt great cos I was notified today that both my chefs for our community meal are out of action tomorrow... in trouble shooting mode now working out he we will get a meal on the table. Prayers, positive thoughts all very welcome :) x

Great look! I too appreciate the bust-friendliness of a fluid fit vs. more tailored, stiff button downs--a good tip to keep in mind!

Best of luck in your troubleshooting!

Gorgeous! This is so very you, and I love the unexpectedness of the bag.

Hope you can sort out the community meals! Otherwise, will it be mum's spaghetti bol for a hundred?

Genius transition outfit ... :) Love the super fluid button down shirt .. it pulls at my heart strings, because that's how I love my button downs too :)  The necklace with it is a fun touch!

You know .. when doing good things, somehow always everything just magically falls in place.  I am sure it will for you too :)  Good luck x

This is gorgeous, Deborah. The devil really is in the detail, isn't it? The curved hem on the shirt, the necklace and  the peep-toe booties just make this spectacular! Hope you find a solution - maybe some local restaurants might be prepared to donate some man-power?

Stunning!  I love the addition of the necklace and the bag.  They both lighten up the outfit just enough.  The necklace in particular pulls focus to lovely you.

Sending positive thoughts your way about a chef :)
Love the outfit, the bag adds texture & the necklace leads my eye to your lovely face.

Wow, this is a K2K outfit, again, Deb! Love the seasonal transition strategy you applied here. And, I agree about the softer button downs-they make a great difference to a fuller bustline-just bought one which am finally pleased with(and it's white!:-)). That bag is a statement for sure, and your outfit is the perfect (but oh so refined and sophisticated) background for showcasting it! Love the shoes, too!

Came back to ask (as am so mesmerized with those side detailes on your fluid fit shirt).  Do you have any hips, Debs? And is your shoulder line narrow? I have larger hips, and a strong shoulder line:-((+the boobs.-)) and always worrying that a shirt with similar details will make me a box. But it's soooo so flattering on you!!

Your chef is on the way...look for him to arrive...
I love the black, short sleeve perfect pants wonder..and while I am loving it can I sneak that lovely bag out the door...That one is TDF...All of this is set off by your haircut which is just ah...maz...ing...
    Thanks for sharing...

Truly terrific outfit and excellent choice of the necklace and bag. I hope the meal crisis was sorted!

Deborah - sorry for all the stress and I will be praying for culinary deliverance. But may I just say that stress seems to agree with you. I can't pin it down but you look particularly beautiful dangit baby faced young. Are you blonder with darker roots? Don't mind me but you just look so fab in this outfit. Elegant, flattering and I love the buttoned collar and necklace. The bag is totally fun, but you know, the outfit is so great I'm just crushing on the black. Good luck with everything and may the force be with you!!

I really like how the necklace and the bag breaks up the black, Debs. And these are super silhouettes on you. xo

    This is fabulous!

    Simply gorgeous.

What Denise and Angie said. I adore this -- I actually like it the better for the relative lightness of the fabrications, as well. This increases the fluidity -- I can sense it even in a still photo. I love the booties -- they are fab. And the necklace is stunning! I need to get something like that. Is it an Etsy find?

As for the bag -- wowza! LOVE it!!!

I could not agree more about the fun of doing a top button up with short hair. :)

Hi Deborah, are you wearing a light vest over the shirt, or does it have an interesting hem-line?
I love your all-black outfits, but sometimes the well-thought-out details are lost in the pics- or maybe I just need new specs :)
Agree with everyone that this is another spectacular outfit, and I do admire your seeking out the very best pieces at a variety of stores shown here!

Love the bag & necklace with it. The layers fit & proportions are just as fab as your Winter versions.

  • AJ replied 9 years ago

Great summer transition! I also like the accessories to lighten the look up a bit.  I'm assuming this is a stay indoor look.  How would you do a blackout for the outdoors? :)

  • Beth Ann replied 9 years ago

Love the top, Deborah -- it's fluid, but it has a nice structure, too.  The collar is such a lovely from for your hair and face.

Well good news, myself and my co-coordinator at the meal took over the kitchen and with our team cooked up a storm. Big day and very tired but worth the extra effort :) Thanks all for your thoughts and prayers. We were blessed to have 4 extra volunteer from Youth With a Mission (YWAM) today and they were amazing. One of the guys was from Hawaii:)

Sharon, the devil is indeed in the detail and I think I am really learning how to apply that thinking with my black outfits.

Lyn67, sorry to take so long to get back. I am an hourglass / apple. I do have hips but not like a pear. I don't think my shoulders are broad, maybe average? The shirt is cut like a square and has a drape a the sides. The fabric is what stops it from looking boxy I think. If I wore the same shirt in a crisp cotton it would look very different:)

crutcher, you are always so complimentary, thank you!

Gryffin, thank you! I am now having foils in my hair so no longer an all over colour, but recently I damaged my hair and have some breakage on the top layer. I think that is causing the look of darker at the roots, which I don't mind, I am just trying to work with it and make it look intentional :)

Suz, the necklace from either Lovisa or Equip. I can't quite remember. Both are stores that have inexpensive costume jewellery. It's a little more trendy than most of my jewellery but I really like it.

Thanks all, I really liked this outfit and I can't wait to wear it again. The fun will be in changing around my shoes and accessories.
