Red Semi Slouchy Pants Yay or Nay

Hi Ladies,

Sorry I've not been around much the last couple of days. Work and family commitments have kept me of line :(

I need your advice. These pants are Howard Showers in a pure wool ( not to heavy but Autumn / Winter weight pants).

Do these work? Is there too much scrunch at the ankle? Pls note these are not styled and it's just the pants I need your feedback on:)

These were more of a wide straight leg but I have tapered the leg (my second project on my new little sewing machine). Oh and the pants were thrifted so no loss if I am in fairy land and these don't work at all.

Your honesty appreciated.

xxx Deborah

Congrats on your sewing skills! Slouchy pants are so new to me Deborah and totally out of my comfort zone, so I guess I'm not much of help, but love the colour---and will pay attention on what others say for this topic, as I always come here to learn.

Personally I love slouchy pants and I wish I could pull them off, maybe when I'm skinnier one day! I do have to say though that the shoe throws me off, my eye needs a stiletto and a tailored top with it to work. But kudos on the bold color!

I love those pants and think they totally work. I would also pair them with some daintier/higher shoes.

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Thanks Tanya! I just put these shoes on for the photo. If the pants work then I will seriously consider how to style them:)

The color is excellent. I think the part you tapered and the scrunch look great. I just can't tell what is going on with the top part because they are covered with the top. So it depends on how you will style them and where your top falls - but they do look promising.

Thanks Shevia:). I plan to wear fitted tops over the pants, covering the tummy. A little like Parsley has done with hers. These are smooth and fitted over the tummy, not pleated like a true slouchy pant:)

I love the color, and the length looks good to me. I wonder though if they should be a little more tapered through the calf?

  • replied 11 years ago

Wow, you have a good eye Deborah (and a good hand with your new machine!). I think you did a really good job with the tapers and the slouch looks about right to me. The length seems perfect as well. Let's see what Angie says.

    Good point CF:)

Claire thanks! I studied Shannon and Parsley's slouchy pants and followed their lead:). I haven't sewn for years but I'm keen to be able to do some of my own alterations.

The ankle opening looks perfect to me. but I agree that the lower leg should be narrowed more.

I wonder what happends if you DO pin up the hem and get rid of some scrunch -- so the calves can hang rather than blouse?

Fun pants and don't you just love repurposing perfectly good pieces :-)

I did wonder about not seeing the slouchy top part. I usually think of that as part of the slouchy trouser look. But I should go look up Parsley's thread. . .

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

    These trousers are a 10!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

You clever thing you! You have made these pants into perfect slouchy, perfect length trousers!

  • Parsley replied 11 years ago

A big YAY from me! (but you probably could have guessed that)

I'm honored to have you following my lead; usually I'm following yours- you have such fantastic style!

I just love what you've done with those pants, and can't wait to see how you style them. I would wear those in a heartbeat!

    Sharp!

  • christieanne replied 11 years ago

Loving the red and impressed that you would make these over on your own - clever!!

  • Kirti replied 11 years ago

    Yay yay yay :-)

They are beautiful! And how versatile and perfect for your wardrobe! Yay for thrifting + sewing skills!

You are SO clever. What a great find (and creation.)

A triple-crown winner: you've got the style touch, sewing touch and thrift touch. Love that color, too.

  • annagybe replied 11 years ago

    I like them.

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

I LOVE the color and the fit! How did you thrift such cool pants?

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

    Big yay from me!

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Goodness, thank you so much all. I was really nervous posting these. Sewing is certainly not one of my strengths and I make sure I took the time and did them properly and carefully.

Angie, I can't believe the pants are a 10!!! Thank you for chiming in. I really want to try this look but slouchy pants haven't arrived on our shores yet.

Parsley, Shannon & Aida, I actually studied each of your slouchy pants posts before I started on these. Having the visuals makes such a difference.

These pants don't have the pleats at the tummy and that was one of the things that attracted to me to them as I know for me the pleats will make me very self conscious of my tummy, and then I remembered that Parsley wore here tops over her pants so I figured these might work.

So once I work out how to style them (I have one outfit idea already) I will post them as part of a 'proper' outfit.

Thanks again, I so appreciate your feedback. xxx
