Lime Love?

Hi Ladies,

I bought this with part of my May Madness SYC thrifting budget!

It's a knit jacket in what I think you would call lime :). It's in excellent condition (as new) and, (Aussie girls no laughing) it's by Fella Hamilton which is a beautiful label aimed at women my mum's age!!

Now is probably the time to confess to a love of "old lady jackets"!!

I was attracted to the simplicity of the jacket, the color, the shape and the streamline of it.

My intent is to wear it over black and keep it all very simple. I have had a play and #1 and #2 are just my initial ideas for styling.

WDYT? Can I wear this color? Does it work? Do I look like I'm wearing an old lady jacket? Frump factor? I haven't left the house in this yet :)

Really appreciate your opinions

xxx

Deborah

Ps... I love it, but need to know if I have lost my mind:) and if I have you need to tell me!

I love the simplicity of it also! And nothing could look old lady when paired with those high black boots. With your sleek, minimalist style and black color scheme this works for me.

The jacket works with he simple pearls and the scarf. It's such a statement piece simple is best and it certainly doesn't look like an old lady Jacket at all.

Deborah, I'm pretty sure the colour and the bold combination with black (as opposed to a paler, wishy-washy neutral) militates against any datedness! LOVE this on you, especially with the scarf.

Its gorgeous, I think you really know what suits you!

    So far so good!

Ginko, Kiwichik, Mani & Jen thanks so much for your thoughts and I'm thrilled you think this works. I figured if it didn't I could always give it to my mum, but I think the color would be too much for her lol :)

It really looks like what I would call a cardi from here. Is it a knit or a woven fabric? Very pretty! I never would have guessed it's from a "mature" label. Paired with all basic black, it really pops. Lovely!

I love the lime Deborah, and I doubt Fella Hamilton would have styled it like this. You bring in some edge with your boots and skinnies and popped collar, and the effect is gorgeous.

Just goes to show, styling makes all the difference! I like the way you've put it with edgier pieces to take away any old-lady factor.

    Deborah!
It ooks perfectly lovely! It really is all how you style it and you have done a wonderful job in both photos. Couldn't you do the same thing combining it with cream? I mean I know black makes it "pop" but cream would be a nice way to bring it into your closet during the much warmer months.

It looks great to me as you styled it - no "old lady" vibe at all, crisp and structured.

  • cheryl replied 11 years ago

I love it! You look fantastic :)

NOT old lady, no way. I like it with the black, and it would look really fresh and crisp with white in summer, say if you need something in the air conditioning. I wonder what it would look like with a belt underneath the knit jacket just to emphasize your waist more? The necklace and scarf are both nice touches to add another lighter element.

That styling of the sharp boots makes it anything but frumpy!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

I really like the jacket, Deborah! Do not prefer it with black though as it takes away from the freshness of the colour. To my eye, it needs to be paired with softer colours like blue and white.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Oooh - put it with cobalt!!

And do you have any greys for fall? Or eggplant type colours?

I don't think it looks a BIT old lady. You'll get cross seasonal wear from it, too.

You could never look like an old lady! :) I think it's a great jacket and I really like how you've styled it here. I love the idea of pairing it with white - but maybe that's too summery as you are heading into fall? In any case, I really like it and no, you have not lost your mind!

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

Not frumpy! I would never have guessed it's from an old-lady brand.

Your fab styling will keep this pretty jacket from entering "old lady" Deborah! I love Angie's idea of pairing it with white - it would be so fresh looking. Would also look great with dark wash denim.

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Late here but I l love it! Very Eileen Fisher at her best.

  • christieanne replied 11 years ago

I like that color so much. Can you pair with chambray, gray or white? It's sort of minimalist with the black but so dark for you.

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

I don't see anything old lady about this jacket, and I think you look great here. I would like to see it with some of the lighter colors suggested above.

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

    Yay! I'm not crazy:)

I love the idea of pairing this with lighter colors.

Meredith great suggestions, and Kyle I thought about a belt and I will try that:)

Angie, you are the expert and I will try what you suggest. I think it could great with my white jeans but it's toomcold here for them at the moment. I will try a column of denim under it, or even my ink blue blouse and see how it looks. I do understand what you ar
    e saying about the black:)

Suz, I have almost no grey in my wardrobe. With my cobalt jeans would be wild, what about over my red jeans???

Christy thanknyou for affirming my sanity.

Denise this label is not cheap and my mum has some lovely suits, pants and jackets from this label and she always looks lovely, but there is something in the cut that is more
for the mature woman. Having said that, some of their older pieces, found in thrift stores can be quite retro and very cool looking.

Una, I don't know Eileen Fisher but I'm off to google her, thanks.

Christieanne, thank you, im going to try your suggestions. Looks like I may need to add some grey to my closet?

Shevia, thank you and it looks like lighter colors are the go:)

  • lyn67 replied 11 years ago

Love it with the scarf, but as Angie said this would work even better with whites in the summer!

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Thanks Lyn, yes I am seeing it work really well for summer but given we are just heading to winter I am hoping to wear it sooner rather than later :)

  • rute replied 11 years ago

I love this look! I prefer with the scarf!
