WIW : with thanks to Lyn D

A little while back Lyn D very kindly bought me a Coatigan that I couldn't get in my size locally. I had originally walked away from it but returned after thinking about it for a few days having realised that it could actually be a great addition to my wardrobe. Sadly, they had sold out:(

And then Lyn came to the rescue (perhaps shopping for others is one of Lyn's super powers?) and managed to get the medium for me in Melbourne.

Well I have felt poorly that I haven't actually posted it. I have been wearing it quite a bit and my favourite combination is with this white draped top.

Worn today over my black jeans and ankle boots with white drape top. This has been a bit of a go to outfit on my days off. It's quite warm and extremely comfortable and has a faux leather trim.

Lyn, thank you so much. I wanted you to know how much i appreciated it and how much I am enjoying wearing it.

Critiques, styling suggestions etc, all welcome.

Thank you for looking
xxxDeborah

p.s. Movie night at my house tonight! You are all welcome of course;). Any recommendations for a family friendly movie? DS is 11, and we are a little strict;)

That jacket is incredible - looks fantastic Deb and how sweet of Lyn. Love that white top as well - is that a Metalicus piece? Gorgeous.

Gosh my DS is 19 now so I have no idea what to choose for an 11 year old anymore.

  • Deborah replied 9 years ago

Thanks Shannon. Top is from an Aussie store called "Katies". Speaking of Metalicus, I have worn my new black drape top twice already this week;).

Movie wise DS wants to watch Camel Spiders or Zombieland...I'm laughing out loud, because there is no way haha. Good on him for trying :). We often do movie night on Fridays and we are running out of ideas.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 9 years ago

Yeah, Zombieland is waaaaaay too explicit for 11. I've seen it and loved it (I have a strange affection for all things zombie) but I don't think DS watched it until he was 16 or so.

Love that jacket on you Deborah! And the white tunic with and without it. How wonderful of Lyn to send it! Movie wise, have you seen Hugo?

  • Alana in Canada replied 9 years ago

Love that coatigan. So wonderful of LynD to find you one! No clue about movies.

  • Elizabeth P replied 9 years ago

Wonderful coatigan Deborah, it's perfect for you. How nice of Lyn. Fabbers all over the world seem to help each other out, isn't it great.

  • bj1111 replied 9 years ago

lovely lovely coat and lovely lovely Lyn D

  • Deborah replied 9 years ago

Shevia, will look up Hugo.. thank you!

Shannon, I also love zombies, vampires and crime! You can imagine how hard it is saying no to an 11 year old when they know you love that stuff lol.

And yes Lyn is lovely!! You all need to fly over for a Aus meet up and meet her :)

Dumb and Dumber...so stupid it's hilarious!  Great coatigan!

  • misapb replied 9 years ago

Pink Panther 1963 with Peter Sellers.  It has the slapstick kind of humor that 11  year-old boys love.  I don't remember there being anything in appropriate, and we watched in my 6th grade classroom (it was 1985, granted).

Awesome jacket.  You are one stylish forward-fashioned mama!

  • MsLuna replied 9 years ago

It's always such a treat seeing your WIW's Deborah! I'm especially loving the white top but the jacket/cardi looks amazing with the outfit!

  • LAR101 replied 9 years ago

    Love the outfit.

    Movies:
    http://www.commonsensemedia.org/
    https://www.commonsensemedia.o.....gory/movie

I  would second the old Pink Panther
    The Borrowers
My girls like anything by Studio Ghibli but they don't think a boy would like anything so heartwarming, and sweet  - also slow for a movie
The secret world of Arietta, Totoro, Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service, etc
    The Lego Movie
    Disney - old and new
oldies: Wizard of Oz, Mary Poppins, Star Wars

Great outfit Deborah. Looove the coatigan, I really must look in Katies more often!

  • Lyn D. replied 9 years ago

    Blushing :)
I am so glad that this has been working for you Deborah- I wasn't sure if it had worked out or not- but see now that it looks really, really FAB!
And, I have found the same thing as you with the navy cardigan that fell into my arms when I bought yours- it has been worn such a lot for an un-planned purchase :)

  • Deborah replied 9 years ago

Thanks for your lovely comments ladies. And thank you for the fab movie recommendations. I am about to goole and preview. Thanks so much:)

Lyn it kept crossing my mind that I hadn't reported back on the Coatigan. Wearing out today for a coffee and meeting, I was complimented on it and asked where I got it!!

  • Lantana replied 9 years ago

The coatigan has your name written all over it. I can well imagine it has been a work horse. And your black jeans gave me an ah ha moment. That's something I can do with tween seasons.
I am favouriting this thread due to the movie recommendations. We have a bakers dozen of grandchildren and now they're heading for their teens I need to keep abreast of what is appropriate and enjoyable for them.
Bridge to Terabithia is one that you should preview first but it does raise issues of imagination, friendship and loss that you might want to explore with your boy.

  • Deborah replied 9 years ago

Lantana, we haven't seen that one yet, but it looks interesting:).

Missey thanks for the links, that's brilliant.

We are downloading Muppets Most Wanted;). I wanted to watch Noah with Russell Crowe so might download and watch with DH after M11 has gone to bed lol. I now have a list of movies for upcoming movie nights..thank you;)

  • Lucy replied 9 years ago

That is a gorgeous jacket, and just perfect on you! I love it.

Last time we had movie night, we watched The Lion THe Witch and the Wardrobe, which we all enjoyed. Also some of the Percy Jackson movies are PG. We are strict on the PG as our son is only nine, but gee, a lot of movies aimed at boys are getting rated M atm, which is a shame....

  • Caro in Oz replied 9 years ago

YLF Deborah & so nice of Lyn to find it for you.
I have the Muppet's Most Wanted on my list too it looks like fun.

  • Ingunn replied 9 years ago

Beautiful cardigan, Deborah. It has just the right amount of structure. I love it with the draped top, and your pearls are divine. Now I want those, too.

I only have girls, and they are not very much in favor of zombies. We have seen quite a few classics together, though, like the Godfather trilogy for example. But DS is probably a bit too young for those, too? Another favorite is Forrest Gump.

  • gryffin replied 9 years ago

Deborah - that's one of my personal favorite silhouettes - about 32-33" topper/blazer with cigarette pants plus booties.  I would tuck and wear a belt, but your top is so elegant, I wish I looked great in those drapy tops, really stunning!!  Kudos to Lyn D on being super shopper and great friend!!  Gorgeous on you!!

On movies is LOTR too violent?  "Star Wars" sure you've seen them all as well ast "Pirates of the Carribean", if you haven't seen Mulan, Hercules, Sinbad, all oldies but goodie.  "A Few Good Men" has language issues but the story is excellent, as is the "Hunt for Red October"  "Searching for Bobby Fischer" is super especially if you guys have any interest in chess, but it's just a great film.  "National Treasure" films, "Night at the Museum" films, "War Games," "Short Circuit," "Space Camp," "Willow," "The Princess Bride," "Mrs Doubtfire," I dig into the archive of films we watched at that age.  If you like oldies "Dave" and the "American President" are great films too.  But I'm not sure where you draw the line at content, so you'd need to review.

That coatigan is a fab addition for you Deb. I love the leather pieces and edging. Styled fabulously as usual. You look great! So nice of Lyn to help you out.

  • Mona replied 9 years ago

The coatigan is awesome on you. Looks killer with that drapey top. Hope you had a fun movie night.

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

    Killer

You KNOW you had me with the white. xo

  • lyn67 replied 9 years ago

That coatigan is a hit! I just want it, too:-). Thanx to Lyn now you are a lucky girl Debs, I'm glad you finally ended to put your little paws on it,-it's a statement current piece, and esp love it with that white drape blouse, the pants, and the bootieds. Earings also lovely!

One more movie recommendation for kids:
"Ernest and Celestine"  - I mention it because you might not know.   I don't know how my girls (12 & 16 ) found it.

Thinking about this again, here are a few more:
We also recently watched "The Amazing Mr. Fox"  -loved but there is some  questionable content so maybe no.  Some went over the younger's head.
My kids also loved:  "How to Train Your Dragon"
"The Secret Life of Walter Mitty"" 2013 - not specifically kids
Old musicals:  "Annie" . "Mary Poppins", "Sound of Music"

  • Lynne replied 9 years ago

Fab!  I love your shorter bob, too :).

  • Sheila replied 9 years ago

I really like the grecian goddess look in the second to the last pic.  All are great though !
