WIW : To Surprise A Friend

Hi Ladies,

Lovely cold day in downtown Bendigo:)

I am enjoying the navy/black combo!  Today I wore:

Basque Navy Crossback Sweater
Metalicus Black Hub Triangle Top
Target Ponte Leggings
Target Zip Feature Ankle Boots
Navy/Teal Gauzey Infinity Scarf.
- Topped with the infamous Spiegel Draped Leather Jacket (not shown)

Thanks for looking.  I quite liked that the scarf and sweater don't exactly match, yet tonally seem to work together.

xxx Deborah

The "surprise a friend" part for those interested.. I realise this is getting a bit lengthy:)

A month or so ago, myself and 2 friends had a day out shopping and we saw this beautiful sweater that was just made from one the girls.  She tried it on, stunning, but $$$$ and totally beyond her budget she very sadly walked away.  Well my other friend and I have been stalking the said sweater on line and when it dropped to just under $100 we pounced, nabbing the last one in her size :)

I have known this girl casually for the past 10 years and she and her family relocated to our town 6 months ago.  She has been having the same struggles both myself and our other friend have experienced upon moving here, so we really wanted to encourage her and bless her.  What better way than coffee, cake and clothes!  There were tears all round and she was just so thrilled.  It was a lovely afternoon.  Oh and she looks way better in the sweater than the model.  #4 is the catalogue photo of the sweater:)

OMG, this is so touching! Klaping hands of joy, love when that happens, you are such great friends all the 3 girls! And, your layering is each day better and better! Navy and black+ scarf is gorgeous on you, too!:-)

    What a lovely story.
I really love this outfit Deborah especially the layering of the hemlines and the 2 blue tones. I think this is one of my faves of yours!

  • Helen11 replied 8 years ago

What a beautiful thing to do for your friend.
As always, you look stunning. I love the navy/teal top and scarf, the colours are wonderful together. Is the scarf recent? (As in, could I copy you and find one for myself, please?)

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

Helen yes the scarf is a recent purchase.  I will have to chase up the brand for you.  It doesn't have a tag and I don't think I kept the swing tag.  I got it from my friend's shoe store ... will get back to you:)  I have it in black too.

  • Helen11 replied 8 years ago

Thanks, Deborah. Sounds like it's from an independent line of accessories, I fear it would be a wild goose chase to track it down. So please don't take up your time . Unless you were going to the shoe shop anyway ;-).

Beautiful outfit Deborah, and what a great story :)

  • Jaime replied 8 years ago

Lovely story and the blue of the scarf is particularly beautiful on you!

  • Joyce B replied 8 years ago

    Gorgeous outfit and lovely story!

  • dakotacheryl replied 8 years ago

Blue and Black Combo is fantastic.

And your generosity and friendship makes for a lovely story...thanks for sharing!!

What a lovely story, and what good friends you are!

Love your blue/back outfit and what a lovely sweater that is. The scarf looks great with it and the proportions of the sweater look good with the underneath layer too.

Oh Deborah - I've said it before and I'll say it again...you have such a beautiful heart :) What a lovely story about your friend and the sweater.

Now onto your outfit...LOVE LOVE LOVE! This is absolutely perfect layering IMHO. There is nothing bulky - everything just sort of skims and drapes over the other item. The asymmetry is gorgeous and you know I adore black and blue together.

I notice you're wearing more scarves as of late. You're making me think about trying some scarves with some of my outfits come fall.

  • Maneera replied 8 years ago

The outfit is lovely Deb. But you...you're such a beautiful beautiful person, both inside and outside. You constantly amaze me....and inspire me in so many ways. I'm sure your friend was very touched and very thankful to have you in her life....

  • Elizabeth P replied 8 years ago

You are an amazing woman Deborah... how sweet of you.

And this OUTFIT!  The layers of blue are just beautiful.  Bookmarking this idea for winter for sure... I don't have the pieces, but I have the colours, so we'll see what I come up with!

  • frannieb replied 8 years ago

So of course the oufit is fab but the story and you kindness is even fabber.

  • TraceyLiz65 replied 8 years ago

I love the navy and black and the layers.  As for your story, tearing up. Your generosity is wonderful.  I help my dearest friend with clothing for her Spring B'day and Christmas as she is a single mother and know very well the joy it brings to her, not to mention the self esteem as she wears them.. Prior to my stepping in she'd been getting cast offs from friends for 7 years and had no clothes that were really her style!  Truth is I watched my mother do this for someone and am just living her legacy.
You and your friends are so blessed and I wish all women had wonderful friendships!

What a really lovely story. It warms my heart.
Your outfit is perfect! I love the way you show us your nail polish.

What a lovely sweet thing to do! And YLF!

  • Lyn D. replied 8 years ago

I love your scarf and sweater too!
Bet she was so touched that you both remembered how lovely she looked and bought it for her. We are having perfect weather for cosy jumpers and boots!

  • Aida replied 8 years ago

Gorgeous! The outfit and the lady wearing it, inside and out. How wonderfully sweet of you and your friend! As for the outfit, the layering is superb, both in terms of the actual garment ends as well as the colors. Love that bright blue polish, too ^^

  • Bijou replied 8 years ago

I love your outfit, you look stunning (as always).  You are a master of mixing layers.  I'm sure your friend will cherish her jumper forever, what a wonderful and special gift.

  • E replied 8 years ago

Your outfit is just so perfect & stunning! And then the story was so sweet too. It'll be like wearing a hug whenever she pulls the sweater on. :D

  • Cococat replied 8 years ago

Fantastic outfit Deborah. The layering is just perfect.I would love to try layering like this. Are there any 'rules' to layering? I guess I just need to play.

What a lovely thing to do for your friend. She would have been over the moon!

    <3

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

CocoC, no rules:). I think it's just getting the proportions right and that can be different between people, due to the individual's size, height, body type. Have a play. It's lots of fun.

Have a look at this on Pinterest for inspiration xx

Oh, Deb, what a gorgeous story!  Your friend will smile every time she sees the sweater remembering your kindness.  I love your outfit, the shine on the scarf gives a lovely interest to the monochromatic outfit.  I've just seen on this evenings news that your part of Australia is due for more Arctic weather.....stay warm!

  • Cococat replied 8 years ago

Thank you for the link Deborah. What fabulous ideas. I have saved a few to try.

I'm not really sure if I have the right pieces. I'm always afraid of looser things because I think that they will be unflattering on me. I do have a fabulous complex geometries piece that would be great for layering but I'm not sure how to style it. It's very short in the front (at my waist) and very long at the back. I need to play....

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

CocoC we must be long lost sisters!!  Next to RO, Complexgeometries is my other fashion obsession!  I have the Square Hooded Top/Dress (can't remember it's proper name) and another top with ladders (as in stocking ladders) and can be worn a number of ways.*sigh*

I also have a lot of layered looks on my pin boards  https://www.pinterest.com/dagates/

  • CocoLion replied 8 years ago

What a sweet story.  You are very kind!  Love your layering talents, you always get the proportions and details right.

I didn't respond on my thread to your question about the pale grey dress.  It is from Pure DKNY via eBay.

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

Thanks Denise.  And apologies for being so nosey!!  It's a stunning dress and could easily be mistaken for RO.  It looked so fabulous on you :)

  • Cococat replied 8 years ago

Followed....and repinning the eye candy. :-)

Yes, I think we were long lost sisters! RO, Helmut Lang, Complex Geometries, All Saints, are all favourites. I just don't have the courage, or knack or places to wear some of these looks....so the pieces languish forlornly in my wardrobe. However, you are inspiring me!

My CG top is a lot like this one, except it's black and cut up to the waist at the front. Perhaps I could wear it over a plain black tank dress.

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

That is an amazing top/tunic/thing :)  Definitely wear it over a tank dress:)  Or how about skinny black pants a fine top (something a little longer thank the CG top) layered under the CG top in a colour to contrast the black? You must wear this;)

  • Cococat replied 8 years ago

Thanks Deborah. I'm going to try your pants idea. I'm sorry to hijack your thread!

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

Hijack away!  I can talk RO and CG styling all day x

  • Elly replied 8 years ago

I love the combo of ink and navy and the floaty avant garde layers. Looking great, Deborah. Plus, you really are a sweet friend.

  • judy replied 8 years ago

I'm inspired by your creative use of different hemlines on top!  Looks great on you.  Such a sweet story of shopping friendship too.

  • Caro in Oz replied 8 years ago

Sorry for the late response - just had to comment.
You are gorgeous inside & out :)

  • Sveta replied 8 years ago

Such a lovely story Deborah - thank you for making my day!
I know, you are Queen Black but I LOVE you in blue. The layering and the draping is pure Deborah of course - sublime!
