WIW : To Decide Keep/Toss

Happy Tuesday!

I wore this shirt today because it is an "undecided' item in my wardrobe. Haven't worn it this year at all, yet I love the pattern. I kind of like the idea of wearing a lady like blouse with a pussy bow, with jeans but I just don't know about this. I think in general it looked 'fine' but is it me?

As you know I don't really wear pattern and I am wondering if cutting this up into a scarf might be a better idea, or I could try layering it under a grey oversized draped top with a high low hem, with a skinny leg.

Worth trying, or should I it just go?

Thanks for taking a look
xxx Deborah

I think the high low hem makes it look current. I think the pattern/colors are nice on you but it doesn't have your usual drama. It is nice to have some flattering options in the closet for those days you just want something different. I'd definitely let it hang around a little longer!

I second Kelly in everything she said!

It seems pretty, but much softer in color" value" and contrast than your outfit. Maybe it's the lighting, but not sure it really complements your black and gray palette in the right way. Would you be wearing with white, or denim?

No Unfrumped, I wouldn't wear it with white or blue denim. I actually wondered about the tone as well. Thanks for pointing that out:)

I think it looks great, but it is definitely one of those pièces that you have to think really hard to make it look cool (or make yourself feel cool in it)... I do think the grey combo looks really good, and your idea about a grey drapey top layered over it could work well. Maybe its the collar that bothers me... I do admit there is something that would probably prevent me from wearing it as well but can't quite put my finger on it. But for what it's worth, you do look pretty fab!

I'm not sure it's really you, Deb. The palette isn't ideal with the black and grey, but more so, I think that the classic and conservative look isn't in tune with your usual dramatic and high contrast look.

PS. Big ups to Master 11! In my house that would be a photo worthy event!

I'm fascinated by your thought of cutting it up into a scarf. I've never considered that with a blouse that I was ready to let go of.  I do sew...how do you make that work?

  • christieanne replied 9 years ago

I like the concept of blouse with jeans as well but I think the color in this blouse is not high contrast enough to give you the effect you want. It's not bad, just not the Wow factor that you rock normally. If you never reach for the blouse, is it good enough to hold a space in your closet or should it go to a new home?

I agree with Kelly. Color scheme is flattering with your skin and hair, pattern is subtle but interesting, high-low shape looks current. I can see this with a black suit to soften the look, or a black or grey midi skirt, white topper and nude or white booties. Greys suggestion to try with denim or white jeans. If there's room in the closet I'd keep for the infrequent occasion that calls for something subdued.

Hmm, it doesn't seem very "you" to me.  You can probably make it work, but it might one of those pieces that's just always troublesome. I'm curious how you would make a scarf out of it too.

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

I can't see the pattern all that well, Debs - so correct me if I'm wrong. But it does look a little too warm and yellow for your complexion. And not all that fresh paired with black. I do like it with grey though.

  • shedev replied 9 years ago

It seems a little classic and conservative for your style. Are there days that you need to dress a little more classic?

    I like what Kellygirl said.

Oh and isn't it just miraculous when the kids do their homework on their own?! And you caught it on camera :)

  • Alana in Canada replied 9 years ago

    I would let it go.

I don't think the style looks very much like your current style, and the pattern is not typical of you, either. I kind of like the colors on you. I like your idea of trying it as a scarf. I'm guessing you wouldn't miss the blouse itself, if you're not reaching for it now.

  • rachylou replied 9 years ago

To me, while pretty, it's not *you.*

    What Rachy said..

  • Gracie replied 9 years ago

I can't really see the pattern and neckline, but it doesn't seem like your style. The gray jacket is fab though!  And I see Master 11 is wearing matching colors :)

  • Mo replied 9 years ago

do you hate me if I say I love everything BUT the blouse in this look? I think your intuition is right that it's not quite 'you'. The rest is fab, though!

  • Lyn D. replied 9 years ago

I like the low hemline at the rear, but not the front as much. With a black topper I would probably like it less.
My shirts/blouses are not calling to me as much this year, and like you (when the weather warms)  I will be re-assessing my collection :)

  • Caro in Oz replied 9 years ago

I was going to suggest trying it with lighter pants too - sorry :) :) I think there is too much contrast between the top & bottom of the outfit.

  • Nicole D replied 9 years ago

It's lovely but I agree with others that it's not quite in your fab league.  Pass it on.  I really like the rest of outfit - especially jacket.

  • Mita replied 9 years ago

I guess I had a different response :). I love the blouse, find it an elegant monochromatic look with your hair color, grey and black. I think the scarf is too rustic for the polish of the blouse.

  • Gigi replied 9 years ago

I think that the blouse looks OK, and there is nothing wrong with it, but it does not seem like your style to me at all. Maybe think about what it is in the pattern that you like and then try to find something similar that is more in line with your current style?

  • DonnaF replied 9 years ago

It's a very nice blouse, and I think it would work for a Deborah living in another dimension and working in a super corporate job.  But for this Deborah here?  Not her style.  Maybe consign it or something.

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

I like it in #3, but then the blouse doesn't show much with the scarf. In general, it doesn't seem to fit your current style.
