WIW : To Beat the Winter Blues

Hi Ladies,

This morning was church followed immediately by a birthday party of lunch at McDonalds and a movie (Inside Out) for one of Master 12's friends.  Needed warmth and comfort as I have been out most of the day and had an hour or so to peruse Myer (our version, tho smaller, of Nordtroms??) to see if I could use a gift certificate.

No success at Myer but that was ok.

Ponte Leggings / Target
Cowl Neck Tunic / Rockmans
Sia Cropped Waterfall Cardigan / Metalicus
Ankle Boots / Hush Puppies (I think if I was ever stuck on a dessert island and only had one pair of boots, I would want it to be these!!  - of course I realise boots on an dessert island doesn't really make sense but hey!)

Despite Winter being my favourite season, I seem to be experiencing the Winter Blues over the past few weeks:(  Started taking Vitamin D tablets, as recommended by my GP, last week and seem to be making some progress.  I think the cold, overcast days actually can get a bit much.  Anyone else feel his way.

xxx Deborah

I think the cold grey days really can get you down. Sorry to hear you're felling that way. I hope the Vit D works for you. How about exercise or walking? ( suggestion on the basis of not knowing you, and not being any role model for exercise ;) )

Helen11, exercise is a great idea. It's just too cold to walk at the moment and I suppose I have been lacking the motivation;). It's probably something I need to get back to....thanks for the nudge:)

And I forgot to say that you are rocking the black layers, as always. Metallicus should definitely employ you!

Love your outfit! You have such a keen eye for details that come together to make every outfit you wear look like it belongs on a fashion runway.

Im sorry to hear you're feeling blue. I find exercising really helps on cold, overcast days. Of course, you'll need extra motivation to make yourself go out in the cold, but believe me when I say that it works like magic. The endorphins released improve your mood and it's a great way to beat Winter Blues.

You look fab as always !!

Curious as to what temps you're having outside right now...and is this the coldest you'll get to, or are worse temps yet to come?

Here is the Black Hills of South Dakota it was 80F yesterday...just gorgeous.

Although our winter is very mild, the lack of sunlight hours still gets me down. And everyone is so sun protected these days that vitamin D deficiency is very common. But you look fantastic!

    Great outfit Deborah.

I don't like Winter much, particularly as it gets dark so quickly. Are there any exercise classes that you might like? I just started hula Polynesian dancing classes and its a really fun way to exercise. It's an effort going there after work but I'm always happy I did it.

Feeling less than great in winter is pretty common in my part of the world.  Sunlight and Vitamin D are definitely part of a plan my friends and I here in Canada subscribe to - in fact my Dr recently upped the D recommendation to 2000 mg a day instead of the usual 1000 (that's all year round) .  It's a necessity for so much more than just feeling good too .  I use a daylight desk lamp in my office , get as much exercise as possible, and watch my alcohol intake.....you know, the usual stuff :)

Love the outfit! Music helps me with the blues. I even bought a full spectrum light to use every morning and it helps. Hoping you feel better!

    Looking great!

I do know the feeling of winter blues, for me it is when we have our grey wet days. I like the cold and will exercise in it, but motivation is lower. I love the hope of spring but autumn is usually the best weather.

You look wonderful!! I am still going ga ga over the hair. And no wonder you'd want those booties on a desert island. Who wouldn't?

But I am sorry you have been feeling down. I certainly understand, coming from where I do. It's hard. I try to get outdoors during daylight hours in winter. I walk in all weathers, even -40 C, even in a blizzard. Obviously, not every day (freezing rain will even keep me inside, bleach!!) but I've found it really helps to make an effort. And there are almost no impossible weathers -- just impractical clothes. The right puffers/ hats/ mitts/ boots will do the trick. But I am not going to lie to you. I can't pretend it is fun, and it is CERTAINLY no fun dressing for it!!

I think the darkness and grey skies are why I reach for colour in my wardrobe in winter. It's hard even to do that, because it's not terribly practical (especially light colours).

I know black is your personal "happy" hue, so what helps me might make you feel even worse! But I do wonder if adding in a bit of your cobalt and your dark red might be helpful in this really dark days. Also, more of your silver statement jewellery.
