WIW : The Long Cardigan

Hi Ladies,

Loving the long cardigans that are trending this season but so many of them have been too long and/or too bulky from my petite frame :(

Bought this a couple of weeks ago.  Black and white... check!  Knee length.. check (good length for me) but I realised when I got home that is was quite A line in its cut.  So I took the side seams in and I think this works.  Wore it today for some running around before school pickup.

I am likely to always accessorize the cardigan with a scarf (either something flowy and light weight or a more chunky scarf) as I think the cardigan needs that 'something' to complete the look.

#6 is the long cardigan I bought some weeks back that I returned upon your confirmation that it looked a lot like a bathrobe lol... just for comparison.

Thanks for taking a look:)

xxx Deborah

Great cardi, love the bl&w texture and fits you well after altering the side seams! I do have the opposite problem. Last fall didn't find me a long enough cardi for my like, but we are always end of trends and am also taller:-). Accessorizing  it with a bulky scarf for outerwear it's a great idea, it really ups the look-will keep this in my mind for this fall:-9.

I love the pattern and colour....yet another nice piece on you Deborah. It looks a lot less bulky than your former choice and suits you well. I can picture it working with lots of items you already own.

Oh, I like this much better, Deborah.  It's more streamlined on you than the one you returned.  I love it styled with the scarf - very, very nice.

Great cardigan! I actually liked the other one too, but now that you have this one I can see that it actually works better... More polished look!

    Love the new cardigan! Stunning.

This cardigan looks nothing like the bathrobe one...I love the way you have tailored the sides to fit and it does look absolutely FAB...

Looks great Deborah!  I actually liked the other one too, but more for lounging in, this one is definitely better for being out and about.  And a scarf is an excellent idea to add some oomph (and warmth!) to the overall look.

    Love it! Definitely a keeper.

That cardi is gorgeous in you. You look so lovely!

I love it!!!!!  I love everything about this style.

Very nice - I like how the piping gives it structure.

  • Olivegreen replied 5 years ago

Hah, I quite liked the bathrobe :-)
Agree this needs a scarf, it looks trimmer and less of that oh so comfy volume, but more flattering and office worthy. Like the drape neck blouse underneath, too!

I like the new cardi SO much more. Not bath robe-ish. Good job taking in the side seams. Great look on you, Debs. Rock on.

Are you growing your hair back into a bob?

  • Deborah replied 5 years ago

Angie my hair is driving me crazy! I think I am growing it into a short bob. Longer at the front and shorter (graduated) at the back. Probably no longer at the front than my ear lobe and slightly choppy;). I am open to suggestions:). I do like it the shorter length:)

Sounds fab, Debs. Your hair looks amazing so no worries there. We can go through those in-between stages together. I have about 3 more months to go. I should be there at the end of Summer.

You look fantastic in your long cardi and I'm loving your hair..beautiful!

  • shedev replied 5 years ago

Nice cardi, you did a great job with the take in.

  • MTBGirl replied 5 years ago

That is perfect for you! Good seamstressing too!

  • Aida replied 5 years ago

I liked the old one and like the new one as well :) I like it a LOT with the big scarf, as in #5 (and the tie in #6 will be super too).

  • Kirstjen replied 5 years ago

Wow, the scarf makes it look like a shawl-collared coat.  Very stylish!

  • torontogirl replied 5 years ago

    Perfection. That's all!!

Love this on you and it is great with the white top. Proportions on the longer cardis are tricky, yet worthwhile to sort out. I really enjoyed the one that worked for me last winter.

Your hair looks amazing! Sorry that it is tough to deal with; you would never know it.

I adore this cardigan, can I ask where you got it as I may be able to get one here in NZ.  It is sharp but still cosy, which is a great combination.  I do find black and white pieces such a useful addition to the wardrobe!!

  • unfrumped replied 5 years ago

Oh wow, I do like the new one so much better. The fabric works so well. I like what Kiwigal said, it looks both crips and cozy at the same time; what a find.

  • catgirl replied 5 years ago

This is fabulous! I love this look.

  • Firecracker replied 5 years ago

Very pretty outfit! Nice job on the cardigan!

Breathing a sigh of relief.  My luck with long cardigans hasn't been good (you haven't seen all that I have tried lol) and as I have already tailored this am very relieved you like it:)

Kiwigal, the brand is Filo and I got it in a little boutique in town.  Not expensive. I think it got it for around 30.00 on sale but can't recall the full price.  It is nice and light and easy to wear, very nice for someone who likes to layer.  Filo is part of the QQ Fashion Group see here http://www.qqfashions.com.au/collections.php on the front page is the cardigan but in purple shade :)  They might be able to advise if they stock NZ:)  I think there may have been one left at the store I went to.  Would you like me to pop in and see if it is still there?  I would be very happy to get it for you (if it's your size) and send it over xxx

Angie, yes we can go through that stage together, but IMHO your hair doesn't look like it is in that awkward stage.  It looks beautifully and intentionally styled and cut x

I liked the other cardigan, but I do like this one much better. Good job taking in the side seams. My favorite is #5 with the big scarf.
