WIW : Sunday Morning

Happy Sunday Fabbers!

I find I very easily fall into a pattern of skinnies/leggings and oversized toppers and if I don't give my outfits some thought, items I do love can hang lonely in my closet.

Skirts are one of those items that can easily be ignored. So today my outfit started with with two items I wanted to wear and built from there.

Those items were my tall boots and an asymmetric jersey skirt. I wanted a long continuous line on the bottom so added opaque tights, add a draped long sleeve top (see Pic #6) to add hint of grey to break the black, and finished with my textured poncho. The last time I wore the poncho I wore it with the long triangular sections centre front and back, this time I wore it with the long sections to the sides creating an even hemline across the front.

Accessories were drop mother of pearl earrings, silver rings and my houndstooth Nine West back carried as a clutch. And new nail colour! It's called Mauve Kiss, Colour Show by Maybelline, its a really nice matt but neutral tone.

We are enjoying a very chilly winter and the layering here provided the right amount of warmth for church this morning.

Thank you for looking and any thoughts, suggestions, critques always very appreciated.

xxxDeborah

    You look fab!

I love the skirt and boots with the poncho and hint of grey and the nail colour is perfect. I wish I could wear this colour but it is awful on my skin, awesome on yours though!

Thanks so much Kiwigal! It's a funny tone and I wasn't 100% sure if it would suit my skin tone. I don't think it's perfect but I think it works. The more I look at it, the more I am liking it.

I love the poncho with the long triangular sections - very dramatic and beautiful. The nail color goes perfectly with your outfit, and that purse is fantastic.

Love the way you twisted your poncho in an unexpected way.  Brilliant, Deborah!  Dramatic, beautiful and, oh, do I love the hint of grey, making an appearance.

  • Alana in Canada replied 9 years ago

Very dramatic--yet the black keeps it from going over the top. Fabulous. Love your nail colour, too--and what lovely nails you have, too.

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

I really like the texture of the poncho and the way it works with the soft drape of the skirt. Beautiful nails, as Alana says. And you know how I feel about houndstooth! Yum!!!

  • Deborah replied 9 years ago

So glad you like the nail colour! It was a bit of a change. I don't like to wear 'bare' nails but sometimes I want manicured but subtle for a change from my reds and blacks.

Alana thank you... I am very pleased to be able to say that in a world of acrylic nails (very popular in australia) they are all my own:)

Suz to think I nearly walked about from that bag. It was on sale and I have always had a thing for houndstooth but given it's often retro vibe I was umming and ahhing until my sister just told me to buy it!!

I LOVE the lines in this outfit! Your poses emphasize the elegant simplicity and the black and gray scheme keeps the focus on the structure and line. I am speechless! Marking as a favorite!

    Hi Deborah --

PLEASE wear skirts more often if this is what's hiding in your closet!

I think narrow silhouettes like this are right in line with your usual long over lean preferences.

Love the poncho worn like this, too. You carry off dramatic looks so well.

  • Deborah replied 9 years ago

DV you make me blush. Thanks for your kind words x

Vix, thank you, and I will. I have some lovely skirts with interesting draping and they get lost among the pencil skirts that I seem to have fallen out of love with. Some further culling may be in order.

Tres chic, Deborah! You do it so well! And I love the nails - great colour.

Ooh, I like this very much Deborah!
The dipped hem at the sides is giving a very slimming effect for sure.
Does that grey top have its own folds at the front or have you cleverly semi-tucked?

  • Adelfa replied 9 years ago

One of my favorite outfits. And you have gorgeous fingers!

  • Debra replied 9 years ago

    Gorgeous.......I love this :)

Great outfit, Deborah! Dramatic, interesting and feminine. And warm is definitely a bonus at the moment.

  • Elizabeth P replied 9 years ago

Love this Deborah.  Does that grey top have a built in "faux tuck"?  Neat.

And guess what?  I woke up this morning thinking we hadn'theard from you in a while (or at least, I hadn't seen a post, doesn't mean something didn't slip by me) so it was funny  to  see this as soon as I sat down at the computer!

The first pic is like out of some magazine!! Beautiful! And love tour thought process in putting together the outfit. Very arty chic!

What Dramatic and beautiful lines, with a lot of textural interest - this outfit is gorgeous. I too, love your nail color. I'm a fan of neutral "odd" colors as I think they look very modern. And Yes to natural nails!

Beautiful and dramatic and very Deborah! I love how the draping and lines create a very interesting outfit , without bold colours or patterns.

You have such a knack for creating looks that suit your style so perfectly...dramatic, chic and feminine.

Thanks so much for you very kind comments:)  I suspect there may be days where you have all had enough of my drapey black numbers but I appreciate that you take the time to look and share your thoughts.

Lyn D and Elizabeth, yes the grey top has a 'built in" faux tuck. The back is long.  I loved it when I bought it but must confess to having some reservations about what I would style it with but it's turning into a workhorse.. I have worn it various looks three times over the past week.

And Elizabeth it's nice to be missed.  I have been commenting but not posting outfits as much due to life being busy and I figure daily black outfits might be boring to some lol:)

Gorgeous! I love your drapey black looks. :-) I love how interesting this is, and how many great details your put into your outfits!

  • Lucy replied 9 years ago

The most gorgeous of outfits! Beautiful. elegant, chic (an overused word, but I think appropriate here!). That skirt is to-die-for.

  • replied 9 years ago

Love that skirt and grey top - thanks for the inspiration to try out some draped and twisted features ...something I aways shy away from .  All of this is so gorgeous with your striking hair (both the colour and the cut). Dramatic vs soft - in the best way.  Yikes for winter !

  • Angela K replied 9 years ago

You look beautiful-so elegant and dramatic.  The drama of the black against your striking hair really is so fab.  and I love, love, love your poses.  :)
