WIW : Summer of '14

Hi Ladies,

Well the summer of 2014 is a scorcher as we like to say here in Aus :)

Spoiler alert... yes Im wearing another black dress :)

My small collection of black summer dresses have been priceless during this heat. Cool, easy to wear, and can be dressed up or down with the right footwear / accessories. One of the things I like about black in summer is the high contrast between the black of the clothing and pale skin.

This dress was in the donate pile not so long ago but I am glad I got it back out. It has zips on the shoulder and is an easy fitting, light weight dress. I have popped a sheer draped sleeves jacket over the dress (it helps hide my lumps and bumps) and then for a change, and to add a bit of a trend element, I chose my cobalt sandals.

It's a busy day here, school goes back tomorrow, I also return to work tomorrow and it's DH's birthday today so we are out for dinner tonight which means I may have another outfit to show you later ;)

#4 are new earrings.

#5 is a cuff Master 10 made me using card and screws!! While I was rather impressed, DH insisted Master 10 put all the new screws back in the container as he had they had been specially purchased for a project lol.

Happy Sunday everyone!
xxx Deborah

I don't know how you can look so gorgeous in that kind of heat Deb. I love your collection of black dresses - this one looks fantastic with your cobalt sandals.

Maybe Master 10 has a future in jewelry design - this is actually quite clever and very cool looking. Too bad it had to be dismantled - lol!

    Hi Deborah,

You look lovely!  Your hair and lips are so pretty and I love the dress and  earrings!  Your DS is too cute with his creation!  Hope your DH has a nice birthday celebration.

Gorgeous! Your new haircut still takes my breath away. And I LOVE all the incredible hot weather fashion coming from your part of the world, because very hot is my dominant season. (Your DS would get along well with mine I suspect.)

You look lovely Deborah in your black dress and gorgeous pale skin. Hooray for your generation hearing the sun smart message loud and clear.
I am so impressed by your lad's artistry. He knows your style and he's got the proportions just right. Seriously, he's good.

Deborah, you look beautiful! I love this drapey sleeveless vest over the dress -- very, very elegant with the narrow skirt of the dress. It's a silhouette I especially love. I also ADORE the earrings -- I just love jewellery with sharp angles like that.

As for Master 10's bracelet, I think he takes after his very creative mum. That is extremely cool and very sweet of him.

LOL at the industrial cuff!!  I love it ;)  And those cobalt sandals are perfect with any of your black dresses.  Awesome.

Gorgeous dress, gorgeous sandals, and gorgeous earrings.

Your son's talents as a jewelry designer should be encouraged.

Wow, your DS should sell these on Esty! He's got an eye for it, for sure!:-)

I'm amazed you can wear layers in that heat, but I know having the right pieces is the key. I also love black in summer for the same reason! Blue sandals are exactly the right amount of edginess, who tought blue can also be?? YLF!

Glad you got this out of the donate pile, great outfit, the sandals add a lovely pop of colour.

Love the dress! I think I need some cool black dresses for this summer now too. Wow, what a cute cuff your son made! To bad you'll have to disassemble it :(

    Great summer look!

Master 10 is a sweetie! Was he disgruntled when he had to take apart his creation?

    Love the new cuff!

I love this look and the sandals are beautiful; they add such interest to the outfit.

I want to copy your idea of black dresses for the summer. Because I work in A/C I don't have to be too concerned about keeping cool on work days. But I remember from last summer that I had a definite lack of polished looks for casual wear and for slightly dressier evenings out. I believe dresses might be the best option.

That cuff is killing me. You look cool and chic. I really like the unexpected cobalt shoes.

Speechless. The sheer jacket and cobalt shoes make this amazing ... taking notes. (Love Master 10's cuff. so cool)

  • carambola replied 10 years ago

Really gorgeous and chic with your killer new hair, red lip, and cobalt shoes. Love the earrings (and creative cuff), too.

These hand-made items are so precious Deborah- at least you have a photo wearing it!
I only recently had to discard my 'uncooked-pasta, string and tissue-paper necklaces' from my DDs due to wear and tear issues ;)
Love the practicality of dresses for this hot weather.

  • kellygirl replied 10 years ago

So pretty! I love the blue shoes in this. You always look SO striking!

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

Lyn, I still have a coloured bead 'necklace' that Master 10 made me.  It's on string, roughly tied and it's really special.  Every now and again I wear it because I love to see the look on his face:)  He is old enough now to know it's not the best but the fact that I will wear it seems to make his day :)... and as a result it makes mine too.

  • Debra replied 10 years ago

Gorgeous look. Simple and elegant. Love the cobalt sandals and that cuff is a winner :)

I shivered when I saw your picture.  Right now, sleeveless just makes me think -- "Surely she needs a coat!"  It's been that kind of winter!

Love the silhouette, and your polished hair and lip adds to the lovely high contrast, along with the spot of blue in the shoes.

As for the cuff?  Well, he knows you like "edge!"
