WIW : Shirt Dress

Hi Ladies,

Months ago I showed you a shirt dress I was keen on.
http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....hirt-dress

Well I let it go primarily because it didn't work with my budget at the time. Long story short, I did eventually purchase the dress at a deeply reduced price a few weeks ago.  I had never quite forgotten it and was pretty sure I would love it;)  I was interested in adding a shirt dress to my wardrobe after seeing Angie's shirt dress a while back.  I knew I wanted blue or black, it needed to be in a satin type fabric, grandpa type collar, and I knew I wanted high / low hemline.

So today was it's first outing.  I love the dress worn on it's own but it's too cold today and it was the weather that inspired me to layer over it..  not that I need much encouragement to layer:)

Jet Pocket Shirt Dress - Witchery
Sleeveless Tunic Knit - Supre(!)
Leggings - cannot remember
Ankle Boots - Rivers

I wore this to church this morning and received some lovely compliments which was really nice.

#6/7 are the catalogue photos.  It is longer on me of course :)  I had considered shortening the back hem but I actually like the drama of the different lengths and have decided not to.

What do you think?  I hope I have negated some of the nightie associations some had previously lol:)

xxx Deborah

Hi there Deb,well I almost always look at the pics on a post before I read the text and the first wordsthat came to mind were dramatic and chic you don't need to shorten itI think it looks even better on you because of the length.

    Stunning, Deborah. Great buy!

I also wondered about this dress, and here it is in it's full glory! Big love from me, love the smokey blue color, dramatic hi-low and the notch(grandpa?) collar! Great layering, too, thus I would never thought of this one kind, you're so creative. Love the leggings, and the shoe option, too! Perfect!

The dress and the way you have Deborah-ized it is fabulous. Please don't shorten it.

I love it! It reminds me very much of the blue Vince silk tunic I found on a good sale at the SoCal Shoptoberfest a couple of years ago. I love it on you layered and unlayered, and I agree that it does not need shortening. Beautiful color!

#1 is such a striking look...the layering is beautiful.

  • Glory replied 8 years ago

Gorgeous on you the way it is (no shortening). I'm so happy for you that you found it at a reduced price!

  • Angie replied 8 years ago

    Very gorgeous and dramatic.

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

Thanks ladies! Looking forward to wearing it again and thinking up other styling options:)

So chic, Deborah, and the blue is gorgeous.

  • SarahTheWhite replied 8 years ago

Oh goodness, this is amazing! It is so you, and yet the color makes it a nice variation and compliment to your wardrobe. Love it so much!!

  • Sveta replied 8 years ago

You are a Layering Queen! This dress has your name written all over it.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 8 years ago

Fantastic outfit, Deborah. I really like the drama of the lengths, too. And I love the sleeveless tunic over the dress and leggings--a brilliant way to wear it for the cooler day.

  • Marley replied 8 years ago

This is beautiful on you Deborah!  Love the way that you've layered over it - so dramatic, and the color combination is stunning. BTW - what is a grandpa collar?

  • Jaime replied 8 years ago

Love it including the length. I like it without the over layer too.

  • Elizabeth P replied 8 years ago

    Oh my... PLONK!
The dress is great, but the outfit detail which pushes me over the edge is the peep of skin between your leggings and the shape of your booties.  That, combined with the sweep of fabric by your ankles... I dunno why that strikes me, but it does!

  • frannieb replied 8 years ago

I will say I like it better on you then on the model.

Great drama and it is fab layered and unlayered.

  • Suz replied 8 years ago

Beautiful -- what a gorgeous blue, too. Love it on you.

  • No Fear of Fashion replied 8 years ago

I think it is very arty. But I am glad you are not wearing the slippers as the model does. Although.... it seems to be all the rage so I am probably too old to get by.

A very Deborah piece, and eclectic layering at its best. I really love this shade of blue with black, and the satin-y material of the dress adds beautiful textural interest.

  • Helena replied 8 years ago

Beautiful and a stunning color on you!

  • catgirl replied 8 years ago

Love this!  My only concern would be tripping over the back, because I'm a klutz.  But I adore the length on you, and the layering is terrific.

  • Adela replied 8 years ago

It looks fantastic on you! I like it much better than on a model. You make it stylish and just right. Love the colour.

  • Lyn D. replied 8 years ago

Smiling at the length difference between the model and yourself Deborah :) :) I saw this one IRL and knew I couldn't make it work for me- but you have transformed it into something really special!
The layering and accessories are brilliant.

  • Caro in Oz replied 8 years ago

Fab! I saw those too & it's a beautiful colour. I prefer it without the layer too - did I just write that? :)

  • Debbie replied 8 years ago

This dress perfectly fits your style!

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

Sometimes I think you lovely ladies are the only ones who really 'get' me:)
Thank you for that :)  And I am so glad you don't think I should shorten it:)
Una it's looks long and it is, but it's not really long enough at the back that I would catch it...so far:)
Marly I think a grandpa collar is a derivative of mandarin collar?? Maybe in the US it is known by a different name.
Elizabeth you have pinpointed the things I love out this combo:)
Lyn D Thank you!  The length at the back was a consideration.. that model must be super tall lol
Caro.. did you just say that!! ;)

  • Runcarla replied 8 years ago

Seriously stylish. Love the dark blue + black. This is one of my favourite outfits posted by you!

  • texstyle replied 8 years ago

Very stylish - love it on you Deb - length is good and the color is very nice. Looking forward to seeing it again!

  • LucyRose replied 8 years ago

Oh! I really love this! The length is really gorgeous but also kind of unexpected. I like the extreme shirtdress with beautiful heels to stop it being too casual.

  • shedev replied 8 years ago

I love the way you styled the dress.

  • rachylou replied 8 years ago

    Looks just fantastic on you!
