WIW : Rhapsody in Blue

That may be overstating it lol.  But I liked the title.

Church today and as I have mentioned before because we don't start til 10.30 am., I have some time to play and it's often Sundays that I come up with new combinations.  I also put together an outfit for work on Tuesday comprising a new white shirt dress so I am looking forward to snapping that one.

I am wearing a cobalt blue draped dress (I last wore this in the summer to an engagement dinner).  Dress is layered over my mixed media Zara Leggings  with my trusty ankle boots.  I like the leggings boot combo here because it almost looks as though I am wearing very fitted leather OTK boots.  I then layered a Metalicus Cropped Sweater over the dress.  Accessories, silver rings, earrings and collar.

I was comfortable, almost warm enough (-3 this morning) and I think this is a combo I will repeat.  I have never been 100% happy wearing the dress as is.  It's almost too much colour for me lol.

Thanks for looking.  Does this layering work to your eye?

xxx Deborah

You are just the Queen of Combos! I love how you keep coming up with new ways to combine things. And that blue is beautiful!

Lisa, if it makes you feel better, I thought to myself this morning that this outfit would be a great maternity outfit lol...true. It would showcase a lovely pregnant tummy beautifully:). So I hear you! I am not bothered by that tho as IRL the drape and flow is more evident and quite slenderizing...I made sure ha ha.

I tried to rewrite my comment and then ended up deleting it. It's not that. It's more to do with my eye wanting the larger "piece" (the dress) to be the darker of the two, and the top to be the brighter and lighter. I'm getting way outside of my knowledge range here - and will promptly shut up.

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

Oh Lisa, it's never a problem. Always share freely with me. I do think I understand what you see, and your comments are always relevant xxx

You look gorgeous in that blue, Deb! Beautiful! I love the collar necklace...very elegant and chic.

I can bet you are the best dressed woman in church! Im sure a lot of woman must have 'upped' their game to match up! I mean, I don't know what people wear to the church n your part of the world...since its early morning...but I would gladly wear an outfit like that for an evening out...it's THAT stylish!

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

Maneera, thank you!  Church attire is pretty much anything you want in this part of the world.  The seniors usually have their Sunday best on, a reflection of the generation they grew up in.  I just loving dressing so I use it as an excuse/reason to do so:)  We see lots of jeans and some very casual (too casual for me) also.

  • Maneera replied 8 years ago

Ah I see. I have friends who go to church every Sunday...a 55 year old lady with her daughters. They wear what I would call smart casuals - pants and floaty tops or jeans....so leaning more towards casuals.

Sounds like your church is way funkier! It's great to have an opportunity to get dressed up every Sunday!

The blue is beautiful on you and it works well with the black. The pants/boots do look like OTKs. Fantastic!

I wonder how a very long pendant would look as well. It would add a vertical line in contrast to the dramatic horizontal line of the 2 colours. Just a thought. I like to use jewelry to draw the eye in different directions.

  • Lucy replied 8 years ago

I like this! I can see what LisaP is saying, but I don't mind that at all. I really like the necklace to draw the eye upwards, too.

I'm reading your posts as Lessons in Layering you seem to have so many combinations! I really like the way the leggings and boots work to give one long line.

A rhapsody, indeed, Deborah.  At first glance I thought you were  wearing tall boots - those leggings are amazing with the booties.
The whole outfit is lovely, and I'm glad that you dress nicely for church; I can't quite get my head around casual for that occasion, but that's probably just my age talking.

  • dakotacheryl replied 8 years ago

Of course it's tourist season in my neck of the woods, but when I get to church this morning, most of the folks will have on shorts and T's.

I didn't see Lisa's first comment, but I see that the big swath of bright blue on the bottom layer might be a little different to her eye. I do like it, but the line between the top and bottom layer is very stark.

I agree with Coco, a long pendant necklace would really tie those two layers together.

Whenever I see those fabulous leggings with your booties, I always think you have on tall boots until I look more closely. LOVE THEM on you!!

You look so warm and cozy and stylish here!!

Another gorgeous combination! That shade of blue looks lovely on you.

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 8 years ago

I love the blue - it is one of my favorite colors but I am finding the color blocking feels a touch too high in contrast.  I would like to see this with the new grey topper you posted a few days ago to see if the slightly lower contrast would work.

I think this is a smashing outfit.  The volume on volume look is offset for me by the cropped nature of the top. I especially do love those boots too and am resolved to see if they still selling. Are they still in stock here?

  • gryffin replied 8 years ago

TDF stunning!! That color is amazing on you.  Did you see the EF video on "the system"?  It reminds of me of that.  Elegant slim pieces, layered in different ways for a practical and versatile closet.  Wow!! http://www.eileenfisher.com/Ei.....esystemF15

I absolutely love it.  Cobalt is such a lovely color when combined with black (and alone).

  • lyn67 replied 8 years ago

I actually saw this combo of your mixmedia leggings and booties a few times here and  had to take second glances to match description with the pictie, as it fooled me all the time  for  tall boots instead:-). Love your layering skills, will have to take notice for my winters of this, too:-).

  • Sal replied 8 years ago

Fun, a good way to get more wear from your dress. Agree the leggings and boots combo is terrific.

  • Lyn D. replied 8 years ago

    Gryffin's link is excellent!
Love your new sweater over the longer dress look here Deborah.
( I wore a new crop long-sleeve Metalicus top over a long fitted tank and jeans on Saturday.)
I like the way cropped tops add structure by defining the waist!

Gryffin, the EF Lookbook is amazing.  I have so many things in my wardrobe that I could use to recreate those looks!!  That is Spring sorted for me :)
