WIW : Pretty (?) In Pink

Hi Ladies,

You may need to sit down for this one lol!!

Yes I am wearing pink... with black:)

I have found myself very attracted to pink recently.  I bought a soft pink, wrap jersey top, the scarf in this outfit and the knit jacket was given to me by my sister.  She bought it for herself and at 6ft+ she found it was just too short for her so she asked if I would like it.  I did like it:)

I wore this to work today and it was a very comfortable outfit.  I felt very put together and 'fresh' all day.

Blazer : Laura Ashley (forgot to take a pic of the lining its delicious)
Sleeveless top : Suzanne Grae
Black Pants : Katies
Boots : Spurr
Scarf : Serra

So... what do you think? I really like the softness of the pink against the black and despite the colour I still felt very 'me' in this:)

Thanks for taking a peek.
xxx Deborah

Deborah, you look absolutely stunning! Love the different shades of soft pink. SO nice!

  • jenanded replied 8 years ago

O h this is really cute on you Deborah. A really fresh take on YOU... x

  • replied 8 years ago

    *plonk* :D

Awesome! It's really flattering to your lovely creamy complexion too.

  • Staysfit replied 8 years ago

Yes! This looks great, and what a nice surprise! This shade of pink really works for you!

  • Summer replied 8 years ago

The pink looks lovely on you, Deborah, and the whole outfit and colour combination is gorgeous.

  • lyn67 replied 8 years ago

I'm seated, but gosh, some smelling salts would be so handy:-)).
    Love! (now fainted:-))

  • Olivegreen replied 8 years ago

I am in love with the scarf. That icy pink really works.
The more shocking pink is actually shocking :-) and very pretty. Does this signal a style shift? Watching with interest!

  • MTBGirl replied 8 years ago

Love the pink on you! You look lovely and very sleek!

  • Cococat replied 8 years ago

So....I'm guessing you don't normally do pink..... ;-)

It looks great on you, particularly with the black. I'm not a pink person either but 2 years ago I bought a pink Moto jacket from Zara and i wore it with black a lot.

  • crutcher replied 8 years ago

You look absolutely awesome in this combination...The pink color is perfect for  you...I am surprised that the colors work so well together...You must consider more pastels as a try for other looks...

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

Phew so glad no one has asked "what were you thinking" lol

Olivegreen, maybe a subtle style shift inspired by my new job. I think my shadow style might be modern classic and I am enjoying exploring bringing that element into my work outfits. Maybe more of an evolution than a shift;).

CocoC, I have avoided pink like the plague...for years lol. My son was stunned this morning when he saw me this morning. And I actually rarely wear colour, so it is change ;)

  • Lucy replied 8 years ago

So gorgeous! Strikingly different but yet somehow still "you". I think you would also look beautiful in hot pink. Or is that just going too far??? :)

  • harmonica replied 8 years ago

So fresh and beautiful! Pink is a great colour for you skin. The outfit has your signature on it.

  • Ledonna N. replied 8 years ago

I read some outdated rule that says your not supposed to wear any color with black. Obviously that rule was wrong because you look wonderful in the color combination. The shades of soft pink bring a vibrancy to your fit.

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

Thanks Ledonna:). I think Trinny and Susanna were in favour of only wearing white with black but not colour with black;).

  • donnat replied 8 years ago

It looks fabulous! What a lovely change.

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 8 years ago

What a gorgeous color on you and it plays well with the black.  Very nice choice for adding color.

  • Suz replied 8 years ago

Are you kidding? This is stunning!

And the sky has just fallen AGAIN. Pass the smelling salts, please.

It's an almost greyed pink. And I always think of pink and black or pink and grey as a very 80s colour combination (in a good way). It makes for interesting juxtaposition. So I think it does work well for you (besides the fact that it flatters you to the end of time!)

  • dakotacheryl replied 8 years ago

Love the pink next to your blonde hair, and that scarf!!!

    Wonderful.

  • Jaime replied 8 years ago

    Beautiful! Pink becomes you!

  • Gail replied 8 years ago

    Stunning, love it.

  • Missey replied 8 years ago

Oh wow!  What a gorgeous shade on you!  Who wold have thought ;)?  I like the "soft modern" look on you!

  • Kimberley replied 8 years ago

Oh my gosh.  I love it.  I am in shock, but I love it.

  • Diana replied 8 years ago

    !!!!
Saw this on the wall and did a double take. It's a shock but a good one! The pink is very flattering on you and the contrast with the black is fantastically dramatic.

You win the wild card game.

  • replied 8 years ago

OMG.  I don't think you have ever looked better.  EVER.  I love every single thing about this outfit.  The proportions.  The fit.  The color.  The coziness.  This is how I want to dress every single day of my life.

  • texstyle replied 8 years ago

Are you kidding me? You look fantastic in this color!  This happens to be my favorite shade of pink too - more of a muted or dusty pink I suppose. Love the entire outfit, with the scarf or without.

  • jackiec replied 8 years ago

Pick me up off the floor! Stunning! What a nice change, Deborah. Looks nice on you :)

  • Transcona Shannon replied 8 years ago

So incredibly beautiful on you Deb...I think you may have rendered me speechless :)

  • Laurie replied 8 years ago

Best look ever. Ever.  Just love it.  Agree with Suz, there is a lovely greyness to the pink that makes it perfect for you and slightly edgy.

    Ever...

  • retailgirl replied 8 years ago

Love it, looks great. I think wearing pink with black cuts the "sweetness", keeps it modern. I also love pink with navy.

  • Sveta replied 8 years ago

<plonk> It is good I was sitting already! Deborah in pink! It is not pretty - it is STUNNING!!! Much love from me here.

  • replied 8 years ago

Deborah you look absolutely beautiful. You managed to find a really sophisticated shade too, an eye opener for me because I tend to dismiss pink.
Can't say enough good about this, you look amazing.

  • Angie replied 8 years ago

FELL OFF MY CHAIR AND FAINTED.

  • Angie replied 8 years ago

But recovered quickly because I had to tell you that you look absolutely stunning in this shade of pink, Debs. SO BEAUTIFUL, fresh, healthy, pretty, alive and modern.

The outfit is Killer to the power of Killer.

No more all-black wardrobe for you, young lady.

    *smiling*

  • carolbee replied 8 years ago

WOW. YLF. Its all in the right shade of pink, this looks gorgeous on you.

  • Melissa replied 8 years ago

Happily stealing a few minutes to catch up on some of the WIW that I loved!  Double dittos to all the positive posts.  You look petal-ly (making up words) soft! The pink jacket and creamy scarf soften all that is you.  Now I am going to have to search your archives to see how you pull off chic in a hot, relentless Australian summer(for some pointers for myself)!

  • Elle replied 8 years ago

An incredibly flattering outfit.  I love it with and without the scarf.  The jacket is the right pink for you and the length and style of the jacket makes the outfit.

  • shedev replied 8 years ago

Looks great, nice to let out your softer side.

  • TraceyLiz65 replied 8 years ago

I love how style is always evolving...I absolutely love this on you!

  • old chic replied 8 years ago

You are stunning! It's just lovely with your coloring, and the pink is a far cry from the old hot pink and black of 80s fame. Very modern and sophisticated.

  • karymk replied 8 years ago

    Doing backflips.....

  • Peri replied 8 years ago

Joining the chorus of love. You look fantastic! I love color with black and I am stoutly and forever against "boxes" of any kind. Wearing black most of the time in no way precludes wearing something else whenever you want.

  • gardenchick replied 8 years ago

GREAT outfit. Love the softness of the pink. Good to try on a new look!

  • Helena replied 8 years ago

You never get it wrong, do you Deborah, damn you!!! ;) I kid, I kid ... well, only about the damning you part, you truly always knock it out of the park, and this one is no different!

  • Twinkling replied 8 years ago

Your outfit is SO pretty! That particular shade of pink suits you so nicely and the contrast against the stark black is lovely! Overall you look so sleek and stylish, I love this outfit :)

  • gryffin replied 8 years ago

Deborah - this is absolutely stunning on you.  I love the cut of the jacket and even though I always picture you in drapier pieces it looks so right and wonderful on you.  Love the pink - just gorgeous with your coloring and fab with black.  Despite it not being your typical choice - the jacket/scarf just screams "Deborah" to me.  There is just such a rightness, elegance, refined ease to this look.  Just wonderful!!  enjoy your beautiful pieces!

  • Greyscale replied 8 years ago

I really like it! The structured blazer is a great look, and I'd also love to see something pink/blush in your signature drapey layers.

I'm another who has avoided pink like the plague until recently. I haven't made the leap to a pink top, but I have a blouse with a pink collar, which is a huge change for me!

(Random thoughts - I disliked pink as a kid because of the girly association. I used to say disparaging things about pink clothes, even as an adult. Then I was talking to a good friend who is a transgender woman and realized that she embraced pink as a powerful symbol. She was intentionally choosing everything I had written off - and somehow it permanently shifted how I felt about pink and also made me realize it was pretty awful of me to be dissing others' choice of colors. She's more into hot pink houndstooth than gentle pinks, and I love it on her.)

  • columbine(erin) replied 8 years ago

Plonk! I do love an elegant column of black with pink accents! This particular shade of pink looks lovely with your complexion.

  • Quietgirl replied 8 years ago

Outstandingly fab! This may be my favorite outfit on you ever! The pink makes your skin look a.ma.zing!

  • Ginkgo replied 8 years ago

YLF, and you've toughened pink up successfully!

  • milehighstyle (Linda) replied 8 years ago

WOW - all kinds of love for this look on you.

  • tulle replied 8 years ago

I've never understood pink-phobia, and I hope you're over it now, because you look BEAUTIFUL in pink!

  • Lyn D. replied 8 years ago

    WHAT WERE YOU THINKING DEBORAH-
you look PERFECT in pink ;)

  • rachylou replied 8 years ago

Ohmigosh. I do need a sit down. Lol. That is a one-two punch. First the idea of pink and then the knockout pow! This outfit has already been hearted :D

  • Momo replied 8 years ago

Beautiful. I love the color on you and I love it with black.

  • Caro in Oz replied 8 years ago

Perfect in pink, such a beautiful colour on you.  Agreeing with Angie - but you knew that :) :)

Just a side note I really love that you are exploring "modern classic" I think adding a touch of it to your outfit really works for you.

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

Goodness!  Well I am feeling the love and am wearing a huge smile today:)  Thanks for your lovely lovely words and encouragement.  Looks like this pink is definitely a colour that could be a player in my wardrobe.

Angie you are so funny, and thank you!  You know the all black outfits are my staple but my new job is definitely providing the opportunity and inspiration for further expanding my style.

    Lyn D too funny!

I think one of my challenges with 'colour' is I rarely find garments in the styles I like that are colour.  The styles I prefer are more readily available in black.  And of course I LOVE black:)

Thanks Caro.  Modern Classic is probably somewhere at the very foundation of my style.  When I was working in the corporate sector my wardrobe was very classic but in that environment there was little room for expressing oneself in what I wore.  Mixing classic with more modern touches is actually very appealing and certainly feels very appropriate for my current job.  And dare I say, I feels kind of grown up :)

  • catgirl replied 8 years ago

This is amazing beyond belief! Still has your edge but the color really makes you look so alive and vibrant! I love your black outfits too - but now that Ive seen this I want more!

  • Helena replied 8 years ago

Deborah - do you think your dedication to sticking to the all black palette has given you a sharper eye for the colors you love?

  • replied 8 years ago

So brilliant on you, Deborah. This shade of pink is perfect for your colouring. You've inspired me to break out the pink and black tomorrow.

  • Marilyn replied 8 years ago

Gasp!  This is just beautiful!  You look sensational in pink and the pop of colour with the black is fab.

  • Caro in Oz replied 8 years ago

Ikwym about colour Deborah. Style is just as important to me as colour & the styles I love are mainly available in black or white. That's why I defaulted to black for so long, even though I never like it on me :)

  • Karie replied 8 years ago

Ohmygoodness, you look stunning in pink! You were made for this beautifully cool shade.

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

Torontogirl, yes I absolutely think that refining my style and limiting my colour palette has helped me to be much more clear on what colour I do want in my closet:)

  • Beth Ann replied 8 years ago

A very sophisticated pink on a very sophisticated lady!

Love this addition to your wardrobe.  And I like black, too!

  • celia replied 8 years ago

OMG I hadn't seen the photos yet. You look amazing! That pink is perfect for you.

  • Deb replied 8 years ago

I always like it when you add the occasional splash of colour....this is no exception. Your skin glows against this pink and the whole look flatters you very much. Another good score in the jacket department....you've done well lately on that front.

  • unfrumped replied 8 years ago

So fantastic. That is a great cool purple-y pink that I may snatch right off your back. The fit is great on you. I've been searching for that color but everything is either blush or hot pink. Plonk!

  • E replied 8 years ago

WOW!!! Like everyone else, I just love it to death. :D

  • amiable replied 8 years ago

    Gorgeous!  (As usual!)

  • No Fear of Fashion replied 8 years ago

I did gasp and I did sit down. I have been waiting for you to wear something else but black, grey and white.
Of course those colours suit you and of course, if that is what you like, go right ahead. But as I am personally a woman who loves colour, I could imagine how good it would on you. This jacket is divine on you.
Can I rave on for a couple of hours????
    Greetje

  • karymk replied 8 years ago

Coming back to this post to visit and I can't believe how many positive responses you get when you wear pink Deborah!!! I don't think Trinny and Susannah know anything.  Okay maybe some things about dressing figure types, but OF COURSE YOU CAN MIX BLACK WITH COLOR!  What are THEY thinking is the question!

Okay, now what else are you going to buy in pink now that you've determined it's gorgeous on you.....

Large Pink Bead Necklace (collarbone length)
    Pink shoe.
    Pink bag.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 8 years ago

You look stunning in this outfit, Deborah. Those shades of pink are fab on you. I love the big soft scarf with the outfit, and it looks gorgeously simple without it, too.
