WIW : Patterned Pants!

Happy Sunday!

Worn to church this morning and despite being Autumn it's still quite summery:)

This pants were an impulse buy some time back.  Black and white, heavily reduced and seemed like a good idea at the time lol.

So this is only the second time I have worn them.  They look a lot like a pair that Joy has and that did inspire me to give them more opportunities for wear.  I have to be honest and admit that I don't LOVE  them the way I love almost everything else in my closet BUT that is ok.  It's actually nice to have a couple of things in said closet for those days when you just want something a little different to your norm.  As it cools down, I am thinking my white jacket could be a good topper for these pants.

What say you?  Am I straying too far from my style persona, or could these be a good item for what could be a smart casual work capsule, in the event that I get a new job?

Thanks for looking and I appreciate your thoughts and comments.

xxx Deborah

P.S.  my job interview is tomorrow..I am quite excited.

Looks terrific and may I say your arms are looking buff! Good luck at the job interview - I am sure you will wow them!

I think that they look great and are a perfect piece to shake things up  little bit.  Good luck with the job!

The pants look great on you, and they look like your style. They go really well with the slouchy top and sandals, and I can imagine they'll go with your drapey jackets, too. How exciting about the interview--good luck!

I think the pants are a fun piece but not overly on your face kind of print. And you wore them to perfection here :-) Good luck with your interview!

Pants looked super! I think the black side stripe makes them smart enough for your style, if that makes sense.
Good luck with the interview! Fingers crossed, I'm sure you will be great.

I love them, Deborah.  It's good to have something a little different, just to mix things up from time to time.

I love these and feel they work well for your style. Good luck with the interview!

I think these look great, you could certainly incorporate them into your style.

I'm going to join the chorus and say that I too think the slouchy pants look great! I really don't think that they are too far removed from your usual look at all and I can envisage them working with a few of your pieces. Great job and a fab look for today.

Another vote of love for those pants! But I love patterned pants, do you love patterned pants? The style is one that you definitely rock, and if they were solid black I think you'd wear them in a heartbeat. Will you reach for them in your closet instead of your solids? The fit is spot on and the print is gorgeous. They aren't too busy, and are colors you love (black and white). I think it's a nice foray into patterned pants land for you!

Deborah, I think the pants and the whole outfit look totally fab on you, but I also completely understand having a little discomfort with patterned pants. These actually remind me a bit Ida pair I have that I have not worn a tremendous amount, but I enjoy anyway. I kinda have to be in the right mood to wear them, but I'm glad to have them when the mood strikes.

Rest assured that these do look great on you!

I think of these (and mine) as more of a texture than a print and love them on you. I think that the stylish black tuxedo stripe and assymetrical top with trendy footwear and, the black/white color scheme keep them in your style persona. Now I can't wait to see if my black silky draped top and new EF shoes, all in the closet at home, will work with mine. I have loved them as a comfortable change from jeans and trousers but have worn mostly black on top so far.
The way that you have styled these track pants looks like they will work well in a smart casual work capsule.

I like them too - they are a bit different than your usual pants, but they work to me because of the black/white tie in and they are a flattering style. As Joy said, the pattern is almost like a texture, which I really like.

i like this, sometimes we need something that's just a little different to change things up.

They look great on but I understand how they feel like a bit of a departure (but in my eyes, a small departure at that). But from your comments, it sounds like you need a few items that allow you to make small shifts. If you genuinely feel good about making this small shifts, then they seem to play an important role. If every time you put them on you feel out of sorts...then I would say they're not making you happy. I'm looking forward to understanding where you net on these -- especially since you've mentioned being a brutal purger.

And I'm a bit wrapped around the axel about a cohesive look (my issues).

I'm joining the "look good" chorus. From my brief experience with your style, I think that this type of geometric pattern is very you. For me, the hesitation is in the cuff. They look great, but I wonder if they'd be even more fab without the roll, either with a knit tracksuit-type cuff (which might be hard to add, I don't know anything about tailoring) or hemmed and tapered to drape/scrunch slightly at the bottom and join the top of your shoe. Take my bossy ideas with a grain, though: I'm drawn to this look but not sure how to style it, so I'm not the best person to insert my opinions like I just did ;)

Thinking of you and sending good vibes for your interview!

It's a great outfit Debs, just a bit more casual that I am used to see you in, but that's OK! You do need variety of outfits for a variety of formality levels. And I do think it totally blends in your usual wardrobe.

  • Diana replied 9 years ago

I think these look great and I think you could work them into your wardrobe pretty easily.

I have some similar and this is my favorite way I have styled them.  I think you have a long vest like this too?

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

LOVING the patterned pants, Debs. Nice LIGHT change.

May I suggest having them hemmed. The roll on that style of pant in the slippery fabric doesn't work as well as on jeans and rigid cottons, if you know what I mean. I think you'll like them more with a crisp hem.

  • Hil replied 9 years ago

I like them on you you very much... I had a pair myself and I've unfortunately had to retire them because they're too big.

I like Angie's suggestion of a crisp hem. I'm also seeing them with a cobalt blue top and your cobalt sandals?

  • Carole replied 9 years ago

You look fantastic in the patterned pants. The subtle design is interesting but not too busy...a fun change for you!

  • gryffin replied 9 years ago

I really like these Deborah.  Almost a pseudo neutral.  I'm not a huge pattern girl, but I think these are very elegant and like the tux style stripe.  I think they are fab for your style and may be much more versatile than you think!!  Yes, I like them for work or nice casual!!
