WIW Introducing New Oxfords Edit: new laces!

Good morning Ladies!

First outing of my Mothers Day gift:)

My eye is yet to adjust to this shoe on me. I played it safe with styling taking lead from Angie and others who have posted Oxford outfits.

I think the stripes on the outer layer do add somewhat to my middle but today's style goal is casual and comfy (lots of running around on non work day) so creating a really slim line is not so important. (ah who am I kidding lol) :)

Black Trench - Katies

B&W striped t - ???

White Layering shirt - Target

Skinny Jeans

Oxfords - Rivers

Looking forward to styling the shoes with dresses and skirts:)

Do you think a straight leg jean might work better on me with the oxfords?

Your opinions much appreciated, along with styling advice. This is new territory for me!

xxx

Deborah

Deborah, those oxfords look totally cool! I kind of like the idea of a slightly straighter leg too, but I think they look cute with the skinnies too. Great move pairing them with the striped top.

I love the outfit. Is there a way to tuck the shoelace bows out of sight? My eye seems strangely drawn to them, and they're distracting. I don't know what other oxford people do with the laces...And maybe IRL it's not an issue.

    Kari, thank you!

CC I am going to buy some new shorter laces:). I noticed this too:)

I love these shoes Deborah and I think they way you've styled them is fab. They would also work well with a straighter leg. Agree that those laces have got to go!

  • Deborah replied 12 years ago

Thanks Shannon! I'm going to have to go straight away and buy new laces! They are going to drive me crazy all day otherwise. I'm actually thinking shorter black laces WDYT ?

  • Transcona Shannon replied 12 years ago

I think I'd still stick with white as the lace part is on the white of the shoe but definitely much shorter.

  • Deborah replied 12 years ago

Thanks Shannon :). Im actually contemplating a variety of laces including spotty ones! Just to vary the look from time to time? Will see :)

Deborah, this is a really nice casual, comfy outfit and I particularly like the layering of the striped tee with the white blouse. Yes, I also noticed the larger-than-life bows and I think black laces would be a nice adaptation to the oxfords. They look terrific with your skinnies, but straight legs may offer an even more sleek and streamlined look. Play around with it and see what you think. I do love your shoes.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 12 years ago

spotty laces would be soooo much fun Deborah!

  • Suz replied 12 years ago

LOVE your outfit. Great minds think alike: I love to wear my Doc Saras with my striped tops, too.

I agree the laces have got to go. Otherwise, you look fab!

  • Deborah replied 12 years ago

Too funny! I have just cut the laces!!! Now neater and smaller bows but will stop shortly and buy some new ones lol ...

  • annagybe replied 12 years ago

I think #2 is just stellar.

  • Tanya replied 12 years ago

Love those oxfords! The whole outfit is great. I also vote to get new laces - I would get both black and white and switch them according to the current mood.

  • replied 12 years ago

Yay, the oxfords! Great outfit with them. DD's black and white oxfords have skinny dress laces (white) and were done up so that they created straight lines from each eyelet to it's horizontal mate. Does that make sense? Then she ties them and tucks the bow under the tongue to create a very clean look.

    Good Morning Deborah,
I agree with the consensus here.
Love outfit #2 with maybe a darker wash straight leg pant to show off the fab shoes.

  • Jaime replied 12 years ago

Love the shoes. I see what you mean about the laces, but doubt it is as noticeable in "real" life as opposed to here where we are staring at your (gorgeous) photos. I think you look quite slim in the stripes actually, and love it with the black trench.

  • Isis replied 12 years ago

Wow! AMAZING outfit! Love #2: creative and interesting! The green crossbody bag and the long blazer (coat?) send it over the top! Great job!

  • Jonesy replied 12 years ago

Very crisp and chic! It's so funny about those laces: They were the first thing I noticed! They are so long and eye-catching :).

  • sarah replied 12 years ago

Hah, another laces-noticer here! I'm excited to see the new version.

These are fab shoes, and I love them with the button-down-under-stripes outfit you've created here.

  • Deborah replied 12 years ago

New laces it is. I like the black and I couldn't find white skinny laces today but will keep looking. I think the black are better. I quite like the contrast. I have been in these shoes since 8.00 am and they are so comfortable!

  • Kirti replied 12 years ago

Very cool! Glad they are comfy :-)

  • Deborah replied 12 years ago

Kirti, thanks! You are the queen of oxfords (along with Kari) in my books:)

  • Chrizzle replied 12 years ago

Looks great with the new laces, Deborah. I saw the original photo of the too-long white laces and these are a definite improvement. You can still keep looking for shorter white laces or ribbon laces for when you want a different look.

My sister has a thrifted pair of very similar black-and-white Rockport oxfords that she got for a Halloween costume and never wears. I may have to adopt those poor little orphans from her!

  • Deborah replied 12 years ago

Thank you all for your comments. The big laces certainly created a kind or characature vibe.. but they are gone! I noticed them whenI got the shoes but it wasn't until I saw the photos that I realise just how huge they are.

So I will try the shoes with a straight leg pant also and I am excited about trying the shoes with dresses also. And I am now on the look out for polka dot ribbon laces ... just for fun.

  • harmonica replied 12 years ago

Love the new black laces, Deborah! The oxfords works great with these jeans and I think skinnies also would be great. Love how the green bag breaks up the white, blue and black! Looking forward to see the oxfords at play with dresses and skirts too :-)

  • lyn67 replied 12 years ago

Love the two tone oxfords with the black laces! great find!

  • Kiwichik replied 12 years ago

The oxfords (I see them advertised here as brogues) look good.

  • Angie replied 12 years ago

You look playfully divine, Deb! I love the new black laces - do prefer them to the white.

A perfect Mother's Day gift if you ask me :)

  • Transcona Shannon replied 12 years ago

Well I stand corrected on the laces Deborah - the black looks great! Forget what I said about white. I adore these shoes on you!

  • lynne replied 12 years ago

Great outfit and great job with the new laces. The black ones look more sleek somehow.

  • replied 12 years ago

Perfect with the new skinny laces! Love the lacing pattern too, BTW. :)

  • celia replied 12 years ago

    very Fab oxfords.
eta: I didn't want to bump up my thread but the black and white jacket is from Rw&co that is a Canadian brand and it is from last year.

  • Joy replied 12 years ago

So fabulous! I like both colors of laces for different looks...maybe shorter white ones though? You could go wild and use yellow or red or ribbon....

  • sarah replied 12 years ago

    Yes, Yes, Yes!

  • Meredith1953 replied 12 years ago

I love the oxfords combined with that striped top! I do think that a straight leg jean would look awesome also. Are you going to try them with a skirt or dress?

  • Jjsloane replied 12 years ago

Love the outfit and the shoes (with black laces)!
