WIW : Fade to Grey

Happy Weekend Everyone!

Had some errands to run this morning and then lunch with DS (at McDonalds) and a quick trip to replace my black skinny jeans..but more on jeans in another post.

I am finding myself very attracted to the concept of a black base and then a more statement piece over the black and thus this is how I arrived at the combination. When I woke up today, I knew I wanted to wear leggings and flat boots and this Walker & Beck sleeveless jacket. (Truth be told, I could wear leggings and boots every day!!)

The outfit consists of black pointy toe ankle boots, leggings, jersey skirt, asymmetric him tunic and grey sleeveless jacket.

The beauty of this jacket is that it can be worn a few different ways. And it is incredibly warm! I wore it draped as in #1/#3, but as you can see it can be draped and wrapped higher on the neck, AND it can be worn upside down (waving to Joy) creating a shorter wrap like garment with a very nice shape at the back - but I only just tied that so didn't get a pic:)

Love to know what you think? Does it work? Too much bulk? Alternate styling ideas?

Thanks so much for looking and I hope you are having a wonderful start to your weekend.

And because I am an 80's New Romantic through and through, for your listening pleasure...hope the link works, anyone remember Visage??

xxx Deborah

    Hi Deborah- happy weekend!

I love your sleeveless jacket in all incarnations, especially with the cowl neck effect.
(I am planning to wear mine tonight or tomorrow too- thanks for the reminder.)

I hope to 'fade to grey' as stylishly as this :) :)

Does this work?  Are you kidding? It's great!  I love how you own your look: sleek ultra-blonde hair, black base and slick boots, red lips and then this great vest-wrap thing?  Fantastic!  I honestly look forward to your posts for their clean visuals.  I so admire your adherence to a look that clearly works for you!  These up-side down pieces drive me nuts though - I bought one last year at Lululemon here in Canada, and could not figure out what was going on - right side up or upside down. I think I peeled it off in frustration and never wore it again. This dove grey number is a beauty, and is indeed flattering .

Thanks Lyn. Pics would be good:) Love to see how you will be wearing yours.

Lisa you are so kind:) I worry sometimes that my outfits might just be a bit boring given they are all quite similar so your words are incredibly encouraging. Garments like you describe can be frustrating. I admit that this jacket can take me a while to 'arrange' into a drape that I am happy with lol.

It looks great Deborah. I really like #5 - the drape is very flattering imo :)

    I concur with Lisa.

Your WIW are the opposite of boring. Another stylish look.

Love all the drape. And I was a Visage fan, too...We fade to grey

I love it.  Not too much bulk when I remember it is not Summer where you live.

You said you wore a skirt beneath?  I had trouble seeing it, but I like the idea a lot.  I like the idea so much I am going to emulate your example later today (the Summer version).

    Have a great weekend.

Just gorgeous. I love the black base and that jacket/vest is fantastic.
I think I need one of these :)
    Another great outfit :)

Hi Deborah! Love the jacket on you and it makes a great statement piece. So cool that it can be styled so many different ways. I especially love the cowl neck version. You are fab!

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

Your outfits are all gorgeous. What a fabulous and versatile jacket. All versions are beautiful!

Deborah--you are so inspiring! I love this look on you. The more I see you, the more I want to do something like what you are doing--so it is wonderful to see you in your outfits. This one is amazing and not just because of the sweater, but because of the mix.

Love the drape! You look both casual and elegant at the same time. Hope you had fun with your DS.

  • SarahTheWhite replied 9 years ago

Gorgeous! You have nailed the art of the drape! My favorite is #4, but they are all wonderful. :-)

  • Gracie replied 9 years ago

This look is so you. I think of some of your outfits looking "futuristic" and this is one of them. The draping on the front and the clean back are fab, and, bonus, it has pockets! The silhouettes are so clean, I love the look in 4 , cozy and cocconish.

A great addition to your style!  Love the cowl neck version, but all add incredible interest to the black base!

    Killer

It's brilliant to see you wear a light colour, Debs. Bring it on. xo

Deborah - this is incredibly stunning!!  What a fantastic piece and you look marvelous in all the ways you've shown it.  As you know, I am a leggings girl too and I love in boots, leggings, tunics all fall through spring.  This is why I love toppers so much, but I am totally outclassed in the interesting, arty, eclectic group by you!!  Just swoons on how wonderful this look is!!  Enjoy you toasty and gorgeous wrap!!

I love the grey piece over the sleek black base! You look awesome. Wish I had the pieces to copy. :)

  • Transcona Shannon replied 9 years ago

Sooooo gorgeous Deb! That grey vest is a beautiful piece.

  • shedev replied 9 years ago

I love how versatile the grey vest is. You rock it.

  • karymk replied 9 years ago

Love this jacket thingy! It looks so cozy, dramatic yet soft and feminine.  I don't know if I could handle an "upside down" piece like you are talking about above, lol.  I like seeing you in this color up by your face.  It goes with your hair and skin and makes a great light neutral for you.  More of this in your future?

  • replied 9 years ago

Love this look on you Deb! Lovely drapey vest. I like how you can drape it in different ways and fasten it.

    Great Visage song too :)

  • unfrumped replied 9 years ago

Wow, this jacket is so YOU. And the gray is key--if it were black it would be kind of too much, but the gray is fab.

  • Marley replied 9 years ago

Oh my goodness - you're wearing gray! Love Love Love it! My favorite version is the cowl neck style.

  • Deborah replied 9 years ago

Such love for the grey jacket ...wrap..thingy:) Thank you! Maybe now I should share that this is one of the few 'thrifted' items in my closet :) I don't thrift much but I do like to browse thrift stores. I have a rule that I only buy things in excellent condition that are 'different' and/or a little 'unique'. This was a super find. I did recently find something similar in black in a little boutique in a small town an hour away and was very tempted but it really read too heavy in the black... I was sad :( xx

  • goldenpig replied 9 years ago

This is such an awesome outfit! Edgy, arty, and hip. Love the lighter grey over the black. The cowl version is so cool. I love your dramatic style! Neutrals are anything but boring in your hands!

  • AJ replied 9 years ago

What a fun piece and a gem of a thrift find!!

You have styled it fabulously! Dramatic yet effortlessly chic! How do you do it?!

Is it a fleece vest? It looks so warm and cosy!

  • Angela K replied 9 years ago

I'm late to the party again--but I had to tell you how awesome you look.  Absolutely love the vest!  :)

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

I love the soft grey of this and the way it drapes. So many versions with only one piece! Nifty indeed.

  • ironkurtin replied 9 years ago

    Love!

  • Janet replied 9 years ago

You do drape like no one else! I love the grey on you.

And oh yes, I definitely remember Visage! I still have a couple of their records in my vinyl collection. :-D

  • Kat replied 9 years ago
