WIW : Evolution of An Outfit

Happy Sunday Ladies!

I was seriously lacking inspiration this morning and in truth, I didn't feel like getting dressed:( And for the first time in ages, I changed quite a few times before I headed of to church.

#1 is what I wore to church, and #2 is how the outfit started.

#2 just wasn't working to my eye and as I considered changing yet again, I decided to reverse the proportions. Long on the bottom, (unrolled the pants) and short on top (messy tuck the blouse).

What do yo think? This worked much better to my eye and it felt, and I hope, looked good.

Do you see what I see? Thanks for looking.

xxx Deborah

Yep. I agree the proportions are better in #1. Very pretty!

I think they both look good.  I actually really like the rolled pants to show off your awesome sandals.

    Good job.

  • peacechick replied 10 years ago

I think both work but #1 looks more polished while #2 is more casual.

I prefer #2.  In the pic, the rise on the pants seems a bit high for a messy tuck -- could just be the angle of the photo.  I love the feminine print in the strong, modern silhouette!

Some days are more decisive than others!  This is when you say:  "This is why Jesus wore the same robe every day!"

I think #1 was indeed better. Great top and vest!

Beth Ann, busted! Yes that is correct about the rise. I am making do at the moment as I can't find a really good replacement for these pants. Normally I manage the tuck but I can see its a bit off :(

And Jesus had something! There is much to be said for developing a signature look or uniform:)

I do prefer the pants unrolled here but both looked good!
It is hard to dress when you know it will be hot by the end of the day, and probably cold again by tomorrow night!

It always amazes me the last minute micro-adjustments that seem to be necessary to make an outfit just right!

I love this lesson in proportions. I know that when I don't get the proportions right (I think I'm about the same height - I'm 5'1") I feel really frumpy. It makes me realise that little adjustments can make a big difference to how you feel, not just how you look.

You look much taller in #1 with the legs unrolled.

Yes, I do see and I think you are very clever. The second styling shows off the shoes better though.

You made the right call! It definitely looks better with the pants unrolled, though as Penny says, it's sad to miss those shoes! But they will get another outing. And when you were sitting people would have seen more of them, which is also a nice detail.

It's helpful for me to see that the perfect looks you post don't magically appear when you open your closet. Yes, you know your style and buy interesting, well-made clothes that convey it. But the shopping is just the beginning, isn't it? Thanks for showing us your process.

Good call on changing the proportions and I love the pop of cobalt shoe!

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

I agree that proportions are better in #2.
I think you need a skinnies pants that those straight legs for rolling the cuff.

  • dustt replied 10 years ago

really good call - the longer bottoms shorter top is a great look on you and that little pop of cobalt on the sandal is really fun.  I'm also coveting that white watch!! Nice touch!!

Don't you hate mornings like that? Well I think you made the right final decision. This is a beautiful outfit with great fluidity, color combo and pattern.

I like #1 better.  Having the white top looking shorter puts more emphasis on your face somehow.  The top untucked in #2 looks a little bit droopy.

I do like the pants rolled to show off the beautiful sandals, but think they would look better worn this way with a different top.
