WIW: Dress Over Pants

Hi Ladies,

We are easing into Spring and today has been our warmest day so far at 25 celcius. I seem to run cold and often get it wrong this time of year either ending up too hot or too cold. Today I managed a good balance.

Draped Dress over skinny leg pants, D'Orsay flats and minimal silver jewelry.
I did wear a jacket to work but left it off for the day and the trip home.

I feel I look a bit 'brickish' in this. As much as I love the dress, I really don't think it's my most flattering. It tends to look better with a another layer (jacket, cardigan) over it. Truth be told I would really feel better in a heel but I am super busy at the moment so flats are good, and I love these shoes and don't want to leave them languishing in my closet.

Thanks for looking and your feedback always very much appreciated.

xxx Deborah

Actually I find without a jacket very flattering Deborah- the bare skin does the trick beautifully :)

Thumbs up from me! looks great without a jacket, too!

wow, i really like this. love the D'Orsay flats with this, i think they complete this outfit.

Thanks so much Lyn D, Lyn67 and kkards! I was having one of "those" days. My arms haven't seen the light of day since about May and I was sure someone had swapped my arms for the arms of a middle aged woman when I wasn't looking lol!! And time to shift some of that lovely winter padding:)

Looks great to me too - including your arms!

I think this is perfect as is and wouldn't change a thing! Transition dressing is SO difficult but I think you have achieved a perfect balance while staying true to your style.

Lovely early summer look, Deborah! Your shoes look great with your skinny pants, and it's nice to see a bit of skin between the pants and the shoes.

I'm also admiring the proportions of your quite-stunning silver pendant with the dress.

Yet another great example of your style Deborah. I love the way you've put this outfit together and wouldn't change a thing. I was just thinking about what I'll wear in the morning, and I haven't done all black for a while....you've motivated me to do an all black look tomorrow. Your hair is fabulous too!

A fabulous look exactly as styled. I could see you rocking similar pieces all in light neutrals to echo the colors in your hair.

You do dress over pants to perfection! That is an absolutely stunning pendant as well. I love the simplicity of this outfit. You look fab - not brickish in the least! Love the phrase "flats are my good"... must remember that one ;)

I don't recall ever seeing such a stylish brick - lol! Seriously, this looks fabulous on you Deb and I see nothing unflattering at all. Love it!

I love this look!  The long necklace looks great with the dress.  I like the shoes but I frequently feel a little short/stumpy as well when I wear flats with certain outfits.

I feel the same in my similar Allsaints dress, but I think IRL the movement of the dress prevents any brickishness!  This is a very nice and very you look.

This is a beautiful outfit on you, Deborah. Another vote for no jacket here. I like it as is! I also love the flats with this outfit. The d'Orsay cut shows a lot of skin, which I find really flattering and leg-lengthening on you.
Are these your new pants? Or are the ones you're replacing? (Or something different?)

I think this is flattering Debra.

I really like this on you Deborah. Is that a Metallicas dress? Inspirational as usual :-).

  • Thistle replied 9 years ago

Fabulous and flattering. I don't see brickish at all.

Love the way you layered the dress over the pants. Practical and stylish!

I don't see brickish..I do love the column of black with a beautiful necklace.

I was thinking of you as I put together the outfit in my most recent post. I like the dress over pants formula on you. I see what you mean about "brickish" but I think the cap sleeves minimize that as do the subtle curve of your hips. I think it's very flattering. I don't think you need a topper but if you feel better wearing one then by all means I trust your eye for your own silhouette. Marking as a favorite.
