WIW: Draped Cross Over Top

Hi All

This is what I'm wearing today:)

New straight leg stretch jeans. These are high waisted and are great for holding in my flabby tummy:)

Grey draped cross over top with white cami underneath. What do you think? I have made sure I have the slim pants underneath to counteract the volume of the top.

I have tried to bookend the black booties with the touch of black in my pendant.

I'm hoping this works because I bought this top in black too.

Thanks so much for looking
xxx Deborah

That is one beautifully draped top, Deborah! Styled very nicely here, and I would expect the black to work really well for you, too. Maybe with a colorful cami/tank underneath? Ooooh how about emerald with the black? I think perhaps the jeans are a touch long if they're straight leg, though. That is a little more scrunch than I like to see on a non-skinny hem opening.

Thanks Aida! Yes I think color under the top will be good:). The jeans need taking up!! I have folded them under cos I'm lazy!! I wondered if anyone wld notice:)

Stunning. Love the drape and how you have balanced voluminous and tailored!

You do drapey outfits so well Deborah!

It's hard to come by good high waisted jeans (I like them for my tummy too) so those are definitely keepers. The top has nice dramatic draping...perfect for your artsy style! No question that you needed to duplicate in black. : )

Lovefest. I MUST find a sweater/top like that. Rock on.

    VERY nice!

I love! Shows your great legs. Drapy top looks great!

  • sarah replied 11 years ago

Very pretty top on you! I love it with the white cami, and wonder about pairing that combo with lighter shoes, and trying a black cami with the black shoes. Just wondering...

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

Great top and the jeans look good too. I might try to match the cami with the jeans to put the focus on the top but it looks great as is too.

  • Jenava replied 11 years ago

The top is beautiful and stylish, and I love it with the skinnies. I'd like to see this with a lighter colored shoe as an option? Just to mix it up?

  • KathyL replied 11 years ago

What a great flowy top! I love this color and it pairs so well with the skinnies.

I love this top Deborah!! And I love this entire outfit. You look terrific. I keep trying to find toppers for your long striped black skirt - how about this top in the black?

  • Reneeb replied 11 years ago

I love that top it looks so good with the skiiny jeans. Did you get that at Nordstroms? It is hard to find tops like that for petite bodies. All I have found are too long.

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Glad you like the top because obviously I am wearing it so I cut the tags off!

Aida, Sarah & Jenava, I totally agree that a lighter shoe would have been best here. I went to my closet looking for something I didn't have this morning... A dove grey bootie was what I wanted for this outfit. My taupe booties may have worked but I felt the tones were too different. I shall work on this.

Christy you are so sweet. I did think about the black version to go with my striped skirt and I'm going to try it. The back of the top comes down to the bottom of my bottom (does that make sense?) so I don't know if that makes it too long to wear over the skirt?

Renee, I'm in Australia and I bought this at a store called Katies.

Love the drapy top Deborah, and I was about to ask 'where from' but you beat me to it.
A great one to get in both colours because you can change it around with what you put underneath. Are the jeans royal blue or is it just the photo? The top looks blue too in my monitor.

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Thanks Lyn. The top is grey and the jeans are a dark wash with some fading at the front:)

  • Lyn D. replied 11 years ago

    Oh. ta- very nice!

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

Great top and perfectly styled! I like the dark shoe. However, I am wishing you would shorten the pants a little so there is less of a break/bunching which interrupts the long lean line of the straights.

ETA -- just to explain the way I like this silhouette -- a dramatic statement top with bigness, volume -- needs to be paired with a clean, minimal straight line (so no contrasting shoe to me). It just keeps the whole look that much more minimal and dramatic. Just my preference, of course, not right or wrong.

You've done it again Deborah!!!! Pulled off a truly great style!! You are one heck of a gal, who IMO does YLF proud! I could go on and on, I so love this look, but this has been my mid-morning coffee break, and I've got to get back to the day-job! Well done YOU! :-)

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Denise I promise to take up the jeans. I get lazy because I ALWAYS have to take up my pants:(. I might even do it tonight:).

I appreciate your thinking re this silhouette and I would agree. That's why I wasn't too bothered about not having lighter shoes, even though lighter was my first thought and I would like to have the option. Sometimes I find that it can look like a person is wearing two different outfits if the top and bottom don't connect.

La Francaise you are so kind with your comments. Thank you!

Gorgeous drape -- just the right amount of volume, and a good length. Except you make me feel the oppressive heat (and broken A/C) even more.

Bank to the tank top for me.............

  • Janet replied 11 years ago

That is a great top on you -- dramatic yet somehow easy. I like the idea of keeping the shoe and pants in the same color tone with a top this dramatic.

  • Kirti replied 11 years ago

Wow this top is a stunner! I love the drape and I'm sure it would be lovely in black!

  • Vix replied 11 years ago

Man, a gal can't cheat about hemming with our eagle-eyed members around, ha!

The top is stunning on you and it's a good thing you're so far away from me. Something like this is so fun to experiment with re underlayers -- light as you've done to blend with top, darker to create a column of color and blend with jeans/darker bottoms. I could also see it potentially working over a sheath dress depending on where the hem hits.

I'm with those who like the long tonal line of jeans + shoe. [Plus it's cold where you are now.]

    Enjoy!
