WIW : Crazy Morning!

Hi Ladies

I cannot believe how much happened this morning before 9.30am :). End result was me running late for bible study and having about 5 mins to choose an outfit, get dressed and go:(. (I love taking my time to get ready in the mornings)

I was pouring over photos of Kate Lanphear (Style Director Elle USA) last night which I think may have influenced me reaching for black and grey this morning. Hoping I have added a little edge today.

Black Sleeveless dress
- would normally opt for a pencil shape skirt but wanted a change and something a little more "fluid"

Black and grey sleeveless tunic (over dress)

Waterfall jacket

Sandal booties

Silver accessories

Didn't make picture but carrying large red croc print clutch:)

Does this combo work. Suggestions and thoughts much appreciated.

xxx Deborah

I would never think to layer like this but it looks so good!

Arty and fab, Debs! You layer with the best of them.

Kate Lanphear wears *so much* black. I love it when she breaks it with navy or white.

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

Agree exactly with arty and fab! The skirt is just the right length.

    Looking fab!

So funny, I actually have a girl crush on Kate Lanphear, I love every single outfit of hers. I have dozens of pictures saved! I actually searched long and wide for a tee like this and gave up!

I love your outfit! Looks perfectly put together to me, and very artistic (never would have guessed you had a crazy morning).

So glad this wasn't a big mistake :). I like the feel of this and it's a nice change to my work persona).

Angie in all the pics I looked at Kate wore black, grey, white, navy (not a lot though) and only one photo wearing red! I think she is late 30's and I do feel the black, as incediblly cool as it looks, does age her:(. I can imagine how flattering it would be for her to swap black for navy and still look "cool"

Zap she is one of my style crushes too:). You are probably familiar with this site?

She spent 8 years in Australia working at Australian Vgue and then Australian Harpers Bazaar. We feel we can kind of claim her as our own:)

The layers are fab; you look cool & calm (both senses of cool).
I love her style - except for the heels - eek!

Deborah, you are a Queen of Layering with this amazing outfit and should give lessons. Not many could do the volume over volume, but it looks great on you.

OMG Deb! 5 min for that??? Are you kidding? You put this outfit together for the first time??? It is such a sophisticated look, you certainly have to have the right clothes for that! Not easy...I know...BUT:
This is hi-lo, cascade, and layering high!
    Gorgeous!
    And so You!

Thanks Caro and Joy, I do love to layer:).

Lyn you are always co complimentary and encouraging...thank you. In the shower I decided to wear an open weave top over the dress but it didn't work, so I grabbed the tunic and that had to be it. Some days it works other days not so well:)

Excellent! So creative and works really well.

You'd never know you had only 5 minutes. I love the effect of the tiered layers.

I love how you layered these pieces to create such a fab outfit! You always look so fab, Deborah. Thanks for the inspiration!

5 minutes - that's really professional! You look really great, and I adore the fluidness of this outfit. Well done indeed!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

This good in 5 minutes? Shoot, I couldn't look that good with 5 hours!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

Agreed, Debs. I find KL's all black outfits very harsh (and unattractive). But that is the look she is going for - it's very deliberate! It's thought of as the c-word. I love the modern '80s vibe she has going on though!! I pinned one of her photos where she is wearing navy and black.

  • Carole replied 11 years ago

Wow, extra fab outfit, you always look so chic and put together.

  • Jamie replied 11 years ago

So fab and chic! I really love your booties, too! Could you come over to my house for about 5 minutes and throw together some equally fab outfits? :)

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

This is a fave for me! I love how the waterfall cardi almost looks like a cropped jacket against the tunic.

  • Isabel replied 11 years ago

First of all, I LOVE the fact that you want to look a "little edgy" for Bible study !!!! That is so great.

Your outfit is just fantastic. I don't recall seeing you in black much before.

SUCH gorgeous layering! The keys to this working so well to my eye are the bits of exposed legs and arms, they really lighten the look up JUST the right amount. Lovely!!
