WIW: Colour Me Black

Hi Ladies,

Inspired by Stephanie at Oddessy Home I couldn't help myself but go for an all black ensemble today.

Once again it is warm but thankfully a little cooler and we are expecting 29 today.

The dress is like a matte satin that is crinkled. It was more of a special occasion dress before I hacked the length recreating the asymmetrical hem around knee length. The right side of the hem (my right) is actually tied in a knot. I can unknot and this creates quite a dramatic uneven line.

Because I can't help myself, I layered a sleeveless, draped topper, and added black flat sandals. Mesh watch, black and white earrings and no other jewellery.

This creates a similar silhouette to another dress I posted recently but IRL is actually quite different given the textures and hem.

Good reuse of a old dress, or am I deluded :)

Thanks so much for looking.

xxx Deborah

Looks good to me! I really like the unusual shaped neck and hem on the dress. I think the draped topper adds an extra dimension. Your addition of just minimal jewelery seems spot on to me.

Great new life for an old dress. Love the asymmetric neckline, would like to see the dress without the knot too.

What a pretty dress, and shortening the hem was a great way to get more wear out of it. I like it both with and without the topper. Without the topper, and with the hem tied in a knot, it looks comfy and casual. The topper gives it a dressier look. Love those earrings!

Very cool dress. And made even cooler by the add-ons you chose. Sandals are absolutely perfect with it!

Pretty dress and I love the layering!

Well I like it with the layering and like it without also! Great job hacking the hem!

This looks wonderfully stylish for a hot day. I'm so glad to see you wearing dark colors in the summer! I love to do this because I feel cooler in black than in white in the heat...like I'm in the shade.
I love that sleeveless topper as a way to stay cool and still layer.

You did a great job with the layering. I think you were able to give new life to an old dress. :)

Ah -- you are a reminder that I will someday be warm again!

Looking great in this arty look. Love the draping and the ease.

Perfect layers and I love the interesting hemlines.

I love this! You do asymmetry really well. (Have you ever had an asymmetrical haircut? Just curious). Love the neckline of the dress and the fact that you altered it to make it more wearable for every day. Those sandals are one of my favorite styles.

I like the frock both layered and un-layered! Perfect for a very hot day sans a/c.

Love the asymmetry of the dress on you Deborah and it works perfectly with your style. I have a black Helmut Lang dress with almost an identical neckline and it is one of my favourite pieces.

    Great look for you!

The dress looks good both ways!

Never thought you'd hear this from me but I prefer it on its own - it looks cooler round the neckline somehow. Great alterations!

I like it both ways too, Deborah. I would be very handy to have the versatility for in the air-conditioning and outside weather conditions during the Summer.
Great alteration job to the perfect length.

Very cool! I'm not sure if it's one of your style words or not, but it's quite avante garde.
