WIW : Black, Red & Skulls

Happy Sunday Everyone!

This outfit features a blazer I haven't been wearing much. It gets moved to the cull pile and then creeps back into my closet lol. I like it and I think it plays well in my closet, I just have to remember that it's best with a skinny leg jean or pants. It's also a weave and not a knit so there is no stretch and I seem to have much lower tolerance these day for garments that don't move and stretch with me.

Outfit consists of red suede ankle boots, black skinny jeans, black drape tee and boyfriend (?) style blazer and topped off with cream and black skull scarf.

Red is one of my accent colours and I do love how the red boots 'bookend' with the red lip. Footwear is one the few ways I like to bring in a little colour, it's subtle but at the same time not:)

Question for you all... how do your outfits start? I often wake with two pieces in mind. So this morning it was the blazer and red booties and I built the outfit from there. How does it work for you?

Thanks for looking. Does this work to your eye? I would like to get more wear out of the jacket.

xxx Deborah

It works very nicely to my eye, although I chuckle at wearing skulls to church. I like the surprise of the red booties.
My outfits usually start with the weather. We always check forecasts in the evening and often again in the morning. Things can change quickly.
From there my inspiration can come from a piece I want to wear, from this site, and from what's clean and pressed, and what is planned for the day. On Sundays I always wear a dress or skirt, trying to go against the casualization of dress at Mass. When I started this practice I was the only woman in a skirt. Now more than half are wearing dresses or skirts. I believe that most women really want to dress up a bit and will follow if someone leads. They just don't want to be the only one.

Deborah - that blazer has an excellent shoulder line , but I want the sleeves to be shorter.  Or pushed up?  I jumped straight to your post (because I love your look for starters) because anything with a skull motif has my name on it.  Is that a McQueen?  I have one, and I often build the entire outfit around it when I want to wear it, which is almost every chance I get in our winter months.

Red booties and red lipstick are so great  - again, I love your look. You do it very well.

I love this! If it isn't too uncomfortable keep the blazer.

Thanks Joy... and Im a Pastor's Wife to boot lol.  I do like being a bit naughty sometimes hence the skulls at church :)  And I agree, women just need someone to show them it's ok to 'dress up'... I am glad you do.

Lisa, the scarf isn't a McQ:(  But given how much I enjoy it, I have considered investing in the real deal:)  The sleeve length does need adjustment... I keep forgetting:)

Thanks Elle, I think I will keep the blazer, at least until I can replace it with something with a bit of stretch :)

I like the blazer too Deborah!
You wear those red shoes with great 'Pizazz' :)

At this point of Winter I am trying to wear items that have only had 1 or 2 outings for starters, then the weather dictates the layering and footwear.
Or I am inspired/reminded of possible outfits on YLF.
If I have something new it is a no-brainer that I will want to wear it straight-away too.

Deborah, love this outfit, the opo of the red boots really make it. After 6 weeks away my main criteria is anything that wasn't on holidays with me!

Does this work??? Oh my YES!!! I literally said that out loud when I opened the pics. Love the pop of red (those are fab) and the white of the skull scarf near your face. I think the fit of the blazer is fantastic and I hope it stays in your closet.

My outfits often start with my footwear. If my knee is bothering me and I know I need to wear a certain pair of shoes or boots for comfort, that's where it begins. Lately my outfits also start with one of my EF dresses and then I choose a topper and footwear.

Love the blazer, I think it looks very modern and the fit is fantastic.  Overall great outfit, love the pop of red and the scarf!

For me, the outfit of the day is always a balance between the weather and daily activities on the one side, and then a specific piece/idea/or Angie's post of the day I would like to put in practice.  But the first factor is always am major staring point, especially when it comes to footwear.

Of course it works.  I think if your scarf had a few splashes of the red it would "carry" the shoe color up to your lip better, but who cares really. The shoes are gorgeous and must make you so happy!

    The lip-colour is key :)

Killer to the power of Killer

This is my favourite way to see black from head to toe. The cream in the scarf is beautifully softening, flattering and pretty. xo

Great use of red in the booties and lip color! The blazer looks like a good versatile piece to keep. Maybe it will find a more permanent home in your closet? :)

As far as getting dressed -- I usually dress around one particular piece in mind, pants, shoes, whatever.

European churches were decorated with skulls in the 15th century & later.

Very nice! I love wearing my red boots with black pants.

Since I am in the midst of wearing the 20 outfits I out together to wear for 4 weeks, it's been really easy to get dressed in the morning. Otherwise I start with 1 piece in mind, then flit to something else, then another, until I'm late and I have to just go with something!
