WIW: Angie's Semi Structured Trouser Ensemble. Edit: Pic W/O Scarf

Good Morning All!

We this is my attempt at Angie's formula:)

My sweater is much brighter IRL and is I think longer and boxier than Angie's purple one. The trousers are a knit so not totally structured.

Dressed to take MIL shopping for something to wear to the family wedding in August.

What do you think? I usually wear a heel when I wear this sweater. My oxfords only have a 1 inch heel.

As always thanks so much for looking.

xxx Deborah

Edit: Added #4 in response to Marley's suggestion re scarf and #5 is how I wore the sweater last time:)

I think it works beautifully. You look elegant and relaxed.

I like the formula a lot, but I've scoured my wardrobe, and just don't have anything that will fit the bill.

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

I think it looks great. I bet this green color is beautiful with your eyes and hair!
I liked the shape of Angie's sweater and was considering to buy it but that muted teal color did not excite me enough to pull the trigger. I hope we can score something similar later in the season, JR!

  • annagybe replied 11 years ago

Looks good. I think the pants are substantial enough to pass muster.

  • Jenava replied 11 years ago

I think it looks great! I like the casual but pulled together vibe that the oxfords give it.

  • merwoman replied 11 years ago

    Super look!
Love how your watch echoes the white in your two-tone oxfords and scarf. Lucky MIL to have you help with her wedding shopping!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

I think this works perfectly Deborah! Love that colour of green on you (have we seen you in this green before?) and I think the trousers and sweater have just the right amount of structure and shape. Lovely!

  • Tanya replied 11 years ago

I am coveting that footwear missy. :) I would love to see this sans scarf. Just curious.

  • Jonesy replied 11 years ago

I think it looks fab! I really love this color on you.

  • Diana replied 11 years ago

Love this, Deborah! This looks so luxe and effortlessly elegant, and I love that the oxfords make it just a little bit fun and funky.

  • Parsley replied 11 years ago

    You look casually elegant, Deborah!
I love that color of green on you, the trousers look good, the oxfords are superb, and I like the scarf with the outfit.

  • sarah replied 11 years ago

Deborah, this is lovely on you! Well done!

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

I love this look on you, the bag and shoes are irresistible.

I love how your wardrobe (and your weather!) permit you to just reach in and duplicate Angie's formula instantly. What fun for you, and vicarious instant gratification for us! The green color looks good on you, too. :)

  • Lyn D. replied 11 years ago

Yes, this is lovely Deborah. I would like to try this one, but only have dressy bootleg black pants or jeans- nothing in between!
This would look good with a shorter jacket too, I think.

  • Kari replied 11 years ago

I particularly love the shape and color of the sweater, and the black & white oxfords. The details of your outfits make each one seem very tailored to your personal style even when you're originally inspired by someone else.

  • AJ replied 11 years ago

Oh great job in shopping your closet! I likey!

  • Marley replied 11 years ago

LOVE those shoes! And that shade of green is perfect for you. Did you try the outfit without the scarf? Id like to see it that way - to me, it almost seems like there is too much fabric when you include the scarf. Also, I remember Angie talking in her blog post about doing a semi-tuck with your top - did you try that? It might make your pants look a little more structured. Although I love those oxfords, I'm wondering if a shoe with a heel would work better for your petite frame? Thanks for posting!

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Thanks! It was fun being able to work one of Angie's formula by shopping my closet:)

Have added pic without scarf:). Still winter do the scarf is a bit of a necessity today as I have been out and about all day:)

Marley I do normally wear a heel with these pants and also when I wear the sweater. I agree a bit of height would be best:)

Gotta run (school pick up) be back soon x

  • AJ replied 11 years ago

I like it with the scarf. Without the scarf, my eye goes to the volume at the hem.

  • Marley replied 11 years ago

Oh - thanks for posting without the scarf! So, now I see the neckline of your top (and along with your needs for warmth, as well as the wider neckline) I WOULD wear a scarf - BUT maybe one that hangs down longer in the front? Is the one that you have on an infinity scarf? If so, how about trying one that you can knot in the front and let hang. Sorry - I'm probably driving you crazy, aren't I? Just know that you look great the way it is - I'm just trying to figure out (for myself!) how to improve on proportions!

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Marley I really appreciate your feedback. It is an infinity scarf. I will try what you suggest :)

  • Marley replied 11 years ago

Hey Deborah - I'm headed to bed - but I've marked this thread so I'll check in with you tomorrow! Thanks for being willing to "play" with me! :-)

  • Scarlet replied 11 years ago

    super chic--I love it!

  • Gabi replied 11 years ago

Well done, I love the green colour of your sweater and your oxfords!!

  • lyn67 replied 11 years ago

Love your sweatter Deb and I hope to find a simillar shape for for me, again-too...In fact I have bought a top that was a hi-low hem last summer as was so flattering, but probably so fashion foreward then, that I returned it as never seen this kind of hem on anybody before this spring...Now that was a BIG Mistake:-(((.

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

I think this may be the first time I have intentionally tried one of Angie's forumlas and it was fun. Thanks for your lovely comments.

I note that my sweater is oversized and Angie's is loose but still a closer fit which I think changes the look a bit. I found this to be a very comfortable outfit to wear while I was running around today. Thanks Anna re the pants, they are a ponte so they are 'substantial', however I think a more tailored pant would really be better. While I liked it, I am not sure I felt completely "me" in this.

I have posted an addition picture with a scarf hanging long at the front, and also how I have worn the sweater in the past. Given the oversize-ness of the sweater I think I still prefer a skinny leg under it. Even though the black pants are a slim straight leg there is too much volume on volume for my eye. The more tailored pants Angie was wearing in her post I think creates a somewhat sleeker look. For me it was the Oxfords that make this, otherwise I think it could have looked too bland on me.

JR & Sveta, I do hope you find your version of the sweater.

Lyn I think that a closer fitting sweater like Angie's would actually work quite well over a bootleg jean. It would create a different silhouette but I could see it working.

Kari, such a nice thing to say, thank you:)

Marley, what do you think of the other scarf? is this what you meant?

Lyn67, you are fashion forward and you didn't realise it. Hope you can pick up something similar.

  • Meredith1953 replied 11 years ago

That color of green is beautiful on you and the top works really well with the trousers. I like it with and without the scarf!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

    You look amazing in green!!!

    No more black for you.

    Very on trend!

  • Mochi replied 11 years ago

All these variations are so chic and adorable.

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

:). I copied you Angie so i must be on trend *wink*

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

OOoooh you MUST wear this emerald shade more often Deborah, it's gorgeous!! I like the infinity scarf version best, though all options here work.

  • Marley replied 11 years ago

Oh wow! I like the longer scarf better and I love that striped shirt layered underneath the green one. In fact, you could wear the layered shirts along with the longer scarf. All of these looks are good, so you can't go wrong. I just have to get used to the big unstructed tops - my eyes go cross-eyed when I see them! :-)

  • krishnidoux replied 11 years ago

Great outfits, great colour on you too! My favourite are 4 and 5 by far! Very inspiring.

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Hey Marley, thanks for popping back. I get what you are saying. It's like Angie says sometimes we have to allow our eye time to adjust to a look. It's been a really good exercise for me in terms of getting clearer on what silhouettes I prefer for me.
