WIW : A 100% Emotional Purchase

Hi Ladies,

Hope everyone is well and I know that everyone is looking AB Fab!

I survived my first week of Monday to Friday, and the 3.00 p.m. finish is wonderful. I am feeling challenged and excited about my job (my job share colleague finished up on Thursday) and it's really good to be back in a role where the buck stops with me.

On the fashion front its been fun having to dress for the office every day, and my outfits have been what you would expect... black layers and I am enjoying wearing my jackets. But today (Saturday shopping for new clothes for DS) I felt like a touch of colour so I got out a new cape I bought a few weeks ago. As you know it is Winter here, but our summer seemed to go on for ever and by the time I started looking at new purchases for Winter, a lot of Winter stock was already on sale... win!

I love the ombre effect we have seen in clothing but to date had not seen anything that I liked enough to buy (apart from Brooklyn's ombre black and white jacket *sigh*). This cape is a wool blend, the tones running through are navy, burgundy, soft pink, and grey and the trim around the edges is black. This was definitely an emotional purchase! I fell in love with the colours, taking me a little out of my comfort zone, but the shape and fit are very me.

Today my outfit was all about what I felt like wearing. Not as carefully curated as most of my outfits. I felt like wearing my striped tee and I felt like wearing the new cape.. so I wore them together. Master 13 didn't like the combo. He gently suggested I swap the stripes for a plain white top;) But I liked the combo so I wasn't swayed. Does it work to your collective eye?

I have also purchased two new dresses from Cotton On. A nice soft jersey and the style is so me I couldn't resist buying it in the grey as well as the black.

Thanks for looking. Off to catch up on the Forum.

xxx Deborah

The dresses look great, and they have sleeves- even better!
I would not expect the stripes to work with the cape, but the scarf seems to 'ground' them and somehow it is pleasing to the eye whilst intentionally different.
Happy Weekend to you Deborah after what must have been a tiring first full week of new hours.

Well of course you had me at ombre! I love the jacket and the colours. They suit you very well. It's a really lovely change for you. I think the pairing with the stripes works as a pattern mix. Maybe DS is not fond of pattern mixing! I agree with Lyn that the scarf helps to pull it all together. The new dresses look fab too.

And congrats on making it through your first week!

My first reaction was the same as Master13's - I wanted to see a solid colored shirt. But after the second or third look the combination grew on me. It's certainly more fun and less predictable and it's great if we have fun getting dressed! Good for you that you stuck with it.

I agree with Lyn and Brookyn, it works as a nice pattern mixing. It's different from what we usually see from you but it is still very much part of your personal style.
    Congrats on your new job!

I kind of love the combination, Deborah. After Master 13's observation, you know he has been paying attention :)
Glad the new job arrangements are working out well for you.

Beautiful cape. I love the fabric and the shape.

Oh, I like the stripes with the cape. Nicely done. And those dresses look like they will be workhorses for sure.

This cape is stunningly beautiful and you wear it so well. I love it with the stripes as I think they add to the strong horizontal lines. Just so lovely and so in keeping with your outstanding style.

Oooh, first of all, I adore that cape and love it on you! Dramatic and strong yet soft. It's fantastic! (It will look great layered over the new dresses, too..)

And I adore the combination of the cape over the stripes with the scarf. It's extremely unexpected (esp. on you -- two doses of colour!) yet it works so well. It's the outfit of a person who is 100% confident in her style. You look amazing.

Killer cape. SO fun to see you evolve to some colour and high contrast, Debs. This might work with your pink scarf too.

Love the pattern mixing - works perfectly to my eye. I might have worn a different colour of stripe and scarf, personally (one that is found in the colours of the cape) but the size and scale and the whole look is so cool!  Love it !  And I love those two dresses - I so wish there were North American labels like this at an affordable price- you find the best pieces "down there" .....

I love the cape and was quite surprised how much I loved it with the bright blue striped top.  Very nice addition.

Great cape. I like the pattern mix.

Fantastic coat! I love the stripes combo, altho I'll confess I have no idea how you have such a blue striped top in your wardrobe. Lol, can't imagine how you wore it before the coat.

The dresses look wonderful. Good for winter... I wouldn't mind one today. It's grey and wintery, in classic SF Bay fashion.

The cape is great!  And I like the pattern mixing on you (kids are often very conservative about mom & clothing).

I'd love a report on the dresses when you finally get around to wearing them. How well they wash, whether they ride up etc.  They are so my style. Not on the US site yet (summer here) but I'm going to watch for them
