WIB : Your Thoughts

Hi Ladies,

Had a little shop today!!

#1- #4 is a metallic knit top.  Nice square boxy shape with fluidity.
Made me think of some of the EF tops I have seen.  This is a keeper, unless you see something I don't :)  Not styled btw :) Just wanted to show you.

#5 - #9 is where I need some validation lol!!  I have been keen on adding a long cardigan for winter.  They are everywhere but very few are quite what I want (too thin, too thick, too shaggy etc).   Don't be shocked but I actually didn't want black as I already have a few long draped style cardigans and I wanted something almost coat like.  Not styled here but I did add a scarf as I imagine that is really how I will wear it.  I would also be more inclined to wearing a heeled boot for some height.

Master 12 was with me when I bought it and said it was awful:(  He is often right in his assessments but I thought it was worth bringing home to try and to see what you all think.  If it helps, it would be a casual piece, and is SOOOOO warm and comfy.. but if i have ventured into frumpsville please tell me... it can be returned.

Thanks so much
xxx Deborah

Ok, the first one is definitely a no brainer. Keep!!

On first look I rather like the light grey long cardigan. The only thing that makes me pause a little is the back view shot in #8 as it looks quite long, but as you said you would wear a heel, so that would help nicely with proportions. It does dip down at the back I notice. Having said that though, I do love the drama of it and it looks fab with the big scarf.

The knit top is amazing, it reminds me of a medieval armour shirt!

I like the cardigan, the fabric looks cozy and the siluette is long and bold.

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

That's funny Dixie!  Master 12 said it looked like chainmail!!

Thanks Diane and Dixie, appreciate your thoughts.

I love that metallic top, Deborah - so you and so beautiful.

The long cardigan looks warm and cosy, and I like the way you have styled it, but, like Diane, I'm not sure about the back view.  For me, it's not the length so much as that it seems rather too voluminous.  Just my opinion, though.

  • retailgirl replied 8 years ago

I love them both, esp. the first one. Could you go down a size in the cardigan? The color, ( or non- color!) is a change for you and I like it with the scarf. Looks really comfy and cozy and not frumpy.

  • dakotacheryl replied 8 years ago

Love the top, and I like the cardigan from the front, but from the back not as much. But you can't see the back when you're wearing it LOL. The fabric looks so nice and cuddly, I'd probably keep it too.

Metallic top is fab and  keeper for sure, love it myself, too! I see the coatdrigan is a bit controversial. I love it's light neutral color and slub texture(if that it is called there too?) meanwhile I also have some concerns with the back look, but I bet Angie would still rate  it  killer! Why not wearing the scarf more voluminous on the back and shoulders, rather than front this time? Would reduce a bit from the broadness on the back-and some heeled boots would be a great option, but IMHO not really a necessity, good with flats, too. Great finds!:-)

Wow Deborah we are twinsies on the top.  I have the EF chainette shimmer top below and they are pretty much identical.  I like this faux tucked into cropped skinnies with a nice belt and ankle bootie but I think it's uber versatile and can be styled up or down.    I like the sweater, although I'd love to see it solo without the scarf.  I am kicking myself I did not buy the gray hooded long cardi EF did last year, same kind of vibe.  LIke you cozy bathrobe in feel but a gazillion times more elegant.  Is the cardi blue or gray?  Can't tell from my monitor but it looks very pretty.  But sometimes you just need something totally cozy.  Thumbs up from me.

  • Missey replied 8 years ago

I love both pieces!  The top is gorgeous and the sweater looks super cozy.  Keep them!

  • Janet replied 8 years ago

The metallic top is a no-brainer -- very you, and I see it working seamlessly into your wardrobe. I also really like the long cardigan on you. Others have mentioned the back view, but I think it's perfectly fine -- it's just long and coat-like. I don't expect a voluminous piece like this to look like the most flattering thing ever from the back. (I am famously rear-view averse when it comes to myself, so unless something is truly bad from the back view, I tend to give a pass.)

  • Deb replied 8 years ago

Love the metalic top and the colour and texture of the cardigan appeal. Like others have said, the back looks too long and boxy and wrong on your petite frame. Maybe heeled boots would help, or maybe DS is right. My feeling is the latter.

  • Gail replied 8 years ago

I like both pieces but as others have commented I think the long cardigan looks great from the front view but rather voluminous from the back.

  • approprio replied 8 years ago

The metallic top looks sensational, it's a no-brainer. The coat is very nice too but I'd like it to be quite a bit shorter. If it were me I think I'd pass and keep looking.

  • Marina replied 8 years ago

    #1-4 looks incredible. Undoubtedly a keep! :)

About #5-9 I'm not really sure. I think you may make it work (if someone can is you), but it looks to long to me, so I would keep looking a little more before closing the deal.

  • crutcher replied 8 years ago

Loveth the top..I know you will have tons of places to wear this one..
Now, the longish cardigan/bathrobe/blardigan...not so much...I have to agree with Master 12 who is there with you and sees with fresh eyes, how this one looks...I say, you are way too chic and stylish for this little number and I would concur with M12 that this one can be left on the rack..
(Sorry for the total honesty but if I asked you the same, I would demand you were honest...smile)

  • Olivegreen replied 8 years ago

Like them both. The long coat is not your usual, but it reads comfy and casual rather than mumsie.
Although boys are surprisingly accurate on style. My grandsons used to inspect my outfits very carefully when they were teenish.
But I can see Linda Rodin in this, so it MUST be good :-)

  • Rambling Ann replied 8 years ago

The coat - what are the care instructions? If it loses its shape after a few wearings, can you wash and block it back into submission? Do you have a spare bed on which to block it while damp? Because it's not going to dry on tea towel :-).

The shoulders look like they are knitted in a direction that is less likely to sag, which is a good thing for such a heavy garment, but there is a way to reinforce them if needed and you are handy with a crochet hook. Make a single chain stitch on the inside from shoulder seam, across the back of the neck to the other shoulder seam. It should be invisible from the outside, but the weight of sleeves would be distributed more evenly.  Best to do it early if it's going to be needed, or right after blocking.

  • texstyle replied 8 years ago

I like both of these quite a lot and would be inclined to keep. Not sure why Master 12 didn't like about the coat. It is supposed to be long and cozy - and it would be hard to find the exact perfect length for all of us in a knitted piece.

  • jackiec replied 8 years ago

I'm jumping in to say I love the long cardi-coat. Looks cozy yet bright on you. Just my 2 cents.

PS my boys are very perceptive on style too. Go figure. Too cute ;)

  • replied 8 years ago

Hi Deb - the metallic top is perfect, as you know :)  I'm another who isn't fond of the coat - from the back, anyways.  It;s just a little too heavy and boxy looking for you - you read delicate and flowy, not heavy and thick :)

  • Kirstjen replied 8 years ago

I like them both.  I think the coat looks great.  I actually like it better than the top.

  • Karin L H replied 8 years ago

The first top looks great, super cool! And I like the cardigan - but I'm a big fan of cosy items...

  • rachylou replied 8 years ago

I love - LOVE - the sweater coat. I think sweater coats are great in general, and this one fantastic in particular. You look cozy not roly poly.

The *chain mail* is a great piece. I can see it being what's needed for quite a few outfits/occasions.

  • Aziraphale replied 8 years ago

I think they are both keepers. Your son is wrong! That cardigan-jacket has nice drape and nubby texture, and isn't frumpy at all. I think you're right about styling it will a little heel, though.

  • E replied 8 years ago

I love that top on you! Gorgeous. :D The cardigan is great from the front and side; it's not quite as flattering from the back but I think it's JFE. It looks so cosy!

  • Helena replied 8 years ago

Great additions Deborah - even though not black, totally cohesive with your palette and style. Like them both. Wondering if the JFE back shot is because you had hands in pockets, or perhaps the angle of the photo gave it a slightly wider look in the photo ... I feel like in person it would look great.

  • Angie replied 8 years ago

I really like the metallic top. Have you tried a size down, Debs?

HAH. You can count on Master 12 to give it to you straight. We need those boys in our life. I do understand his reaction though. That cardi - with it's texture, shape and colour - looks a little like a bath robe. I'm not a yay - but could be convinced that way if you styled it differently. But is it really worth the effort? It's up to you.

  • Beth Ann replied 8 years ago

I'd love the cardi coat it it was a bit shorter, and perhaps a bit of an A-line.  I've been searching for one myself for years!

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

Of course you must keep the metallic top. Can you layer long sleeves under it? I like the long sweater coat with the scarf. Quite dramatic, but I wonder if it is too big when looking at it from the back. Love the texture and it will brighten your black pieces.

  • Aquamarine replied 8 years ago

Gorgeous top! I want it myself!

I like the cardi from the front but agree it's rather shapeless from the back. BUT that's the nature of the beast I think.

Aren't you petite? Do you think the proportions are for a taller person?

  • Elle replied 8 years ago

Love love love the metallic top on you!   I'm on the fence about the cardigan - something doesn't seem right but I can't put my finger on it.  Maybe if you had lighter bottoms or shoes?  But things look different in real life so take this with a grain of salt.

  • Gaylene replied 8 years ago

Love the top, but the coat--not so much. You carry off the drama of a long sweater coat beautifully, but the color and drape of this one is making me pause. It does look cosy, but, in my books, that alone isn't suffcient reason to add an item to my wardrobe. I think your son made the right call on this one.

  • TraceyLiz65 replied 8 years ago

The top is gorgeous. The sweater definitely reads as more of a coat. Just not sure it has the fabulous flair I think of with your style. Out of the box isn't a bad thing though , do its all down to how versatile it feels to you.

  • Windchime replied 8 years ago

The metallic top is wonderful on you!

Adding my voice to the chorus who think the sweater is close but not quite the right one for you. I like the color and texture very much but my very first reaction to the picture was that it's too long on you. It covers too much of your legs/trousers.

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

Thanking you all for your wise input!  I am returning the cardigan.  It's close to what I am wanting but it's not a 10.  Back it goes.

And Angie, that is the small size in the metallic top:)
