New Hair

Hi Fabbers,

Thanks so much for your kind encouragement on my thread yesterday. It might sound silly but going short was a really scary prospect for me. I can't recall whose thread it was a few days ago about having a pixie cut but she totally nailed my concerns about going shorter... will I look 'big' against the shorter do, will my face look masculine and how 'exposed' will I feel.

So here is the unveiling. Washed and styled by moi this morning. Taking a quick look at recent photos and then these, I *think* I love it. I will just mention that I am feeling a touch sensitive about it. DS doesn't like it but DH did say it looked nice.

As a lover of earrings, I am quite excited at the prospect of all the earring options I will have now. I popped on some silver hoops that have never worked with my longer bob :)

I would love your honest but gentle thoughts.

ETA : Shot of the back :)

xxx Deborah

You have amazing hair, and this style is a lovely and fresh change from what was already a wonderful style.

  • viva replied 10 years ago

I love it! Would love to see a back view as well. But it is a gorgeous cut - you look beautiful!!!!

  • MsMary replied 10 years ago

    This is fantastic!  Love it!!

  • Nebraskim replied 10 years ago

Wow to the wow. This is outstanding. Great cut and color. I am contemplating a similar cut but my dark hair will never have this kind of amazing depth. Five stars.

  • Debora replied 10 years ago

OMG, absolutely stunning, Deborah! A wonderful fresh new look for 2014!

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

Phew, so far so good. THANK YOU!

  • JAileen replied 10 years ago

What a gorgeous look for you!

  • replied 10 years ago

I think it looks great! I think your son just is used to seeing his Mummy a certain way, and doesn't like the change. He'll get used to it :)

  • Sam replied 10 years ago

So gorgeous! You are ROCKING that hairstyle!

  • Susie replied 10 years ago

You look even more beautiful! It is very flattering, not the least bit masculine, just fresh and a bit flirty. I think it really suits you.

  • merwoman replied 10 years ago

Gorgeous! Fresh, modern and totally you! Amazing cut!!

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

This is one of my favorite short cut styles and you are rocking it!  I have considered doing this myself... So beautiful on you.

  • replied 10 years ago

Love love love this haircut! I am sure your son will get used to it.

I love having my earrings show as well.

  • Jenava replied 10 years ago

It's lovely!  I feel like it really brings attention to your eyes.  I know it might feel more exposed, but it doesn't read "bare" at all.  The idea that you could look "masculine" makes me chuckle, frankly.  No way does this make you look the least masculine!  It's very pretty and modern!

  • Caro in Oz replied 10 years ago

I love it. Very fresh & modern. Fab from the back too :)

  • Vildy replied 10 years ago

really, really lovely, you are - and that gorgeous haircut shows it off

  • Peri replied 10 years ago

Very chic! I think it looks great, and not really radically different from what you had, just freshened up. Not too short at all and you have beautiful hair to cooperate with you like that!

  • deb replied 10 years ago

Oh my, it is so cute on you!

  • TraceyLiz65 replied 10 years ago

Very chic!  No worries, this looks fantastic on you!  So brave of you to "Go For It!"

  • rae replied 10 years ago

I think it's utterly gorgeous! Only you will be able to tell if it is a long-term look for you, but enjoy that sassy cut with confidence for as long as you may wish!

  • LACeleste replied 10 years ago

So fresh, so modern, so you!  Love it!

    You are beautiful Deborah!

  • lyn* replied 10 years ago

100% LOVE for the new hair - and a fab lip colour!

  • missvee replied 10 years ago

    Gorgeous!
Shows off your features very well.

  • Echo replied 10 years ago

Your worries could not be further from the truth! This style is wonderfully feminine and suits you perfectly; you look beautiful!

  • Windchime replied 10 years ago

The new cut draws attention to your lovely blue eyes. I think it's very attractive on you, and your stylist did a great job. As far as your son's opinion, ten year old sons have many fabulous qualities, but being accurate arbiters of Mom's style is generally not one of them. :)

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

This a beautiful cut and it's well-executed by your stylist.  It's highly feminine, with the long fringe, and the color is bright, but soft.

    This is a definite win!

  • pil replied 10 years ago

    It truly is stunning, Deborah.

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

Wow, thank you all so much.  I am feeling much more confident now :)  I will pass you on your kind words to my stylist, who is my best friend who has not worked professionally for more than 15 years.  She always did my hair when we lived close but since we relocated I now go to a local salon.  She was excited but nervous when I asked her to do this yesterday so will be greatly encouraged that you think she did an excellent job.  xxx

  • karymk replied 10 years ago

WOWOW! your face looks so FRESH. Youthful! I knew it would be great. You styled this that easily?

When my hair is short, this is how I do it too.  It's been a long time. I keep avoiding it because my face has lost so much fat that I am afraid I'd look like a mushroom head. You definitely do not!

Do you feel feminine? I feel super femme in a short cut with the longer top like yours.  I don't know why.

  • karymk replied 10 years ago

PS Deborah, if this makes sense, it doesn't seem like a 'drastic' change to me since the layers on top are so long.  Isn't it nice to know you have options for different lengths?

  • carambola replied 10 years ago

    Truly beautiful!

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

Kary, yes I do know what you mean.  It's really a shorter version of what I had. I do feel feminine but I also feel very conscious that my brows really need to be maintained better and make up is necessary.  If my face is colourless (which it is naturally) it all looks a bit blah.

  • Debra replied 10 years ago

You look fantastic.....a gorgeous cut that suits you to a T :)

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

Gorgeous! Really and truly gorgeous. And I think it suits your style even better. And your eyes pop out and they are an amazing shade of blue. Walk proud. (In my experience kids don't normally react well to their moms making changes until it is the new normal.)

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

    Killer

    I love it, Debs. xo

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

Oh i was nervous to read your thoughts Angie!!  Thank you.  Your assessment means a lot to me, as do the thoughts of the other fabbers, so I feel I now the have the seal of approval lol.

  • Gracie replied 10 years ago

This a fantastic cut – you look amazing and I loved seeing the back of the style.  I wonder if many ladies keep two sets of earrings - longer and shorter to allow for hair style changes... I do.

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

Debs, the style frames your face beautifully, and brings out your icy blue eyes - shorter hair does that I've found. It's still polished and sleek, which is how you like to wear your hair. Colour is fab too. Of course, I love it. How can I not. xo

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

    Gracie thank you:)

Angie sending you a hug:)  I have wanted to do this for probably the last 12 months but I have been a big chicken :)  My intention is to intensify the blonde a little more in parts and grow the 'fringe' a little longer :)

  • Lyn D. replied 10 years ago

Oh Deborah-I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings-
    But I am NOT :o
Super sleek and fresh and Fabtabulous!

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

Lyn you are so naughty!  But funny.  Thank you :)

  • WingGirl replied 10 years ago

    Smashing! I love it!

  • Catnip replied 10 years ago

Truly beautiful!  It makes your blue eyes more noticeable and also makes you look young!  I've been contemplating a similar cut for several months, and you may have given me the courage to proceed.

  • Janet replied 10 years ago

Fantastic! I liked your old hairstyle but I love this. It suits you so well! You look beautiful. :-)

  • Debbie replied 10 years ago

    I think it looks amazing!

  • Jeanie replied 10 years ago

It's beautiful, soft, and feminine.  Not at all masculine.  I am a big chicken about going short and looking masculine so I understand that fear.  How fun it will be to wear all those earrings!

  • Missey replied 10 years ago

So gorgeous and perfect on you!

  • Parsley replied 10 years ago

Oh, Deborah, you look just beautiful!
Really it's not a tremendously drastic change, but it looks even more trendy and edgy and perfect with your style.
It's always hard to make a change, but I don't think you'll regret taking the plunge. This is a terrific style for you. Big thumbs up from me!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Oooh!! I am late to this thread but so excited to see how beautiful you look! It's a really lovely variation of what you already had. Yet feels like a real change. You have done it at just the right time of year for you, too. Shorter always feels fab in summer to me. Love the earrings as well.

  • amiable replied 10 years ago

Ahh!  Love it!  This is the cut I was hoping for (and am still hoping to grow mine into!)

  • karymk replied 10 years ago

Cant' wait to see your wiws with this cut.  Maybe you want to introduce a new pop color in your shoes and bags now too? We've seen the cobalt, what else could you do? It's summer there, do you wear tan, taupe, whites with metals and color pops on the feet? Your earrings will be key now too. What will you go for?

  • karymk replied 10 years ago

Amy I bet yours is getting to a really good stage by now. you got your money's worth, eh?

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

Amy I think yours is looking great.  How good would it be if were all like twist and pull barbie that could grow and shorten our hair at will?:)

Kary, I am really set in my colour palette of black, grey, white and blues.  I have bought a pair of taupe bootie sandals but Im afraid I am a neutrals girl:)  Earring will be fun.  Ofcourse drops will work but also those that drop but are shorter and studs etc.

  • carter replied 10 years ago

Really love it! I was a bit worried about you when it took so long to post picks. I bet you'll end up loving it after the first couple WIWs. I think the shorter cut will be fantastic with your ustructured style.

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

Carter, there is a time difference and I wanted to wash and style it myself before I showed you all :)

  • carolbee replied 10 years ago

Deborah, I have jumped to the end to reply without reading anyones comments. I love it, Love It, LOVE IT!!! You look refreshed, we see more of your face (and thats a good thing) and you get to wear fabber earrings. Win, win.

  • Greyscale replied 10 years ago

Wonderful!! Great start to the new year.

  • Golden replied 10 years ago

I love it, you look amazing!

  • Sharon replied 10 years ago

It's fantastic. I love it. It suits you so well, and I also think it suits your style.

  • Hil replied 10 years ago

Deborah... I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! Is amazing on you. You look younger and a little edgier which will go with your amazing style so well! Just fab!!!

  • jenanded replied 10 years ago

Deborah it does look super lovely on you... and recall Angie predicted shorter hair which with structured bag and shoe complements the more fluid clothing cuts perfectly. You look very fresh and pretty...

  • replied 10 years ago

    Love it!

  • Jjsloane replied 10 years ago

It suits you and your style. It's a gorgeous cut that accentuates your beautiful face perfectly.

  • Inge replied 10 years ago

It looks fantastic, Deborah!! Yay for ringing in the new year with such a gorgeous new do!! (and what beautiful blue eyes you have).

  • kkards replied 10 years ago

    FAB!

  • Aquamarine replied 10 years ago

Beautiful! It showcases your lovely eyes and goes so well with your wardrobe. I think you will love it...I usually need a week to get used to a new haircut.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Absolutely stunning Deb - you have beautiful hair and the prettiest face. This new cut shows both to perfection. And don't worry about DS - he'll come around to the change.

  • Eliza replied 10 years ago

You look fab! Your gorgeous features really pop with the lightness and structure of the cut. Enjoy it!

  • Kimberley replied 10 years ago

Wow, wow, wow!  I love this Deborah - a subtle change but a huge difference.
You look youthful, modern and lovely :)

  • gryffin replied 10 years ago

Deborah - I did not think you could look any more gorgeous but you do!!  Love this cut on you!! It showcases you eyes and lovely bone structure!!   The back of my bob is wedged up like that and I find it so comfortable short!!  You look absolutely, positively, smashing!!

  • donnat replied 10 years ago

    Love it! Looks awsome.

  • April replied 10 years ago

    Just glorious.

This is the kind of cut that makes every outfit look more intentionally stylish, you know?

You look Fabulous! You have lovely hair, and the cut compliments hair, visage, and what I have seen of your style. It's downright uplifting -- fresh, easy, yet with edge and sophistication. Wonderful!

So pretty Deborah! You have a gorgeous elfin face.

  • FlorenceFearne replied 10 years ago

I've been pretty busy at home this last week or so, and haven't been around, but I logged back in to comment as soon as I saw you got another haircut! And of course, you look AMAZING! I'm sure my enthusiasm comes as no surprise, given how much I love similar styles on the likes of Kate Lanphear, but you really, really make this look good. Hits the perfect note between edgy and still classic, and even appropriate for conservative events if needed.

  • MRL replied 10 years ago

Wow that is a fabulous cut! Very flattering and stylish.

  • Aubergine replied 10 years ago

Gorgeous!! And it really does look perfect for showing off earrings!

  • Kyle replied 10 years ago

I missed another thread but had to come and comment here after seeing the picture of your new do on the wall. AMAZING! You look incredible with this new haircut!

  • Katiepea replied 10 years ago

Hi Deborah, I think you hair looks lovely!  It's very flattering and fantastic for summer.  I hope that you are feeling used to it and comfortable with it now.

  • cciele replied 10 years ago

This cut suits you so well! I love it. And I hope you have fun with showing off your earrings :)

  • Bunnyb replied 10 years ago

    Such a cute sassy look!

  • unfrumped replied 10 years ago

Okay, wait for it..... you look younger and more hip! And great.

Shorter, longer--change is life. This was a good change. Some day you may change it again.

Now, living with it is another thing. Not specifically this "do", but sometimes there is a cut that looks great but is hard to style or keep looking like it did at the salon, if one doesn't  have access to daily blowouts! So I'm always sensitive to "hair needs" and lengths that are practical for daily styling--sfor some people's hair type that is shorter, and for some, longer. since I have no talent at styling and blow-drying.

  • annaj replied 10 years ago

It's fabulous Deborah!! I hadn't logged on in a while, and saw you mention your new "do" in another post! I love it!! When I next decide to go shorter, I am taking your photos with me! :D

  • lyn67 replied 10 years ago

Wow Deb,you got 99 comments on your new do! I never have seen one post on YLF with so many comments in my all times here:-)). Then, I came back again, to write the 100th one, too!:-)

    YLF 100x!:-)

  • replied 10 years ago

    Love!

  • CocoLion replied 10 years ago

Comment #102… I love it!!  I think this was extremely the right thing to do.

  • Ingunn replied 10 years ago

I love this on you, pretty lady! Wow! This was the right decision. If I could have smooth, glamorous short hair like that, I'd follow you in a heartbeat.

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

Wow! I was going to wait until my next outfit post to thank you all so very much, but finding this post on page 1 I decided to do it now:).

I cannot express how much I appreciate you all and how touched I am that so many of you have taken the time to comment here.

This cut has been a dramatic change for me, even though it may not seem that much different to everyone else:). Exposing my face more, has been the catalyst for some harsh self assessment and an internal dialogue that has gone something like this... The shorter do makes me look old.....I look like my mum...when I'm tired it really shows...I don't think I look feminine....blah blah blah! I don't share this for any response but more to just be open and transparent about my own inadequacies:).

But your kind and generous comments have moved me from being so self critical to try and see what you see and after a week, I am really loving it. So much so that in the next two weeks I plan to have a little more off the sides and will go blonder:)

And again THANK YOU! It is rare to be part of a community that is so giving, generous, thoughtful and supportive. xxxx

  • Debra replied 10 years ago

Isn't it funny that we are our own worst critics but others can easily see our strengths and what makes us wonderfully individual :) you do look fabulous :)

  • ManidipaM replied 10 years ago

    Late to say: Stunning!!!

And very sassy-pageboy. Sophisticated. Grown-up. But youthful. Dramatic (so Deborah!). A little arty, a little flirty. It actually is very feminine because it lets you play more, and skims the jawline while highlighting the delicacy of the nape and flattering the cheekbones.

    Rave-worthy.

  • In My Joi replied 10 years ago

    This cut ROCKS on you!!!!

  • Hil replied 10 years ago

Deb - I've just read your update and I am so glad to see you are liking it... I was a little concerned after not seeing much from you that you weren't loving it!

  • Nova replied 10 years ago

Love it!  It looks amazing on you.

  • Vicki replied 10 years ago

Deborah, I love your new haircut and you look so beautiful.  The "inner dialogue" you mentioned above is universal and I do hope it has been quieted by all this positive feedback you received on your wonderful look.
