Mismatched Earrings

Hi Fabbers,

I have been seeing this trend a little on line and rather like the idea. And then I saw lisap with mismatched earring in her recent post.

Did a bit of research and like some of the ideas here

http://www.whowhatwear.com/mis.....ngs/slide3

I would still need my mismatched earrings to kind ofmatch if that makes sense. For my style sensibilities there does need to be some connect between the two.

Pamela Love earrings seem like they could work well worn this way (#1 & 2)

What say you? Interested to know your thoughts;). Clearly this needs to look intentional. I can just imagine DH asking if I got dressed in the dark lol.

xxxDeborah

I think I have done this unintentionally - and DH didn't even notice ;)

I am too much of a like-to-match person to go down this track!
Will check-out your link and Lisap's post now...

Halle Berry's is my fav- one looked like she lost her earring or forgot :)

Interesting. I'm liking this look, though I prefer some sort of relationship between the two mismatched earrings.

I've seen around too, and I want to try it! Goes well with my asymmetrical/RATE self.

  • JayS replied 9 years ago

I love anything asymmetrical so this is right down my alley. I got these earrings a couple of years ago and rarely wear anything else. I don't know that I would wear 2 completely different earrings, but I do like them slightly different.

I started doing it awhile ago and wondered too if it would look like I wasn't paying attention while putting  my earrings in :)   I agree, they should be of a similar metal and then of a similar feel -( both delicate, both tough etc).  Have you seen the recent magazine editorials featuring one huge drop earring worn by itself?    I like the idea of one bigger or longer than the other, or two studs of different designs.

I love those Pamela Love earrings above, but wouldn't wear them together necessarily.  But that's a completely personal preference.  Aren't her designs gorgeous?

This is really cool, Deborah!  I could see the look working really well for your style.  Love the whowhatwear inspiration and the Pamela Love styles.

I have dinosaur earrings. One is a tyrannosaurus and the other is a stegosaurus.

A funny coincidence...just this week I started wearing different earrings. I have a silver cuff on my left ear (like photo, only silver) and in my right ear I've been wearing either one or two diamond studs (I have 2 holes in each ear.). I wish the studs were 2 different sizes but a pair is what I have!

I really like the look of the one long earring. If anyone remembers the show thirtysomething, one of the characters used to wear just one earring and I always like the slight quirkiness of it.

I really like #18. Those two look like they were designed to be worn together, same material, same stones, same aesthetic.
I also like #11. It adds a whimsical tone to plain pearl studs.

Ooh-  I like the idea of relating and not matching earrings.  I'm going to have to try that out!

  • Joana replied 9 years ago

I could wear mismatched earrings :)
But as noted above, they have to match in some way.
    I'd love this pair - pricey :(

This was my signature in the 80s. I'd do it again.

  • catgirl replied 9 years ago

Like Shedev, I did this in the 80s I even remember buying earrings already paired this way with a theme - like a fork and spoon, or dog and fire hydrant. Fun!

  • annagybe replied 9 years ago

Wendy Brandes has been promoting this for quite a while now. I'm going to do it, with lips in one ear and a bomb in the other.

Check some of Wendy B.'s singles and pairs!

I like the idea, Deborah, and I think your hairstyle would show off the styling nicely. I like the two you picked to go together. I find the examples on your link really attractive, and I like how they coordinate in different ways--materials design, or theme, for example.

Hey Deborah - I just had to link back to this thread - cuz I want you to see your response!  ;-)

  • Deborah replied 9 years ago

Oh Marley that is so funny, and is still the case.  I love the look but worry that it just wont look intentional, or it will just look contrived on me lol
