K/R & Other Bits:)

Hi Fabbers,

Please note none of these are 'styled' , I have just popped them on to show you how they fit and look in general :)

I have completed my september fast and I will report on that soon. Here are a couple of things that I got today from Metalicus which I would love your thoughts on and the other is a dress I got a couple of months back for the warmer weather (it's a keeper).

#1 Metalicus Marlini Drape Skirt
This skirt feels so lovely. It is a slinky fabric and while the fit is firm it is
comfortable and I can move :) I probably cannot take long strides in this
skirt but I don't think that's going to be an issue as I am no longer running
after a little one (he's bigger and I can catch him now if he runs lol).
Based on wearing it around the house, it doesn't seem to ride up and
does stay in place.

I have tried it with a couple of different tops:

#1 & #2 With the Marlini Drape Top. I particularly like this combo, which is no
suprise a they are part of the same style story and are designed to be
worn together.

#3 Is just a close up of the skirt.

#4 With a contrasting white blouse and sleeveless vest / jacket

#5 With Ink tunic at full length. Is has an asymetric hemline so covers
most of the skirt on one side but reveals it on the other.

#6 Same tunic but semi tucked to reveal more of the skirt.

My assessment of the skirt is that I *think* I will keep it. Looking at the photos I don't think it is too short, but do tell me if it is:) Do my knees look ok?? I prefer it with lower contrast tops or if a higher contrast top like the white I think the top needs to be shorter.

#7 Kahlo Draped Jacket (also from Metalicus) in Navy:) Please note this
does need a good press. Front view

#8 Kahlo Draped Jacket back view.

#9 The Draped Jacket has a loop on the inside back and you can pull the
back hem though, arrange it and then just tuck the "tail" into your skirt or
pants to create a short, blouson look at the back. I did this quickly while
I had it on... it can be done with more panache :) but you get the idea.

I am a little in love with the jacket, and unless you see anything I can't see I plan to keep it. I am very open to your critique. I do think the back drape looks amazing on the models who are not as wide as moi but I am hoping the back view doesn't look too awful.

#10 Metalicus Gene Tank Dress that I bought in July for the warmer weather.
It is a Merino Wool blend and is so comfortable you could sleep in it! I
wear this layered under other pieces but wanted to show you the dress.
Some fabbers have enquired about the fit of the one size fits all pieces
and how they stretch. This is a one size garment and there is loads of
stretch in it, it can be washed in the machine in a lingerie bag and retains
it's shape beautifully. I am hoping the close up pic shows just a how
lovely the fabric is.

#11 Close up of the Gene Tank Dress.

Thanks for reading and looking and I would appreciate your feedback on the new items.

xxx Deborah

I LOVE the jacket & the dress. I'm on the fence about the skirt; I love the idea of it but I'm not loving the proportions with bare legs, nothing fatal but the dress looks better imo.

  • Deborah replied 9 years ago

Thanks Caro! I appreciate your thoughts on the skirt. I am kind of on the fence. I am happy just wearing it with the matching top as the other tops are not perfect, but I would probably wear it with bare legs. I wonder if a shoe will a bit of a heel would make a difference? BTW it is returnable:) And I am trying not to be too attached to it:)

Footwear can make a huge difference can't it. I would love to see some more pics with different shoes/sandals. What about your caged sandals they might "ground" it a little more? :) :)

  • catgirl replied 9 years ago

I am with Caro. I think the skirt needs to be either longer or straighter. The other two pieces look great!

  • Deborah replied 9 years ago

Thanks Una:) This is the second Metalicus skirt I have tried and the other one had to go back. They are one size and I think the reality might be that they just don't work for me. The more I think about it, the more I think I might actually end up feeling very self conscious wearing a skirt this length.

  • CocoLion replied 9 years ago

I love the way you've styled everything here.  You are so skillful when it comes to creating interesting ways of wearing your interesting pieces.  I like the jacket and skirt and top from Metalicus and love the way they work together.  Since you asked, the skirt does look a bit short to me.  Can you size up for a longer look?   The shortness doesn't bother me in the second photo but that must be because you are wearing the skirt with leggings.  Something you may not want to do in Summer heat.

ETA -- I just read the other replies and saw that the skirt is One Size.  :-(

  • Deborah replied 9 years ago

Thank you Denise. The skirt is a one size fits most... so no option for sizing up. I think I might return it on the weekend and peruse their sale items for something else:)

  • Astrid replied 9 years ago

I'm with the others, I love the jacket and the dress! I think I would return the skirt. It does look alright on you, but it doesn't wow me as the other pieces do. I think it's the length.

  • Sharon replied 9 years ago

I like the skirt with the leggings, but not bare legs - it just seems to narrow too severely and cut you off. It doesn't have the loose drape I associate with your style. The jacket and the dress are fab.

  • Deborah replied 9 years ago

Thanks Astrid and Sharon.`The skirt is packed up and I will return on the weekend. Thanks for confirming what I knew but didn't want to face:)

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

I'm late to this party, but just chiming in to say you made the right decision to send the skirt back, Deborah. The jacket and the dress look fab :)

  • lyn67 replied 9 years ago

I'm late to this, but revealed it is all sorted, now, great dress, and jacket, and never mourne the skir, there will come another one, but much better!!:-)

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

I am late to this party but I think you're making the right decisions! :)

I do like the skirt and think it looks good on you, but a little bit of length would improve it, and since that is not possible, back it goes.

The jacket and dress are really fab. I so wish we had Metallicus here!

I think the jacket may end up being something of a workhorse and also a wonderful transitional item for your more business-oriented capsule. It has a bit of straight structure at the front but all that lovely draping at the back. Smart!

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

Love the drapey tops and the blue color! I would probably agree with the short being too short for your style but your knees look just fine and have nothing to do with it!

  • Deborah replied 9 years ago

    Suz, just for you!

They have a store in Vancouver that stocks Metalicus:)

  • Lynne replied 9 years ago

Good call, Deb!  I do like the skirt as a layer piece over leggings, but it pales next to the other items.  The jacket is gorgeous, the fabric at the back is just lovely!

  • amiable replied 9 years ago

Everything looks terrific - love love love the jacket and the dress. Wow!  (I want a jacket and dress like those)

  • replied 9 years ago

I see it's all been confirmed and decided but wanted to chime in to say "hi" anyways, and that it's nice to see you in these new pieces.  My thoughts on the skirt echo the others, and I couldn't help but think it looked so restricting (I know you said it wasn't, but it sure looked too narrow and confining) it just wasn't a "you" piece.

I certainly love your styling and how you make these pieces work together and on their own - and love the back of that jacket!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 9 years ago

THAT JACKET!!!! Oh my word Deb - I'm positively drooling on my keyboard looking at that jacket on you. I adore the color and the details. The unexpected back draping is like a little present, isn't it? When you turn around, people are going to be "oh my....wasn't expecting that, how stunning".

The dress is perfect on you for the heat. And will layer well with a topper when need be.

I agree that although your legs look fab, the skirt is a wee bit short for true versatility. Glad you're passing on it.

Have I mentioned I love the jacket??? :)

  • jackiec replied 9 years ago

Did you say metallicus is available in vancouver??. Wow! I must check that out one day. You have some lovely metallicus pieces.....

Can I just say that I really appreciate how honed in your style is? Everything works so well together, and is so YOU.

Fantastic dress and jacket. Glad but sad the skirt is going back. A touch short, although personally I think it would work for hot weather and bare legs.

Thanks for sharing your purchases. Off to check out that Canadian link :)

  • christy replied 9 years ago

Love, love, LOVE that jacket!!! I think it's stunning on you and will work beautifully with your wardrobe. I'm in agreement with the others about the skirt and glad that you've packed it up. I think it looks great with the leggings, but is just a bit too short without. Although your legs are fabulous! :) My guess is that you would feel self-conscious out and about? I think the IDEA of the skirt is perfect for you - if only you could get a bit of length to it. Great dress too! I can see it playing nicely with your fantastic layering pieces.

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

    Both killer pieces.

Make sure you do the sit down test on the skirt, and can comfortably stride in it too. Open fronts can be tricky. xo

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

Deborah, you have gorgeous legs, and I like the way the skirt looks with the Marlini top. Like others, I'm not as big a fan of it with the other pieces, so your decision seems sound, if you were wanting it to be a versatile, easy-to-wear piece.
I'm with Shannon, just drooling over that jacket on you! And the sewing part of my brain is thinking, hmmmm, how to copy that. . . . Much easier to buy it, I'm sure.
The dress is such a fantastic style on you and ingenious design. Thanks for the photos and closeup!

Late I know, but just wanted to say that the jacket is just beautiful Deborah!
Are you still thinking about the Metalicus striped tunic/dress?
