Update: Tried the jacket! Five Piece French Wardrobe Possible 2nd Piece:)

Hi Ladies,

My wardrobe is in good shape, so much so that I am not browsing or shopping anywhere as much as I usually do.  I now pretty much just keep an eye on Metalicus and Motto on line and even forfeited my Metalicus rewards dollars this month because there was nothing that truly made my heart sing:)

One of the things I have become aware of, is that I am very happy to wear a column of colour (black, occasionally navy) everyday but enjoy having a variety of toppers, and while I generally prefer solids, jackets are where I don't mind a bit of colour and / or pattern - even 'statement'.

SO, with that in mind I thought I would show you a jacket I am thinking about.  This would be my second FPFW purchase.

#1/2/3 is the Motto Marble Femme Jacket, it's a stretch fine knit and is a little reminiscent of Chanel.  I think I will pop in store and try it on over the weekend.  I would love something that has a hint of Chanel styling, but has stretch and can be edged up a bit.

For your info, #4 was my first FPFW purchase last month.

I will let you know how I feel after a try on:)

Thanks for taking a look.

xxx Deborah

I like it.  It is an edgy Chanel jacket.  I like the V neck which I personally find very flattering.  You look lovely in gray.  It is also a very different look from #4 the Coccon topper.

  • Astrid replied 9 years ago

Yes, I like it too. I'm looking forward to hear your report on it. And I agree with Style Fan, it's different enough from #4 that you won't compare the two, even though they're both grey.

  • Brooklyn replied 9 years ago

I like it too. It has great texture. Worthy of further investigation!
Do you ever look at Decjuba Deborah? I think they are in your style zone.

I like and always have a bouclé Chanel like blazer. Nowadays I have 2. One is is similar to yours (stretch knit), but more black than white and has a round neck. It is so comfy, and  fab to wear over a column of all black, all white, or a white top. The other is a classic wool, but leather pippings in bordeaux and black, but  I would like to find one with a V neck for myself, too:-). Love and I say it would be a great piece for your wardrobe, too!

Very nice texture, definitely worth a try on. if you got it does that mean you can only buy 3 more clothing items until next winter? If you are in good shape with current-design pants, first layer tops etc. that will work with this length, then it looks like a good prospect to me. I don't see this fitted style layered over longer first-layer tops as much as I see it given edge with black jeans, moto boots and piled-on pearls. so if it's a layered look you're after, I'd gravitate to more cropped and boxy. Bear in mind though that this opinion comes from someone who is a classic dresser with a complete inability to think outside the usual suspect proportions. I bet you'll find a way to make this truly Deborah :)

I need to see it on! I feel like it's all in the styling as to whether it will read edgy Chanel or staying-in-tonight cardi. I imagine you will be able to achieve the former! Lyn has good examples.

  • Glory replied 9 years ago

Please model it for us. From the pic it looks like it will be wonderful with your wardrobe. A little edgy, still in the colour scheme of preference....

  • replied 9 years ago

It's very pretty  and I love the flash of white showing under the model's dress.

I don't think the model is doing the jacket any favours here though - my eye is drawn to the less-than-square shoulder line .....which is likely a postural thing....and makes the jacket look a little sad on top of her dress.  It needs shoulder pads ?  Over layers, I'm not sure, but I do see it worn as Aliona suggested !

Maybe I am seeing what Lisa is seeing? I had a very similar JCrew knit jacket a few years ago. I loved the looks of it (black and white, nice texture, what's not to love) but didn't love the look on me. I think it was best with black jeans but frumpy with a dress.

I do trust that you would be able to style it with more edge.

  • Elizabeth P replied 9 years ago

I think it has lots of possibilities, but need to see it.  Hint hint :)

  • Maneera replied 9 years ago

Love it! That texture is GORGEOUS. I don't know what you'll wear it with though, Deb...

White shirt? Grey shirt? Actually I haven't seen your summer wardrobe at all, so that's possibly the reason I can't understand how you'll incorporate it into your edgy style. But it's definitely polished and statement-worthy enough to try it on!

  • Carole replied 9 years ago

I can't wait to see these on you, Deborah. I like the fact that the first is shorter and more fitted which seems a like a different silhouette for you, the gray jacket seems like it will fit nicely into your great wardrobe! Anxiously awaiting pictures:)

  • replied 9 years ago

This looks more cardi, and less jacket to me.

  • Beth Ann replied 9 years ago

I love texture in my jackets --- particularly when dealing with a more minimalist tonal palette.  And certainly a few more classic pieces would play nicely against the modernist items in your closet!  I think the question is whether the proportions will work with bottoms in your wardrobe.  I can't predict that until you give it a whirl.   Let us know how you like it!

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

I am on the same page as Beth Ann. I love the texture but need to see it styled.

Love the first purchase, by the way!!

And I am curious about how the whole 5 piece thing works.

  • jenanded replied 9 years ago

I like it... but didn't your mum give you a chanel-esque cardi recently?
Love the grey jacket... do you have a link???
and Birdsnest online has a drapey vest which says you... you will see it as soon as you look in tops... x

  • celia replied 9 years ago

It has potential. I might be confused but don't you have something similar?

  • Caro in Oz replied 9 years ago

This reads a little too classic imo - but no problem if you prove me wrong :) :)

  • Sal replied 9 years ago

I wonder if it is too similar to your Laura Ashley Cardigan...I wonder if you would be splitting wears?

How about some very edgy shoes to add drama to a column of black?

  • unfrumped replied 9 years ago

I love the color and texture and would be interested in how the proportions work with your outfits. Is it something that will be a short layer over a longer top, and how does it stand up to things in terms of structure, since it's not drapey--that sort of thing. If you are able to try it out, that would be fun to see.

  • Adelfa replied 9 years ago

I would not guess that this would work for you--a little fitted, a little short--but I'm open to being wonderfully surprised when I see it on you! I like how the FPFW is making you so intentional. Something for me to think about!

  • Deborah replied 9 years ago

    Thanks for your thoughts :)

I think the jacket is significantly different from the cardigan my mum gave me and I am not sure that the cardi won't be moved on:(. I'm trying but I don't think it's really going to be a player in my wardrobe:(. There is a distinct possibility this jacket will read as frumpy on me but won't know til I try. I don't always later with multiple length hems so this could work with my slouchy tapered pants and item that I tend to wear to the office. I do however I visage it worn with longer layers, but won't know until I try it on. Hopefully will get a chance to go in store tomorrow xx

Hi Ladies, rather than start another post, I thought I would come back here to let you know that that  jacket is is no go for me:)  It is quite lovely but has a metalic thread running through it and the tiny ruffle that edges the jacket is just not me. I did however come home with a new top!  I think that I will have to review my 5 piece thing and probably expand it to 8 or 10?????

It's a nice casual top, that could actually go to work and I think will be the right balance with my culottes.  It will sit nicely under a jacket too.  The model is of course taller than me and the top falls longer on me which I prefer (it's called  the Woolly Crop Bell Top, but not so cropped on me lol)

  • Astrid replied 9 years ago

    Thanks for the update, Deborah.

  • Maneera replied 9 years ago

Now this cropped top is definitely Deborah! I love it! It'll be great on the culottes for sure.....and a long grey/black cardigan layered over when you wear pants.

Your black block heel pumps would definitely amp up any 'casual' factor.....though this top is way more stylish than just a navy tee. Lovely! Can't wait to see you wear it.....perhaps for Sunday church? (Ok...now I'm just being pushy!) ;)

  • Maneera replied 9 years ago

Oh also - I think adding 10 pieces a year sounds way more practical. As you go into your summer wardrobe now, adding summer pieces will also be cheaper, right? So I think the budget difference from 5 to 10 will not be that high....but that's just my opinion I find 5 to be too meager a number.

  • Style Fan replied 9 years ago

Great top.  I agree that a metallic thread and little ruffle are not you.  Not me either.  I love cropped tops.  Or not so cropped tops.

  • replied 9 years ago

This seems much more in keeping with your wardrobe and fits with your movement towards more blue. Plus (for me anyway) finding tops that work with culottes is always a good thing.

  • Elizabeth P replied 9 years ago

    Great top!

  • dakotacheryl replied 9 years ago

Love the blue sweater and seems to be much more "you"!  Is this another Australian brand?

  • Deborah replied 9 years ago

Cheryl, yes Aussie brand made in Melbourne, my home city!
