EF Harems go to a Wedding

Hi Ladies:)

Went to a wedding yesterday and, if you can believe it, I didn't wear all black lol.

I did stay in my comfort zone of long drapey silhouette but stepped out of my comfort zone by choosing colour and a floral.

I have to be honest and say it took a bit of adjusting too, but I really liked it. I felt the colours were right for me and I liked the combination of the top with my EF Harem Pants.

Accessorised with black 3D printed earring and a ring and trusty leather wrist wrap.

Anyway what do you think? Did I stray too far, or do you think this works?

Thanks so much for having a look.
xxx Deborah

I think the outfit is lovely--definitely you--and the abstract print complements the rest of your style.  Thank you for sharing photos!

  • JAileen replied 6 years ago

What a cool outfit! I think it looks perfect for a special event like a wedding.

  • Deborah replied 6 years ago

Thanks so much Emily and JAileen.  I am so attached to wearing black but sometimes I really do enjoy a little colour.  I have some other ideas for styling this piece, hopefully they work as well irl as they do in my head lol

  • karen13 replied 6 years ago

Perfection! The colors in the print are so good on you, the drape of the top is WOW, and the accessories couldn't be better. I so love your WIWs - they are always amazing.

  • Joy replied 6 years ago

It's fabulous! It's you! It's wedding festive! Big thumbs up.

  • Barbara Diane replied 6 years ago

I love it. So interesting and joyous and polished. You look great.

  • Kari replied 6 years ago

You wear those harems like they were made for you. I always love seeing them, but the pairing with the lovely, drapey watercolor blouse is probably my favorite.

  • Thea replied 6 years ago

Beautiful! I love seeing the EF Harems in action and how they can be matched for just about any occasion. The pop of color and pattern on you is a nice surprise - I think the sheerness of the top keeps it from overwhelming the outfit.

  • anne replied 6 years ago

    Totally works

  • Bijou replied 6 years ago

So gorgeous and totally appropriate for a wedding.  The pattern is an abstract floral, so it works with such a modern silhouette. I had to laugh at how it took time for you to get used to it, because to me this looks like a classic Deborah outfit, with the drape, harems and stunning pared back accessories.

  • rachylou replied 6 years ago

    Sweet!

  • Dianna replied 6 years ago

Perfect!  More color, but still your very unique style.

  • Adela replied 6 years ago

I love this! Different, and still very you.

  • Brooklyn replied 6 years ago

Absolutely works! The fact that it's oversized and asymmetric makes it very you. And the colours and pattern are a fab change up.

  • Lucy replied 6 years ago

    Gorgeous! Both new and you!

  • Column replied 6 years ago

You always work, Deborah. High drama, right proportions, and plenty of black!

  • replied 6 years ago

I really love this!!  After admitting that seeing you in color is a bit of a surprise, I still adore this whole ensemble.

Now I must step on my soap box.

    Weddings.

I don't know about weddings in your country, but this outfit seems perfect to me.  You are authentic to yourself and respectful of the wedding party. You wore pants!

In contrast, in my country, I am told I must wear a dress (and a fancy dress at that).  This rule is not written down but I absolutely assure you it is a rule.  I wear a fancy dress.  I am not authentic.  I am not comfortable and I can't wait to leave the wedding party.

Just this year, I resolved to wear pants to a wedding.  The police were not called.  The sky did not fall down.

Sorry if I hijacked your thread.  It is the word "wedding" that seems to set me off.

  • dakotacheryl replied 6 years ago

Fabulous and I'm sure very comfortable.

Sterling...where I live there is apparently zero dress codes for weddings or funerals...anything goes, from jeans to fancy dresses or suits...all in the same occasion. It is very disconcerting and I try to dress nicely for both.

  • Style Fan replied 6 years ago

As always Deborah you look elegant, edgy and avant guarde.  Harem pants are so perfect for your style.  The top is lovely with the pants.  Great accessories as well.

  • Jaime replied 6 years ago

The top looks smashing on you! Love the 3D printed earrings too.

  • unfrumped replied 6 years ago

    Oh, plonk.
I had no idea how these would be styled, but this is perfect. The colorful and gauzy floral hits the festive wedding mark. I love everything about the outfit. You absolutely must wear more color from time to time!

Love Sterling’s rant! I also have a new goal of building a “ wedding pants” capsule if possible. For me it’s more necessary for summer, seems odd, but due to things like my actual preference for host, no open toes, so summer legs and shoe comfort are harder. If I could find pieces that work for some “regular “ occasions like church and dinner out it could be worthwhile.

  • Momo replied 6 years ago

I love this Deborah. The color is lovely And with the cool silhouette it is just you.

  • Aquamarine replied 6 years ago

What a dramatic, interesting, and totally appropriate wedding outfit. Those harems are endlessly versatile, it seems. YLF!

  • Angie replied 6 years ago

    KILLER

  • replied 6 years ago

I agree with Angie. This is a beautiful choice for a wedding - pretty, celebratory, interesting, and lively.  All black would not have been as special. You nailed it here!

  • Julie replied 6 years ago

    You look amazing.

  • Keturah replied 6 years ago

Deb, your use of harem pants always leaves me going za-za-zing!!! I love following your style adventures <3

  • UmmLila (Lisa) replied 6 years ago

Gorgeous. I stand by my views that these pants function more as a skirt. They are quite versatile. I shall be wearing mine camping in a week in Wadi Rum, Jordan.

  • avicennia replied 6 years ago

Long time lurker here -- too shy to post much. But I have to say that I love your style in general Deborah, and this is a lovely new take for a special event. The outfit is polished and dynamic, just like you!

  • Deborah replied 6 years ago

Karen 13 thanks so much, I have to be honest and say I was struggling a little with the colour.

Joy and Barbara Dianne, thank you so much :)

Thanks Kari, the Harems are definitely one of my best investments.  They work so well with so many things and go anywhere :)

Thea, thank you and yes I agree the lovely chiffon fabric means is just lovely and light and not overwhelming.

    Anne, thank you lovely:)

Bijou, thank you and I am glad it looks like a 'me' outfit.  Funny but colour always throws me.  I love my black SO much.

Rachy, Dianna and Adela, thank you so much xx

Brooklyn, thanks so much.  Yes the shape and asymmetry made me feel reasonably confident but the colour was the big challenge ha ha silly really.

    Thanks lovely Lucy.

Lol Column you are right plenty of black and some drama.. which I love in my clothes (not my life lol)

Sterling, we should start a thread on wedding attire.  I would say the social norm here is definitely a lovely dress for a wedding.  I have NEVER felt right in the type of dresses that most women will wear to a wedding.  For some time I just compromised in order to 'fit in' but I am so over that in my life now.  If I do wear a dress now it's one of my drapey black numbers but I had this outfit in my mind and I saw the bride a week before the wedding and asked her if she minded me wearing pants and she told me to wear whatever I wanted.  I was inspired years ago by an older lady I know who wore a gorgeous almost tux like pant suit to a formal dinner event.  I was in a shocker of a dress (for me) that I had borrowed from a friend (long, a little flouncy, skin showing etc) and I felt so uncomfortable. I vowed I would never do that again.  I am happy to consider what is appropriate and respectful but I wouldn't ever compromise like that again.    Generally speaking tho, almost anything goes at weddings here.  The couple were quite young and many of their guests very young (compared to me lol) and there were lots of boho style long dresses, very short skimpy dresses, and rompers and a jump suit or two.

Thanks Cheryl :)  with your beautiful wardrobe, you would always look amazing no matter what you were attending.

  • The Cat replied 6 years ago

It looks very YOU. Dramatic, sophisticated, artistic and personal.

  • Deborah replied 6 years ago

Style Fan, thank you.  The Harems were a great investment.  I actually wanted them for a long time but the cost and then shipping just stretched my budget too much.  I picked them up on sale finally and with shipping ended up paying about AUD130. I was lucky as it seems hard to find a pair these days.

Shevia, thanks so much, Im loving the 3D printed jewellery, trying not amass too much of it lol

Unfrumped thanks so much.  And I will do my best re the colour.  I do like colour (a little and only some ha ha) but it is fun to change things up a bit.

    Momo, thanks so much.

Aquamarine, yes the harems are incredibly versatile.  I wear them everywhere.

Angie, thank you so much.  I know I am on the right track when an outfit get a Killer rating from you.

Lisa thanks so much.  It was a lovely outfit to wear, I felt very ethereal with all the flow and drape.

    Julie, thank you.

Keturah thanks so much lovely.   It is an adventure isn't it, and a fun one.

UmmLila, I agree the harems are so incredibly versatile, enjoy your camping. xx

Avicennia, well I feel privileged you delurked for me :)  Thank you so much for your kind words. xx

  • RobinF replied 6 years ago

I love this outfit! It looks totally appropriate for a wedding, very festive but in a good way. I do love those harems on you!

  • Ledonna N. replied 6 years ago

I think it's lightweight and airy still beautiful on you and and still speaks of who you are. I love the top is so gorgeous.

  • Elizabeth P replied 6 years ago

Ouch!  My head!  I haven't got my crash helmet on yet...

This is beyond awesome.  I love the outfit, I love that you are being true to you, I love that you had the courtesy to check in with the bride first... all of it.  That top is fantastic.  Would love more info on it... is there a link??

I wish my pants fit like this.  Mine are much shorter - I'm taller plus I think they shrunk a couple of inches in the wash.  Next time I was them I'm going to do everything in my power to stretch them, but the fabric is the type that goes all stiff when wet so I'm not sure how successful it will be.  Every time I put them on I wish they looked like yours do - I still wear them, they are fine, but I think I'd wear them more with more length.

  • amiable replied 6 years ago

This is stunning - as usual from you :)

  • Lyn D. replied 6 years ago

    You looked Fabulous Deborah!
    Where is the top from?
I hear you and others here about wearing dresses due to unwritten expectations, and even the convenience of not having to think too hard about putting together a more formal but true to self outfit.
    Great job!!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 6 years ago

This is a stunning wedding outfit, Deborah. I love the drama of the long side on the top, and this floral, being abstract, suits your style very well. Plus, you wear these colors well and I've seen you in them before, just not usually all at once, right? The delicate strapped sandals are the perfect dressy touch.

  • Deborah replied 6 years ago

Robin, thanks so much, I love my harems :)

Ledonna, thank you lovely. I really appreciate that.

Elizabeth, you are too kind:)  And yes I am only 5ft2 and I purchased the Small/Regular in the harems.  I think you could possibly stretch them out when they are wet, won't hurt to try, but I do love how yours sit on you.
Here's the link for the top. Full disclosure, I wear quite a bit of her clothing and I do know her and also do some work for her so I am totally biased but I genuinely adore her designs.  She makes clothes for grown ups:)  Here's the link:  https://www.lulumanna.com.au/c.....-fling-top  Her prices are not crazy but they are not cheap, but given the quality of the fabrics, the workmanship and they are made ethically in Australia I think they are well worth the price tag.  From the Spring range I also have the On The Fields Dress and the Emerge Pant in Black.  Very timeless designs.

Amy you are lovely thank you xx

Thanks so much Lyn :)  Here is the link for you https://www.lulumanna.com.au/c.....-fling-top  beautiful Sydney based independent designer.. see my comments to Elizabeth above.  The designs are all just gorgeous.

Firecracker, yes you are right they are colours I have worn before but putting them all together was a bit scary ha ha.  I tried a few different pairs of shoes but the simple sandal seemed the best.  I have the same sandal in cobalt blue but decided it was too 'matchy matchy' for me :)

The Cat, thank you, I love the words you use, I think they must be my style descriptors xxx

  • lyn67 replied 6 years ago

Wow, that top is a great print and COLOR3 perfect with the harems-and so, makes for a dramatic look you are wearing so very well, killer stunning for the 3D jewelry, too! A real inspiration!

  • Jenni NZ replied 6 years ago

Well I also think you look amazing. I had not realised you're 5 foot 2, that is only just taller than me. You must be very good at the proportions so that you appear taller?
My only disappointment here is that you didn't wear the duplicate sapphire blue dress you talked about wearing, earlier? Because I loved that one EVEN more.

  • citygirldc replied 6 years ago

You are only 5 foot 2?  You look so tall in my eyes and I'm 5 foot 1.  Anyway, as one who loves black, your chic outfits are always amazing to me and once in a while a little color or print changes up the whole look.

  • Marilyn replied 6 years ago

I've said this before, Deborah, but you have the most amazing style.  It's quite different from what I wear but I so love it.  As a fellow petite, I'm always amazed by what you can pull off and I find it inspirational.

On to the outfit.....Fab as always.  I share your love for black but you do bits of colour and print very well.  The black grounds it and keeps the  look chic.

    Fantastic jewelry!

  • TraceyLiz65 replied 6 years ago

Every time you push just a bit outside your comfort zone, you do a fabulous job of still Rocking your style and I would recognize you immediately!  Love it!

  • DonnaF replied 6 years ago

Gorgeous! I understand what you mean about wearing color, but I wish I had a beautiful top like that to wear with my harems since I'm going to a wedding on Saturday. My only dressy top that will work with the harems is black. Not festive. So I will be wearing my jacquard sheath dress that gets trotted out every year or two for such occasions.
