Complex

Hi Ladies,

Had fun styling this dress for church this morning.

I think I might prefer a skinny jean, or thick leggings rather than the opaque tights but will give that a try next time.  I am aware that this will probably not be everyone's cup of tea but I was happy with it.  The dress is oversized and I can see I will have to be careful with overall proportions here (it can in fact be worn two ways that create very different looks)

The dress is sleeveless so should work across all seasons with the right layering.

dress : complexgeometries
long tail cardigan : luka
booties : hush puppies
necklace : equip

Thanks for looking and of course styling suggestions welcome.

xxx Deborah

    I love this, a great look :)

    Perfect for you!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Ah! Is this a different Complex Geometries, or "the one"? Very dramatic looking with the long cardi! And you are getting a lot of wear from your booties. :-)

  • kkards replied 10 years ago

    love this look, very dramatic

  • annaj replied 10 years ago

The dress is fabulous!! Looks great with opaques, and I love that we get to see your pins!! No need to hide them away in jeans/trousers/leggings!

  • Ingunn replied 10 years ago

It is very you, and thus very fab! You do this so well. I like the tights with it.

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

I love the silhouettes of these layers, Debs! They work perfectly for your style persona - and the lengths are flattering too! Gorgeously arty, theatrical, and elegant! I do find the look extremely black - but I know that's what makes you happy right now, and I so want you to be happy.

I am trying VERY hard not to let the all black thing influence my judgements and trigger my potential poison eye (it is potential - not complete poison eye) for all black outfits. Please bear with me, and you must continue to have fun with fashion!!! xo

I think the tights look great with the outfit.  Seeing the shape of your legs helps keep the volume on top from overwhelming the outfit.

  • ironkurtin replied 10 years ago

    All black is the bomb.

  • Momo replied 10 years ago

    Love it!

Love the portrait collar, and the way it works with your necklace to frame your face.  You hair looks particularly good this morning.  The color seems a bit warmer.  Is this just the photo, or perhaps the result of a little less Summer sun?  It's always stunning of course, but the color I see on my monitor is blond perfection!

  • carolbee replied 10 years ago

Ah, so this is a complex geometrics dress. It looks fab, love it with the tights but no doubt will look equally as fab with leggings and skinny jeans.

  • pil replied 10 years ago

Dramatic and subtle at the same time. This is gorgeous on you!

  • Sona replied 10 years ago

Deborah: I know Angie has mentioned this before but I really would love to see you experiment with more color. So many of us came to YLF in mostly black as our predominant colors and have changed quite  a bit. You look sensational as always but my plea is for some colored bottoms which would show off your sexy legs and up the ante so to speak. I hope you don't mind my frank speaking.

I am always amazed at how well you do a bit of volume Deborah, but you never let it overwhelm you. I think the shorter dress must help provide some structure. Even though you're not showing "skin" (because of the tights) seeing that bit of leg helps. I love the long cardigan and its collar. Very dramatic and cool!

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

Oh yes, Debs! I forgot to mention that your hair looks particularly fab today! Thanks for reminding me, Beth Ann.

  • christy replied 10 years ago

Deborah, I adore this and think you look quite dramatic and elegant. I've always had a soft spot for all black outfits and this feels particularly sophisticated and stylish. I think the draping and layers keep it from being too stark IMO. YLF!

Love this despite my poison eye for all black.  I love the drama the collar of the sweater creates and think that interst makes the all black work wonderfully!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

    Arty, dramatic, stylish, flattering...

  • Parsley replied 10 years ago

You look gorgeous and dramatic, Deborah!
    I love the drapey layers.

  • Kari replied 10 years ago

I love the richness and drama of those layers, especially the portrait collar. The complexity is what makes it look arty and interesting to me, and keeping it all black allows you to play with compex layers without looking like "too much" as it might in a high contrast color combo with the same pieces.

LOVE how your hair is looking here. Utterly fab.

  • lyn67 replied 10 years ago

Wow, I waited for this post, thank you! Glorious outfit, always love all black on you Deb, cuz there are always some special silouettes,  textures and drapes which beat all the colours in the world! I die to see the other incarnation and the dress on itself alone, too-for learning how one can do make that raw(complex:-))geometric shapes and cuts work so well on a real woman in a real life!

  • bj1111 replied 10 years ago

Well, you already know what i'm goingto say, right?

Any chance we could see you put the dress thru its different drapes without the cardi?

  • Hil replied 10 years ago

    So fabulous!!! That is all!

  • jurocha replied 10 years ago

Superb! I hope this outfit scores high on your happiness scale; though I know it's silly I can't help but feel all warm and fuzzy when I read "Hush puppies" (boots). I never associated the brand with square shoes, as I got to know them after their "recent revamp" (and the Hush puppies shoe-sneakers I own are so very comfortable that I can't picture you *not* feeling super happy while sporting shoes from the brand).

  • CocoLion replied 10 years ago

I love this!  It reflects an aspirational (imaginary?) style persona of mine, if I could pull off all black, and had a dressier lifestyle.  Your light hair, even complexion, intense eyes and lips work extremely well with black.  It tends to drag down my appearance; I really do look best in pastels or bright colors.  Yet in my heart I totally relate to this all-black, dramatic style persona.  It screams style, creativity, taste and self-confidence.  I guess I just have to work on having it come out in other ways.  :-)

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

You look amazing! This is dramatic elegant eclectic and your beautiful hair is the star.

  • Nicole D replied 10 years ago

You look like a fashion magazine editor - in the best way!  Love your hair and it contrasts nicely with the black.

  • Caro in Oz replied 10 years ago

So glad the CG works for you :) What is the quality like?

You know I love this look & you also know I too struggle with all black.  Having said that I love the proportions here.

  • Lyn D. replied 10 years ago

Well, I too have been anxiously waiting to see this dress- and I am disappointed!!!
Disappointed that we couldn't see it by itself and worn the other way :)
Absolutely my favourite all-black outfit of yours so far!
    Absolutely stunning too.

  • Janet replied 10 years ago

I love this! You wear black ensembles so well! No need to change a thing.

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

My goodness, you have just blessed my sock off this morning.  I had actually braced myself as I really wasn't expecting everyone to like this :)  But I am so touched that you 'get' that this is very  'me'.

bj, I will definitely do a post showing how it can be worn.  I will try to get to that this week.  Master 10 loves the hooded version lol...

Caro, i purchased this off ebay and it is second hand.  I would say the quality is excellent.  It is cotton and is really like a quality tshirt fabric (thicker and falls and drapes better).  The dress is in one piece, no seams!  I am utterly fascinated by the construction.  And the hood is not part of the neckline at all.  It is so clever!  They also produce some items in Navy, grey, dusk, white and I am saving to buy new the Junction Dress in Navy.

Lyn you are funny:)  I will post the variations soon.

Sona, I always appreciate honest feedback and I appreciate yours so much.  My challenge is that I don't feel like me in colour.  I have embraced red, cobalt,  a touch of green, and orange/coral but othewise it's neutrals that make my heart sing.  Having said that I have an intentional plan to work on my accessories to light up my black.

Angie, you are an angel.  I appreciate you so much.

  • amiable replied 10 years ago

You look stunning in this!  I love love love all the different shapes and layers!

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

I suppose this might be a good time to let you know I have another CG piece I am expecting to be delivered today!!

  • annagybe replied 10 years ago

    Um, wow! You look fantastic!

  • Lantana replied 10 years ago

Deborah, I adore this on you. Somehow your blondeness prevents the black from dragging. That collar is divine. Sigh.
