Black Oversized Dress Alteration

Hi Ladies,

It might be difficult to see the difference but my new dress here http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ized-dress has been worn twice and both times I felt it was too oversized. Took it to my lady who has taken the dress in. It still looks oversized but I think it has a nice slimmer line and not so much fabric in the front now. I am hoping this now reads as intentionally oversized where before I think it just looked too big.

If you have time it would great if you could take a look and let me know if you think this is better. I am really looking forward to getting this into regular rotation but I want it to be right.

Thanks so much.

#1 is the altered version. (Popped it on over my jeans and the closest pair of heels:) ) This is not how I will wear it.

xxxDeborah

I think the alteration looks great, definitely more streamlined-oversized.

I missed the original post :( I like it both ways Deborah - but I know what you mean I don't like the feeling of too much extra fabric either.

I see the subtle difference and think it looks even better altered.

Deborah - both sets of pics look great to me.  But you picture today shows such an elegance of line.  Always hard to see this is a photo but I think the alterations look perfect and make the dress even more refined!  That's the problem there is such a sweet spot with this type of item but it looks like you totally found it!!  Lucky girl to have a good seamstress!! No happy with my tailor and on the hunt for someone new.  Sigh!!

Thanks ladies. The alteration has taken some of the fullness from the front. Standing still it looked fine but in movement it looked very tent-ish. Now there is more consistency in how the dress falls and looks. It may need one further small tweak but need to give it a good press to double check how the altered seams sit.

Gryffin, I think my lady actually enjoys my alterations. She says I bring unusual items in to her and she is often surprised at how good something looks after my requested tweaking:). She does a great job and she is not too expensive.

Well, it looks similar but IKWYM about front-on pics not telling the full story about extra fabric.
You will now feel so much better wearing this, and that is worth a little tweeking for sure!
I hope you have a wonderful time at the wedding this weekend (?) and look forward to your pics :)

I think it drapes a little better.

I think it was a great decision to have it altered. It definitely looks intentional now and not just accidentally/carelessly too big. And I know what you mean about moving changing the way something fits. It sometimes takes motion to appreciate an item, too. But this was a good call and a great result!

It looks great to me, Deborah.  Not too oversized.  I haven't seen it before alterations though.  Can you post the pre-altered pic as well?

It looks great with the alteration and more importantly, it sounds like it feels better to you.

Looks good! Those shoes are FAB!

I liked it before this alteration, but as a fan of avante garde, volume, and unusual shillhouettes I know what you mean about finding that fine line that puts an interesting garment into regular rotation. You look fabulous in the slightly slimmed version here. I like it with the jeans. I'd wear this dress over cropped straight leg or wide leg bottoms and any of your marvelous collection of booties, as well as the more expected skinnies or leggings.

Although its difficult to tell from the photos how its been altered, the new version is certainly fab, and it sounds as though you will be much happier wearing it this way.
